@@rogerlapin9809 nice I like it and I love the V600 too. Maybe see if any of your friend and family would like to start their photo digitisation project and borrow your scanner! Everyone always have a ton of photos that they plan to scan... at some point!
Yes it is a great and really affordable option for all, if you clean it you are onto a winner. Balancing the need to clean with the speed of the scanner for me it is a no brainer!
Thank you so much for your reviews and insight. I’m a novice just trying to do right by my family. After watching your reviews I felt comfortable purchasing the FF-680w to archive over 3,700 old family photos and glad I’m did. Your tips saved me so much time and effort. Fortunately my flat bed scanner on my Epson printer also does photos so now I have the best of both worlds to handle all of my photo scanning needs.
Great video! I’m new to photo scanning (just bought an Epson FF680 to scan my late fathers photos and others I have) and this is exactly the kind of information I was looking for, thank you!
Thanks for a really great video on the product! Is there a way to get the software to automatically detect and rotate portrait images for you or is that all manual?
@@ansnfbsknanssshshbsnsndnd5438 found it at my local goodwill it was in the original box and inside the box was actually another scanner brand new as well
I have been owned one of these since 2019 but noticed the carrier sheets (I have replaced them over the years) now get a streak from the roller within no time from 1-2 scans. I scan all my greeting cards I receive every Christmas and run the cards through the scanner with the carrier sheets and the ScanSmart utility to scan to pdf. I perform the roller and glass cleaning everytime I use the scanner but even Epson could not provide an answer, only to send it in to a local authorized repair facility. No! LOL. it seems like the rollers are pulling in too hard perhaps. Just my opinion. Not a way to tell the unit to not pull in and scan a little more gently. I could use my Flatbed all in one printer to do this, but the 2 sided scanning feature is so useful on the Fastfoto. Any ideas?
I’ve done up to 30 photos at once before reloading. Can probably do more. And since documents are on thinner paper you should be able to scan much more each time before reloading the document feeder..
@@karagi101yes that is about how many I would say to do in a batch ad well. Thanks for the input. 😊 Officially it says 100 as a batch but I find it skips photos if I do that!
On this scanner the largest you can do is A4 due to the feed area. For larger prints, you will need a flatbed scanner, but you don't necessarily need an A3 scanner as you can stitch scans together in a programme like Photoshop. 🙂
Hello, re; FastFoto dating feature, Q1; can you edit photo date after it has been scanned ? I have literally thousands of photos in numerous albums, with most albums spanning multiple years & events. I would like to batch scan the photos per album (maybe 10 or 20 at a time) and go back to each photo and edit the date. Will the software allow me to do this ? Q2. Along the same line of thinking, the photo digitizing project/task may be divided bt siblings, some who only scan, some who would 'at a later date' take care of dating and naming each photo, .. will the software allow this 'back editing' ?
The Epson FastFoto Software won't let you change the dates afterwards but there are some programmes that can, check out Adobe Bridge, ua-cam.com/video/QkW1ozwuVxU/v-deo.html, A Better Finder Attributes, ua-cam.com/video/QkW1ozwuVxU/v-deo.html, or these options for your PC, ua-cam.com/video/WmrnRGjFhiM/v-deo.html For sharing with others to get their info, you will need to load the scans to a cloud service to share. 😊
If you use the Espon FF software and select a date in the pre-scanning pop-up then yes it will put that date in the Capture date in the Exif tags. Which is pretty cool! 😁
The biggest difference between the 2 is the connection, the 680 can connect via Wifi and the 640 is cables. Also the 680 can auto rotate the images, although that is not always perfect. The quality of the scans is pretty much the same, but some of the enhancement can produce different outputs like the colour restoration on the 640 can be warmer and the 680 is more vibrant. 😁
Is it possible to use the FastFoto FF 680W scanner on 2 PCs? I've been scanning old family photos to my laptop. My wife is now ready to start a similar project with HER family's old photos. She will want to save them to her own laptop with her own preferred file structure. How can we do that?
Yes absolutely, either they need to all be on the same wifi connection, or use the cable they gave you to connected via USB to make sure it is easy to connect!😊
Ok. so my question is. and Im guessing "yes" but you almost need to get two scanners. the fast photo to get through all 5 million family shots and then a flat bed for Super special images and negatives. I don't think I could do all photos in a flatbed. I would probably give up. but I do need to scan negatives and slides here and there. What do you think and recommend.
So as you have worked out, unless you have a lot of patience you are going to need something different for your negatives. You can get fast compact Negative and Slide scanners, like the Kodak Slide N Scan but they won't give as higher a resolution as the flatbed. Choices choices.😊
Clean and clean again is the first port of call. Also I have found that if I feed the photos in a different orientation, so portrait and not landscape the lines can be reduced as they can be on the surface of the photos. 😁

Yes there is a setting in the Epson FF software, go to advanced area and select to auto rotate. It is not exactly perfect but better than nothing 😊
Thanks. Really useful guide. Nice style too. 😊
I am glad you enjoyed it.. and let me know any other topics you would love me to cover! Happy Scanning!😁

Just one question. Does this cut off any of the edges of the pictures? I’ve tried 2 flatbed scanners and each one cuts off edges. I just bought a 3rd.
It does a pretty decent job of not cutting of the edges, in fact sometimes it get confused and adds an edge! 😊
whats the biggest photo you can scan and any advice as im looking to scan a3 down to 7 x 5 inch standard

you also do camera scannin for large photos or documents that are over size

Sometimes you can get a good deal if you hunt around, but the few hundred is a comparison to the few thousand for some of the scanners out there. 😁
