- When their lab got hurt on a hike, this family had to carry him back for four miles!
Kai's mom told us what she wish she'd known before taking him on this hike with her.

My dog got injured on a walk once, fully gashed his leg open right up a hill, and i had another one too to sort out. I was panicking and trying to lift the dog and a couple who were walking came and helped, complete strangers but the bloke carried my dog back to my car so i could go to the vets. An absolute saviour 🙏
there is hope for humanity yet, I am happy for you and your dog that these people walked around.. :)
DAMNED TOXIC MALES how dare they help like that 😉
Makes one believe in humanity and kindness to animals!!! Great post to uplift!

This is why you pack a first aid kit for human and pets. I carry shoes and socks for them. On a 12 mile hike one of my 5 dogs always gets a raw paw pad from running on sticks and such.
There is an amazing product called Ruff Rescue. It’s a sling. A couple of years ago we were on a hike and our full size 2 yr old doodle was bit by a rattle snake. We could see the road above us, we are in our late sixties at the time and both in good shape. I ran back to get the truck and my husband struggled to carry Otis to the road. All worked out well but we realized that had we been on one of our back country hikes it would have been super difficult to carry either of our full sized doodles out. Both my husband and I could carry our dogs in this sling. It can be worn on our back or chest. It folds very small and is light and easy to carry in a small backpack.
@@karenthompson1337 I've seen those, but i haven't bought one yet. I'll have to get one soon and add it to my first aid kit.
🙏
Exellent advice, thank you ❤
I dont know any labs that would walk after a ripped paw especially in boots or a bandage 😢
You have to carry them
I’ve seen this story before and right afterwards I got an emergency sling. My boy and I hike a whole lot.
Highly recommend getting a military dog harness for this reason
i have heard way too many horror stories during hikings that i will never take my pet on a hike too far from home.also bless this lil doggo💖 and family.
This!
i would take my pet on a hike anywhere
Bless you for helping your beautiful best friend❤
Pets dont belong on hikes. Just walks.
Ya, lets not live life to the fullest because something bad might happen!
Ive heard a lot of animals get hurt outside. I keep my pets in safe, padded cages. 😅
Pet Companies make paw pads that are made like shoes for our pup's. They work well a lot of hunter's use them on their dog's in the field. They're not that expensive and they work really well to protect there feet and pads. Ive used them before, it just takes a little while for them to get use to wearing them. It is actually pretty hilarious to watch the pup's get use to them. They do alot of high stepping and the actual clumsiness at first will bring a smile to your face every time. I would recommend them to anyone that takes the dog's hiking in the wild, they are worth it!
Hi James came here to say this. So many wonderful products for animals now. There’s almost no excuse to not keep them safe. Take care
Amen 🙌🏼
Hey thanks for sharing
👏 👏 👏 💯 .
Good to know. Thanks for the info!🙏🏻😎👍🏻🫡💯

I have something like this too!! But it’s more of a backpack, harness kinda thing instead of a sling. It’s amazing. I’m a 5’1 small woman, and my dog is just under 100 pounds. He is a big malamute. We do tons of hikes in the middle of nowhere, and he did get hurt one time… not bad enough he couldn’t walk, but it made me think like oh if he did get injured we would be screwed. With the backpack thing, I can carry him… barely lmao hahaha. He’s heavy as hell. But at least I can get him out even though it’s a hell of a workout.
If you take backpacks, you could have both pet and human first aid items with you as well as water.
I trained therapy dogs as well as family dogs and the backpacks are part of my training methods. They are a great idea not only for carrying important items like you mentioned, but as a routine to training putting a mindset into the dog and goes towards specific purposes. They actually become proud of themselves when wearing the backpack when you go to take something out that you both use like water. It's' heartwarming to me when they get to that part, it's like when I take a therapy dog to a nursing home and they help an elderly person with something, the dogs just lap up the praise from them and almost seem to smile somehow. 😊
Good advice 👍
Loved your story. Just a FYI, they do make boots/covering for all sizes of dog paws. I used to hike and I had them for my dog. Hope this helps
Leave no man... uh... friend behind.

Ohana means family. Family means nobody gets left behind or forgotten. Dogs are Ohana.
Yes I have a small dog but even when we go on hikes I bring a sling or something I can carry him in just in case. I had to carry him once in the middle of the summer & it was brutal b/c I have carpal tunnel as well.
