"This is the one I am practicing when my first wife served me my divorce paper" Lollll
I LOST IT DUDE
"So.. practice it at your own risk..." LOL
That joke caught so off guard... love the humour
The world is so much a better place because of your golden, priceless lessons. Thank you!!!!!
I love how music triggers memories from our lives. @5:45. 😀
Jazz pianist Eric Reed does an amazing job with this song.
Oh my god this is absolutely amazing
So glad you liked it
this isn't related to the lesson but i really like your voice ^^ There's a quality to your speaking voice that sounds like you'd make for a great singer
Not a great singer but I do enjoy vocalizing , thanks and here's a link to a vocal ua-cam.com/video/ppUpCnAjWJM/v-deo.html
I'm a double-bass player from England, and I love this channel.
As somebody really into harmnoc function it always baffles me how much you can do with broad chords that is completely outside of what works in standard music. This video gave me good insight into what works and why. Thanks.
Tony, a lot of thanks for sharing this, I'm learning piano jazz on my own and this material is very useful for me. Sending love from Colombia
Tony.........Ted's still around., now in his mid 80's or close to it and still involved with teaching, arranging and probably even playing with his trio at a local venue in our town, Sherman Oaks, Ca.
Thanks for these videos.
Your channel is gold
i learned this song a lot easier because of you and i also have a greater understanding of jazz voices and such. Thank you!
Really wonderful playing harmony and lessons, thanks 👍
Thanks a lot!
Reminds a lot of Shirley Horn. Great teacher you are!
Thanks. I really like Shirley. I got to see her once. She does the best rendition ever of peel me a grape.
Aren't you wonderful! I was listening to Frank Sinatra sing this and thought, that can't be the whole song - it's so short. So I looked around here in space for the full song and stumbled upon you. Just great! Thanks so much. I wish I could play the piano....
Lovely! Very nice tutorial. One thought - I'd like to see the key signature retained on each system after the first. Many thanks.
Agreed, these are charts from the real book....Why is it that classical music has the key signature at the beginning of every line, whereas jazz charts just put it at the beginning? One of life's mysteries I guess.
Amazing options ❤ thank you
Tot un plaer, des de Catalunya, escoltar-te. Moltes gràcies!
thanks!
So beautiful. Thank you for teaching.
Thanks from Spain.
Thanks! Greetings from Bordeaux
Thank you so much for sharing this lesson!
Nice, thank you for your teaching.
cool, sounds great Tony, and that formula is really something.
Your altereation of the last cadens is realy something to work on I understand the theory and tried such things I understand reharm and love it...
thank you so much for this!
Thank you very much for this Berkley-approach I love it subtility! Also I totaly dig your altered D7 chord especialy the shape and the b5 in The LH is new for me...
Excellent master!!
Thank you for sharing this!! Sending love from Ireland~
I am new to jazz and watch videos like this to try to understand it a bit more. I feel relatively lost in this new musical universe but I would like to know if you have any theory or analysis jazz books that could help a classical pianist learn more about jazz? I know theory pretty well but need ways to practice it more often.. any good book suggestions Anyone?
jazzology is great to start!
Damn. Beautiful rendition, very helpful visuals and explanations
sweet ! cool teaching, thxs !!!
Thanks pal!
I like this tune more in D minor, the way Evans later it
Interesting structure to the song, departing from the predictable AABA. It's just AB. There's no "bridge"...
also is it possible you do a film a bout the alternative changes? and are those used only for soloing I suppose(Itried, them Love them, I did play this song in the more oldfashioned way with a singer(the chet baker arr.)
Very interesting..
thanks from s.korea :D
5:42 Brilliant
really nice, could you make a tutorial on its always you?
pięknie🎺
I guess you played G 11- Galt C79 C7b9 Than Fm7 B7 913 Bb 13 E7 913 Eb 6 I guess
Very informative, especially for me - sax player interested in jazz piano. Where can I find the formula for tensions - it's mentioned in the open voicings pdf. It looks like a link but doesn't go anywhere!
I tried the link , it seems to work... try it again.... I'll check it out, thanks
👏👏👏
How do you choose what voicing to use when a 9 or 11th is in the melody
you consult the tension formulas. bit.ly/2lYqiHv
Tony Winston Thank you a lot! May i ask what if the 9 or 11th isnt in the melody but still in the chord. How would you voice it?
Great video, i have a question, if i want to sing the Melody do i still Play It on the right hand ? Or what note can i leave on top.
Yo! good question . . /. One approach is to just voice lead the chords so they aren't jumping around too much. Then sometimes you'll play a melody note, and sometimes you won't. But in general, if you're singing don't play the melody, but if a chord occasionally doubles the melody, no harm done.
@@TonyWinston thank you So much, great thing that i discovered this chanel !
Can anyone explain to me why gets away with omitting the third from the A half-diminished chord at the beginning of the B-section?
It would have sounded better if I had played the Third
@@TonyWinston thanks for your reply, such a fantastic arrangement. I just finished my own and yours is a tad more sophisticated but I’m keeping at it. ;-) Anyways, I’m slomo’ing the video and you do play the third! It’s one note under the melody note, the E flat.
What does it mean when there is another chord written in small above the existing chord on the sheet music? Is it a separate chord for the right hand?
Alternate chords. Usually jazzier or commonly used substitutions
@@TonyWinston Thank you very much good sir
What mic is that? And nice video :D
Akg 414 , an old one
@@TonyWinston Ty :D
