Don't get me wrong. Duane was really great but Derek Trucks has taken Duane's style of slide playing to an even higher level. Derek proudly states that he has developed his style of playing from listening to Duane's recordings.
@@barryfohn4385 Derek is a great player, but he'll never have the natural "soul" that Duane put into his playing. That's not a bad thing, it's just a fact.
He spelled it, oddly enough, Berry...and don't ever forget Gregg please....he kept both bands working. On here, UA-cam, there are bands of both, Dickey Betts, with the other brothers, but no Gregg, no Duane...and JJ had a band....and Chuck Leavell had a band...In short and in my opinion: They NEEDED GREGG...they just don't rock and they do the same songs! Gregg's songs, the ones he wrote...he was a nice guy....
Nice observation, they both were great singers although not the belting it out kind of types, just incredibly soulful. They also share similarities in their guitar playing and tone if you ask me!
Surprised Berry wasn't pressed into service - he's not bad on Hoochie Coochie Man. Duane sounds like he does on Happily Married Man. Doesn't take himself too seriously. Guitar burns as usual.
A great writer, Gregg. A master guitarist, Duane. If ya don't like their music fine. You'll respect them always, everyone in the band Dickey, Butch, Warren...
Duane was ok at singing, but he always exploited the best skills in the band to forge their sound. I love the earthiness of his voice, but I gotta say, his slide playing on this show was some of his best!
Too bad they couldn't turn Duane's mic up so you could hear him. There is definitely an organ in the background, so if Gregg wasn't there, who was playing it?
i was at this show. pretty sure it's reese wynans but duane hitchings from cactus also played with them on that show. it wasn't in 1970 though. i think it was 7/15/72
absolutely correct. i was still in the service in '70 so then it was '71. fort homer hesterly armory, tampa,fl. mike pinera from blues image/iron butterfly also sat-in with them. i think hy sledge, a local tampa band opened the show. billy jones and monty yoho, future outlaws members were in that band.
@nipper8u2 I think you're right about Reese Wynans but it was 1970 as Duane was dead in '72. Does Tampa June 6, 1970, Hillsboro Jr. College; or June 7 at Highway 301 concert in a meadow ring a bell? There is an article on Fort Homer Hesterly on July 15, 1971 and there is no mention of Gregg not performing.
Yup. He also sang "Dimples", "Going Down Slow", and "No Money Down". There's also a recording of a 1969 gig that he did with Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt (from Captain Beyond), where Duane sang Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe".
R.I.P Brothers Duane, Barry, Butch and Gregg. The sounds will go on forever ! God bless the Allman Brothers Band
Berry Oakley. Not Barry.
Rest easy Dickey Betts.
best concerts - loved meeting dicky and duane and sharing a smoke - da'BEST
That's so freakin' cool !!
Gods world has wonderful music I love being alive.
Greg born to sing and Duane born to play that slide.
Thank you for this.
Being from Macon, Ga., and having been at Mercer University (Macon) during that time, I was blessed to have seen them play several times.
I was at this show
the duane's guitar is amazing, fantastic, incomparable...never anybody like him to play slide guitar!!!

@@RayJCanPlay That's not a fact, it's an opinion--your opinion--and not a well-informed one at that. That's my opinion.
GOD BLESS !!! - A.B.B. - FOREVER - Just as the road goes. R.I.P. Brother Duane and Brother Barry.
And baby broh Gregg.... may they all RIP!!!
He spelled it, oddly enough, Berry...and don't ever forget Gregg please....he kept both bands working. Berry’s name was Raymond Berry Oakley. Not ever Barry.
Duane was one soulful cat He adds something in his vocals. Passion. Intensity. Dude was so authentic. We lost one great man. 🙏🏻❤️🙏🏻
His vocal sounds a little like Hendrix stylistically. He even gets tangled in feedback the way Jimi did sometimes. Genius.

@@grantheflin9962 Every time they played it.
so sad that we don't more video footage of duane!
Very nice hearing Duane singing this amazing song as I never did before. Thank you very much for posting it.
Duane looked like a totally different person without the iconic facial hair
Awesome! Never heard Duane sing before!
What a gem!! ✌️🍄🍑❤️
Great song. I wish the vocals were more audible. If this is way better than the recording spoken about in the description it must have been horrible.
A great writer, Gregg. A master guitarist, Duane.
If ya don't like their music fine. You'll respect them always, everyone in the band
Dickey, Butch, Warren...
Nice job! Love this version.
Duane sounded like he could be a death metal singer lol
he knew he had to make up for his singing and boy did he
SkyDog... One of the best, ever !
A gem. Loved Duane. Simply the best.
Duane Allman did Muddy Waters proud!
Duane did sing all the time, he used his slide guitar instead of his voice
Yes!
Nice 😃
Happy Heavenly 77th Birthday to the GOAT 🍄🍑❤️🎶
Could have let Oakley sing, he had an excellent voice as evident on Hoochie Coochie Man!
Duanes singing was ok but he knew Gregg had the better pipes and Duane was the better guitar player.
Yes by a long shot...

It isn't necessarily Duane's mic. It probably is the recording not picking up Duane's mic.

voy a colgar mi cerebro hasta que se seque de problemas. please no more..☮
3:43 is that Duane on drums?!? It ain't Butch. Or Berry. Or Gregg. Lol
"Dimples" is the one song we all know he did, and the vocals aren't bad, but it's a pretty easy song to sing.....
DUANE ALLMAN: Vocals & Slide Guitar, DICKEY BETTS: Guitar, REESE WYANANS: Organ, BERRY OAKLEY: Bass Guitar, BUTCH TRUCKS: Drums. JAIMOE: Drums
I hope they melted down and sold that freakin bike he died on for scrap to china, oh what the world missed out on, long live good music
is this really skydog singing i have always wanted to hear him sing
That's Duane singing. Skydog is my favorite guitar player and a virtuoso, but he was not a singer. Gregg was the singer thankfully!:)
He sings on Going down slow aswell mate
And Happily Married Man - this sounds a lot like his vocal on that one. Duane Allman Anthology Vol 1.
Yup. He also sang "Dimples", "Going Down Slow", and "No Money Down". There's also a recording of a 1969 gig that he did with Larry "Rhino" Reinhardt (from Captain Beyond), where Duane sang Jimi Hendrix's "Hey Joe".
Who was playing the Hammond?
Nobody on the B 3. Gregg was out sick that's why it sounds like there's a huge hole in the song. This version Duane is singing
Reese Wynans (later of Stevie Ray Vaughn & Double Trouble) played the VOX organ on this recording and also prior to Gregg joining the band in 1969.
Interesting....now we know why Gregg did the singing, lol
Pappo did m. Right......