VIT B6 carpal👍
Paw boots🐾 never heard of the sling, but sounds good. Glad he's ok 😊
People... PLEASE put boots on your pets for hikes. They are walking on rocky/harsh terrain (for paws) and can just tear up their paw pads. Also, keep a first aid kit with you (human & dog-safe supplies). Glad this doggo's owner had help to carry the dog.
yeah I hike alone a lot and this is what i do because its easier. I use the ruffwear trail shoes. I don't have to worry about paw cuts or scraps and the odd thorn in paw. And just in case, I just ordered the ruffwear evac sling kit.
No
😂😂😂 The idiot >>@@ctaiwan speaks. Smh
Doggie shoes are the best and should be worn on rough or hot terrain. Their paws get hurt from the elements, as well as 😀
My son hikes by himself with his dogs. One of them is a great pyrenees. I bought him a GPS tracker. Best purchase I have made for one of my kids. If there's any time that he is hurt or one of the dogs are hurt and he's out of cell service area he can signal and be located😊
Très bonne idée 👍🏻

Poor excuse for dog parenting please give your dogs away to a loving family
@@theoriginalCoCoSmith What are you talking about? The tracker is for my son to carry while he's hiking in case a medical emergency happens with him or his dogs and he is outside of cell range 🙄 It's to be able to locate him. Not the dogs.
@@girlcheckyou’re right they don’t know what they are talking about lol. Great idea for your son and dogs!
He’s got a good family.❤ although his waist is thick,he’s trying the log jump. Lucky 🐕 🤗
Poor baby. 🙁 God bless all 3 of you for your caring kindness. I'm so glad Kai has healed and that it wasn't something more serious. I'm also glad your dad and your brother were there to help carry Kai. ❤
You have a beautiful chocolate lab. Thank you for taking such great care of him while he was recovering. You did an awesome job caring for the lab while he was recovering. 😊❤❤😊.
Such a beautiful dog, with a very caring family! Our dogs are family with unconditional love, I’ve had dogs my entire life and would do the same for my fur babies. Kudos to the family ❤❤
Glad your dog is doing well ❤️🩹❤❤
He's family and he will never abandon you too. It is very beautiful to see the way you all cared about him. He's adorable a big baby. 😊❤
A lot of people forget that they are taking a house pet out there. Their paws are not used to being out there for such long hikes, just think about how bad a condition your bare feet would be in walking around out there.
Thank you for carrying him n taking good care of him.Always have first side for pet also with you. God bless
Poor Pup, hope he's going to be alright.❤️🐕🦺🐾
Glad that the incident didn't turn out to be super bad and super happy that the dog recovered quickly ❤ ❤
Thank you for treating your dog like Family!💕
She said be prepared as she was not
Thank you for helping
That shot of her laying on the rocks is awesome. It totally looks like Kai threw her off a cliff. Just admiring his wicked handiwork, 'doot ti doo, look at this! Isn't it great?!'
Labs are wonderful 😊
Yup, you're right. Sounds like the man above was looking out for you all. Happy to hear Kai is better.❤❤❤❤❤
Remember everyone, don't workout to look good workout to protect and care for the ones you love.
Exactly!👍 Foul story, "regular hikes", obese dog - such a bs story! 🙄
Invest in and carry a dog rescue sling with you on hikes... They weigh next to nothing, and make carrying a sick or injured dog out with you so much easier 👍
Never heard of sling for dogs. But it sound awesome and logical for both them & us parents. 👍👍
Sweet dog, good owners!
Well now they make shoes for dogs. This might prevent a reoccurrence.
It's not that easy, some dogs don't really like shoes. I have some to protect injuries (if needed) but they don't stay on if my dog if he moves a lot. They work well inside but on walks they slip very easily...
When your Dog is hurt, and you have to figure out how to help him, it can be taxing. These are Good Good Dog Parents
Love 💕 those good Dog 🐶 Parents.
Thank God he is OK ❤
Yep ! Pack a first aid kit - you can buy them from any hunting dog magazine or at a Cabella's Sporting or ProBass shop
세상의모든복 다 받으십시요..언제나 응원하겠습니다..
God bless you. We had to carry my dog down one time too. ❤❤️🙏
Get him hiking boots
It's not safe on slippery surfaces. My dog almost slipped off the snow covered slope with boots.
