Maybe a long bolt to secure the split-prone side would make it less bulky.

HI got a reseach question for you since my hammer drill does not seem to be compatible with a side handle it seems the only real option is to buy a new drill but that could get expensive since we know that everyone is now poor I wanted to ask you your opinion please one commeter suggested getting side handle and putting it over the clutch ? ( I dont have a home work shop and cant make homemade tools here) does that sound like an option to you I guess though the question I have is I guess you would have to make adjustments before adding the handle and or do you think this could this damage your drill I want to make sure I have done adequate research before I run the risk of damaging the thing so do you think an option is tighten after adjustments are made and or do you think this could present a risk of damaging the drill ? thoughts please thank you

I’m not an expert on this but these types of things could damage the drill so be careful. You can also rent a proper drill from Home Depot in some locations as an alternative.

I'd router that split to keep skin out of there!

I had to make something for my 1937 Delta drill press that was somewhat similar .
I had to make a drill bit depth guide out of wood because the factory one was missing when I bought it.
I made it to go around the quill of the drill press with a tab sticking out the side to put a depth gauge bolt into.
To keep that piece of wood from splitting I put long bolts on either side of the quill going through the board on both sides of the quill.
So the board only went about half an inch past the bolt on the short side and stuck out farther on the other side for the depth gauge.
But when I saw the title of this video I was hoping you're going to show how to make a handle cap for a Miller's Falls or similar eggbeater drill on the drill bit storage in the handle.
When I got mine at a yard sale it didn't have the original screw on cap for the handle. Instead it had a rubber cap from the bottom of a walking cane or table leg to keep the drill bits from falling out.
I use all four of my cordless antique hand drills as often as I can.
My favorite one is my North Brothers 1545 .
My second favorite is my Miller's Falls # 2.
A Millers Falls # 5 is the one that needs the handle cap.
The fourth one is a North Brothers 1530 in new condition. But it has the Stanley name on it because Stanley bought out north brothers and got a lot of their good tool designs also.
I did have to make a side handle for the 1545.
I didn't start from scratch. I went and got a file handle and put a piece of all thread in the end and carved out a straight blade screwdriver bit on the end that screws into the side of the drill because that's the way they came from the factory. 😁😃😉
Having that built-in screwdriver is handy for tightening the screws on the drill itself.
I know you get so many responses you probably won't read this but I'll mention it anyway.
I use my so-called egg beater drills more as screwdrivers and nut drivers with the adapters which they work fantastic for. 😁😃😄😉🙄
They also work good for stirring paints, and peanut butter, winding up old clocks, etc.
I even thought of getting a fan blade to put on them to keep me cool. 😁🙄
If anybody thinks of any more uses please let me know. 😉
