Make a Sanding Block with Spring Action Locking!!
Вставка
- Опубліковано 29 вер 2024
- These little spring loaded sanding blocks come in handy in any wood shop. They are fun and easy to make! They can be made in various sizes to fit any belt. You can also add a thin layer of cork to the base to help get a nice, smooth finish when sanding. Having the spring loaded mechanism with the locking pin makes it convenient to change your sanding belts when needed. This is a great way to use up some of your scrap wood to create a really useful tool. It also makes a great gift for any craftsman! My friend, Jim Who introduced me to this a while back, and it's been a great addition to The Muz Shop. Thanks for watching!
Here is a drawing from a viewer that I would like to share. The dimension change according to what belt you plan on using.

Hallo super Idee und super Video. 👏👏👏👏welche Bandlänge hast du verwendet ?
Jim Who?
That’s right the one and only....🤣👍🏻
Laek 🤗🇰🇬😄
Looking *DEAD* into the camera at 0:24 while catching the single flip of the block.... how is THAT not what all the comments are about?! 😜💙 This is the best solution for a sanding block I've found online yet! Thanks! 👍
Thanks!! Believe it or not I did that in one take.... I really appreciate your comment. Comments like this keep me going.👍
@@TheMuzShop Something to consider, when you do a project like this, you really ought to do a run of a few dozen... after watching this video, I'd pay ANYTHING to click a link in the description and buy one for $50+ "while supplies last". I often think of this when I see someone make something cool (or over built, or just interesting) in a video, when they have everything set up, figured out, sourced, measured, etc. It makes way more sense to me than buying a $25 Tshirt at a gift shop or a glass from some expensive restaurant or a $250 keychain from Tiffany's... not only is it a cool item, but it's something you can actually use (and enjoy) regularly. The tool shelf on a guy's workbench is much less different than a girl's jewelry box on her dresser than we like to think. 😍
Super clever, Mike. That's awesome
Fisher's Shop Thanks Drew. I’m waiting for your sled video to release! 👍👍
@@TheMuzShop Haha, I haven't even started editing yet. I have 86GB of footage to sort through. This is gonna be massive. lol
Me gusto la animación
gracias
You don't need anything as complicated as this to make a "self locking" sanding block. You just need to cut the edges of your block at a 15 degree angle. The narrow face goes at the top, the wider face goes down. Then wrap sandpapder round the block, and crease the paper on the 15 degree edges, take it off, fold along the creases and put it back on. The sandpaper will hold itself to the block!
see alexanderguestguitars.com Videos page "The World's Best Sanding Block" for the full run-down.
What is the source for the spring?
Just went to the local Ace Hardware store and found one that worked. Thanks for watching. 👍👍👍
Muy buena herramienta
👍👍
Así es, se la voy a copiar!
Saludos desde Reynosa Tamaulipas México amigo!!!
Great idea thanks - I would set a small neodymium magnet in the side and a channel just deep and wide enough to keep the locking pin in place. Just so it is always there when you need it.
Thanks and that’s a great idea 💡. 👍🏻👍🏻
Great idea.. good video
Thanks
thanks I'm glad you liked it.
Looked at several videos on these sanding blocks and I think yours is by far simpler to build. Thumbs up! Only change I will do is drill a separate hole to hold the locking nail. I can loose a pencil in a shirt pocket. Chazz, Working Hand Wood Works
Thanks and I really like the the nail holder idea👍👍

I just made a couple of of these sanding blocks... awesome i love them!
Thanks for the video!
I’m glad you like them, thanks
What a great idea. Can you share what spring you have used?
Just get anything similar .... 1/2' in diameter X 1 1/2 long about....
Awesome sanding block, gotta make some. Thank you
Ya do it !hanks for watching
Nice! Any issues with the sanding belt shifting or coming loose during use? Seems like ones hand could push the heal and loosen the sanding belt during use.
Maybe use a stronger spring to reduce this?
I have not had a problem with that happening. Thanks for watching
I think that may become a problem if you sand in a backward motion, but as one normally applies sanding pressure in the forward motion I doubt it would affect shifting of the sanding belt to any noticeable degree
Cool build and good editing!