@@sunshine_pnw the boots would be suitable on rough terrain like the ones shown here.
Any boots would slip on snow.
Thank you for helping your Dog and not leaving him behind. ❤❤❤. He is so sweet
Dad and brothers are HEROS!!❤
Aww poor bebi 😢
Seeing a lot of people recomending shoes but also leashing your dog, keeping them on the trail, and keeping an eye out for sharps is important/helpful
It's so good to see your dog was cooperative.
Glad to hear your dog is fine!❤️
Our nephew’s dog had somehow broke his toenail vertically. It had gone down pretty far so my husband took him n his dog to the vet to get him fixed up. No clue how it happened but it took a bit for him to heal. Glad you were paying attention n helped him when he needed it. 🙏🏻💖
Poor baby. Thank God for your brother. ❤❤❤❤
oh he was chubby too !! you could see the love in the dogs eyes sitting beside your brother ... thumbs up for the love and care for pet family members.
I'm so happy you were given the strength to carry him, I know when you love your pets we all will do what it takes and you gave great advice, thank you for sharing and happy you're baby is doing great.
You're a good dog, mom. You took care of him like you. Would a sibling or child that Says a lot about who you are ❤
Thank u for not leaving da pup ❤❤❤
Tadinho ele até estava com olhos tristes, devia estar com dores tadinho, boa família que levou ele de forma a que não piorasse a lesão 😃👏👌🙏💯🇵🇹
Poor Kai!! His family, jumped into action!! And got him help ON THEIR OWN!! They did the RIGHT THING For Him!! What a BRAVE FAMILY!! Thank You!!❤😊
Thank you for the quick response ❤❤❤
Of the infinite number of "things I love about dogs" their ability to move on after a setback is very near the top. One of our pups had to have his gall bladder out and the vet said we may lose him. She was only preparing us for what might be, but said she would do all she could. He came through the surgery well, and when he got back here to his farm, you couldn't see him for dust! If you or I had undergone a major surgery, we would naturally take it easy for a couple of days when we first got home from the hospital. Dogs don't think that way. Yesterday I was sick, today I feel better. Let's run!
I am glad your pup is better and back to having fun. Stay safe everyone!
Another great reason to keep your pet on a healthy weight: lighter to carry 😊
We lived in a neighborhood next to a college that had college housing, some woods, and a creek. It was a time when the neighbors let their dogs run loose. Our Golden came home with a cut paw. We did what we could for it. Any bandage we did came off. We soon learned she would go down to the creek and put it in the mud and made a mud pack on it. Over time it heal.
He seems to enjoy his ride on the shoulders 😊
Someone once told me they exercise so they can lift their family members if there's an emergency. His dad had a heart attack on a trail and he carried him out of there. Top knotch fella!
Your dad and brother are heroes ❤
Wow, so glad you all made it out safely n your poor brother, Bless him. So glad your Dad for carrying your pooch. Pet parent is beautifully stated. Bless all 4 of you! Peace be with us all 🙏. "Isa"
This fur baby is loved and I love that ❤❤❤❤
Wonderful dog, glad you saved him.❤️
It’s easy to do the right thing for those you love ❤️. 👍☮️🌞🐾🥾
The love that you have for your pet is precious 💞💕
That wasto much hiking for a dog that heavy in my opinion but thankyou parents for carrying him down
In a pinch find two strong poles zip up two jackets and slide poles through. If poles fit run through sleeves as well. You have to overlap the jackets. Easy to carry anyone where needed.
I learned with our English Mastiff to only walk as far as I could carry him home. We started taking a wagon so when he was done he could climb in and keep going. He usually would get out when he saw the house and his walk of shame was only 50 yards.
Thank god you were not alone when this happened. I am glad Kai is better. 🤗
Airlift Fido Pro. Turns your dog into a backpack. It is essentially an emergency harness that fits in a small pouch. Worth every penny!
Highly recommend pet parents of large dogs to purchase those emergency slings if you go for long hikes like these owners. They are well worth it.
Way to go carying him down the mountain brother! Great job!! So glad pup healed quickly!♥️
Your dog is so cute . It's very sweet you carried him down the mountain.
The dog demands Carry me peasant !!!
