Go rewatch the fight. Dustin had Justin in the first round but the other rounds Justin was getting the better of the exchanges. The leg kicks was a big factor for Justin but was also his downfall. Dustin was countering a few of the leg kicks. His timing was perfect when he rocked Justin. Justin could've won that match but his coach told him to focus on the leg kicks going into that last round. Which wasn't necessary at that point. Dustin leg was already compromised. The coach should have noticed how well Dustin was countering.

I'm surprised you didn't mention the "altitude advantage" for Justin. Being as he trains in high elevation (in Colorado) and the event is in Utah (vs Poirier training in Florida), I think this will be a non-negligible aspect to the fight.

I'm way more excited to watch this one than the last, bc it's two guys who are much closer to being matched in their skill levels and where they are in relation to reaching their prime potential (over the course of their careers.)
As much as we all love Diaz, I felt like he had already reached his peak and had started to go over the other side, while Masvidal was just coming into his. They weren't in the same place on the timeline, and that made it feel like the winner was a much more obvious choice before that first bmf bout.

I got poirier. I think his selective striking is gonna be a huge factor. His ability to stay calm and defensive with his back against the cage is also gonna help when Justin tries to brawl. But most importantly, I think he'll be able to nullify Justin's leg kicks with good checks.

People are so quick to jump on Poirier’s lacklustre second round against Chandler but fail to point out Gaethje’s worst performance of his career against Charles. He got dropped by a submission artist and choked within the first 5 minutes whereas Poirier gave Charles a run for his money. Gaethje may have evolved a bit but that’s about it. Just because he used a few jabs in the 3rd round against a gassed, not-so-experienced, and up and coming fighter, people overlook his Charles fight. However, I do like how they underplay Poirier’s skills. I want them to count him out so that he can prove them all wrong!
