Polaris should scale up their 850 patriot turbo sled engine to like 850 CID per cyl for tugboats, Rotax 850 or Arctic cats 858! I worked on boats that had 16-645 which burn about 10 gallons of 2 stroke 40w every few days now that’s like some insane oil injection!
Diesels are going to be around for a long, long time. The trend right now is high horsepower, constant speed operation driving hydraulic pumps or electrical generators. Maximum efficiency and fuel economy are the driving forces...The thing about batteries is energy density. Pound for pound diesel fuel is more energy-rich.
LMAO 🤣🤣 You really live in a dream world. Check the voltage and amperage needed to run a traction motor. It requires 400 volts and can pull up tp 1500 amps. No battery will ever do that! Plus there is one traction motor for each pair of wheels. I hope you can do basic math. Most loco`s have 6 pair of wheels. That`s 6 traction motors at up to 1500 amps each. That`s 9000 amps. You people really have NO idea how things work. You just keep coming up with you`re own ideas of what you think will work, Or keep puking up the same talking points you hear in the news.@@LegoWormNoah101
I stood next to two of these locos at BHP Yandi 2 and 3 TLO. It was sitting there idling waiting for us to finish repairs on the TLO and get off the track. It was alive - hissing and clicking, was very impressive
Waking up all that horsepower. It was just always something to be standing beside that engine when it happened. I never thought I'd miss it but i do.👍💯👍
4 exhaust valves per cylinder. Pressurized air intake from cylinder wall. 2-stroke efficiency. Batteries could never replace this. Europe train are electric, but use overhead catanery wires at 16,000 volts. THAT works well.
By the color on the outside of the locomotive doors, I'm going out on a limb here - it's an EMD SD70ACe unit for BHP Billiton in Australia. 4300 class. Definitely an EMD 16-710G3C T2 engine.
We use a external air compressor to pump up the air receivers. I don't know about cold conditions as this was taken in north of western Australia, so desert conditions.
The music of the diesel engine, you never get tired to listen to

And tell me again how your going to replace this with batteries???

Easy strip the, motor out, drain all the hydraulic fluids out then begin the engine strip down.
Bunch of specialized battery cells in a bank, built to handle the traction motors

Possibly the easiest way to do a dmu/ battery conversion would of thought..
That was a smooth start..,music to my ears
Oh how sweet it is that sweet 16. Great video
That sound, it's just wonderful
I have worked on these EMD engine most wonderful engines man has created 👍👍👍👍
I love how smooth this engine sounds on startup. It's beautiful.
Like an orchestra, every bit plays its part bang on time.
Thankyou
Precise engineering - there's nothing like it. 👍

Música para os ouvidos. Grava mais vídeos do motor!
That rhythmic chant of an EMD 2 stroke diesel can lull you to sleep on a long 12 hour night shift..
Emd 710s are the best! You can’t beat the smooth sound of those two strokes.
Nieżle zagadał,widać że są nowe sprężyny, remoncik jak trzeba to trzeba 😎
Sweet music 🎶 to the soul/ears!!! So smooth compared to the GE starts n idling

Very nice video sir.....
It's hearing like melody song.. perfect video
*Prawdziwe serce ze stali* 👍😎
So is the middle cam lobe and rocker arm the fuel injection? And the 4 or 6 valve springs on either side are the ....?
Yes the middle lobe is the fuel injector. The two either side are the four exhaust valves.
Kind regards Anthony
Middle rocker injector, 4 exhaust valves with double springs.
I love this sound ❤❤❤
wow thats really good.
I need 1 hour version of these!!
I want to watch one of those and get to work on one
Sounds like a 16-710G3A. 👌
4 exhaust valves per cylinder. Pressurized air intake from cylinder wall. 2-stroke efficiency. Batteries could never replace this. Europe train are electric, but use overhead catanery wires at 16,000 volts. THAT works well.
Symphony 😌💕
Nothing like the sound of a 16-645 on a siding.
What kind of locomotive is this?
By the color on the outside of the locomotive doors, I'm going out on a limb here - it's an EMD SD70ACe unit for BHP Billiton in Australia. 4300 class. Definitely an EMD 16-710G3C T2 engine.
Nailed it.
is this EURO4000 form alstom/vossloh/stalder?
because of warning sound before engine start
No, it's an EMD SD70ACe. They all have the warning sound for the auto engine start stop.
@@silicon212is SD70ACe with 4 stroke or 2 stroke
@@leonpano SD70ACe is 2 stroke, SD70ACe-T4 is 4 stroke. Similar names, different locomotives.
Can this fit in a car?
Ahhhhh, EMD Music!!!
Nice Dieselsound
Piękna muzyka...
wow!! Are those individual unit pumps or only injectors?
Pump and injector combination
Every cylinder of this monster! How many valves does it have?
Four valves per cylinder
4 exhaust valves per cylinder
How does the compressed air start handle it when after a long lay off and cold conditions??.
We use a external air compressor to pump up the air receivers. I don't know about cold conditions as this was taken in north of western Australia, so desert conditions.
Absolutely gorgeous
I love the sound of that thing aliveeeee
Was that just after a rebuild.
Mini overhaul.
What's the average RPM range from idle to say, what is it, like notch 6 or 8 or something like that?
Depending on the horsepower ordered by the customer. Notch 8 at 950 RPM 4500 HP or 904 rpm about 4000 HP
Can anyone explain how the air starter works?
That is the sound of 16 cylinders
How does it work?
It's a v 16 two stroke diesel driving a generator. It runs an electric motor attached to each wheel.
How to work the Valve bridge exhaust 1:00
The bridge piece is hydraulic and is set depending on the type of engine.
0:14
What oils those cam followers?
The Cam is hollow, the lines you see oil the rockers, cam rollers and lash adjusters or what you would call hydraulic lifters.
Yes it is
Class 66 or a class 59..
Loco's in Australia are numbered different in Australia however this is an SD70 ACe
The closest Aussie units to this engine would be the 4300 series of BHP locomotives
Cool do sound similar though even though there most likely to be different types of engine..
@@ferbfletcher5013 Probably exactly what this one is, by the color.
SD70ACe?
Yes
Ahh Music!
sd70?
Yes
sd70m?@@anthonycini5588
Sound similar to wdg4 diesel engine
Both were made by EMD
It exists since 1927............... never changed..............
Merica at its best.
GE?
EMD Two stroke
LOL
I starts faster than my own car!!😮

EMD 16V710
Emd v16 sound
I came here just to listen to it.
I think it's an ACe from what I can hear
710G3C
@@AbelG8781 I was referring to the model of the locomotive, which is the SD70ACe
@UnionPacificGEVO7159 yes, the engine is a dead giveaway
Sounds like a 710 to me
EMD645 V16 supercharged
No it's turbocharged but gear driven and a clutch that releases at around 75% of rated horsepower.
@@anthonycini5588that is hybird supercharged and turbo charged