Well done everyone ❤️🙏💯🇬🇧🌟🌟🌟🐕
Just look at that beautiful trail❤
*Tell someone where you’re going & expect to return.*
And always carry an emergency kit. Especially if you drift from the main trails. Wound care, water purifier, emergency blanket, tarp, crank charger/flashlight/alarm, fire steel & sleeping mat. Nuts, bars, beef jerky. All are light to carry. Can save lives.
Guys remember always be strong enough to carry a person a few miles
Great Job Family - You Got It Done By Working Together....
I love that u said ‘pet parent’ sounds so much more loving & family than owner or the like.
❤❤❤❤❤ thank you for being as ready as you could be for your Doggo’s rescue. We can’t plan such things exactly, but we can prepare ourselves to adapt and manage ❤❤❤ thank Goodness it all worked out for you guys!!!
God bless you & your dad & brother for carrying you beautiful boy to safety ❤
Aw poor boy. So proud of you for being strong cause I can imagine just how sore tearing your paw would feel cause I was walking boy and he tore his paw and he couldn't fully stand on it for half a week. Took just over 13 days for it to heal and for him to be back running around after me lol
Like human kids, the unexpected hits you in the worst places!!😮
Glad you both had help ❤❤❤❤
Im glad your baby is ok..i lost mine..he was a chow and shepherd mix..he stepped on a piece of glass and cut the main artery in his foot..i tried to wrap it up to stop the bleeding while taking him to the vet but it didn't help.. even surgery didn't save him.... this happened in my own back yard in our new apartment..
😢 A true nightmare of mine. I am so sorry!
I live in a very rural area, but our house was built on property that was once a bar and a restaurant.8 out of 10 times I cant go 4inches in the ground without hitting upon brick or glass pieces. Not to mention that plus everything else that one might find in a burn pit from burning trash! I worry about our animals getting hurt all the time and do what i can to keep it picked up. But I consider ourselves as being very lucky that nothing bad has occurred yet.
Smart dog 🐕 staying with her bos ad waiting for helping amazing friends lovely fog ❤❤❤❤❤good jobs fog very loyalty ❤❤❤god bless you
Fun fact about this video. IPOS lives in an very expensive city. If he moved 30 minutes away, he'd be able to pay his rent on time no problem. Every one of his recent woes are self-inflicted.
Thank you for posting this. Such good information. I’ve been a hiker since 1970s. It’s possible to carry a medium size dog out, but probably not a large dog or a person. For long hikes in more remote areas, you need to have enough people on the hike to send a couple of people to get help and someone to stay with the injured pet or person, plus extra water because of the extra time for the rescue.
Thank you for the advice. Your right. BE PREPARED especially with a special member of the family❤❤❤❤
Beautiful doggo! ❤❤❤
Great pet parents! Love this!!❤ Dad and Bro are total heroes!!!!
I’m so glad u had help carrying your big lab down the mountain. Sounds like doggie boots would be worth while for your dog for hiking!❤❤ glad he’s ok now!
Thanks so
much for sharing your learning experience with all of us! Our pets are family members who most of us would want to return home safely, so we need to be prepared for what could happen! ‘Good news your pup got home & is healed!
I had the same thing happen to me but our dog just limped back to the car because he has four legs. We weren't super far away but we rested whenever we felt we had to just to make it easier on him. No problems.
Nothing like making a hike more challenging. 😂
You can make a couple of emergency booties that have built up very soft padding in the bottom of them. You can take a pair of pet snow booties and line the soul's with gauze and cotton to make it soft. Make sure they fit fairly tight around the leg . Also make a hard protected surface to place under paw to walk on, on the outside of boot. You can use a big table spoon . You put a 90° bend to make the bottom side of spoon as the part touching ground and spoon handle is placed on the back of his leg with spoon under foot facing forward. Toss a small roll of duct tape in your pack to tape top of boot, and bent spoon handle to the leg...
So when it's done correctly you have a spoon then heavily cotton padded boot slipped over injured paw and up the leg. Taped in place.
He will get used to it in a few minutes. At least you don't have to carry him. .
God Bless you Precious Baby Puppy dog Love you baby 💘🐕💘💖💖💖💖💖💖💋
Always best to hike WITH someone as well!
Great family team work!
Amazing man to carry his dog. I commend you and thank you for the tip to be always be careful. I hope your dog is better and walking better now.
