They are fascinating to watch when they do this sparring. Typically the males are doing it, but I've had some real aggressive females as well.

I have a breeding pair of angels. I know they are mated because they have successfully laid many different batches of eggs (we even got to the fry stage one time before the fry got eaten 😢). However, I noticed tonight that they are fighting with each other. This is not normal behavior for them. They are always kind to each other and aggressive towards the other fish (mostly when they are in the mating process). The male seems to be instigating the fight and they even locked mouths with each other. Should I be concerned? I cannot really separate them because our other large tank has another angel male in it (we moved the pair once we confirmed that they had paired). At the moment, I'm not concerned about a successful batch because they are in a community until I can eventually get yet another large tank for them to be in.
So how long after the angels start cleaning off a spot will they lay eggs? I have been watching them clean this same anubias leaf for 3 and a half hours taking breaks to chase everybody back to the other side of the tank.

Ok so I have a question you might be able to answer. I have one female ready to lay eggs. She is aggressive with one of the males, but cleaning a leaf with another male. All three of them have their breeding tubes out. So to me it looks like she is trying to get the one male to piss off. But the two males aren’t being aggressive with each other at all. So could she still be choosing a mate maybe??

My two angel fish were babies when I got them they have been together for a year and half and I transferred them to a bigger tank finally well now their being very aggressive I was thinking it was the tank but I added two new babies in there and I think that may the issue I need help 😞

I bought two wild nearly the Same size angle biggest of the two kept the smaller of the two in check in 1 place then I see the smaller 1 sort of showing of but now the at her 1 is acting simpler and seem OK around the tank

Its inhabitants include cardinal tetra, harlequin rasbora, cory cats, hillstream loaches, Otos, a plakat male betta and a SAE. I was wanting to add angelfish to the aquarium. Would it be a good idea. If yes, how many should I add and should I get all of one sex, e.g, all Male or all female, or get a mix. I hope you can help. Cheers

Can some one HELP me with this question please 🙏😞 I have a tank full of angel fish every time a female lay eggs the other adult fish would eat the eggs ...now my female is pregnant again should I remove her to a next tank ? If so I would like to know how would I identify her mate to remove him also for him to fertilize the eggs ?
It was pretty easy for us to tell who our angel parents were. They stuck together, defended the eggs together, and took care of the eggs (i.e. ate the white ones and fanned them). If you want a successful breeding, the best thing would be to put them in their own tank. Community tanks cause them a lot of stress, and the eggs usually end up being eaten. I would also provide flat rocks or slates for them to lay the eggs on that are away from the filter intake. But, if those areas have good water/air flow that would increase the chances of the eggs successfully hatching.

We have a pair that were louth locking for ages and posturing but then one started aggressively chasing the other around the tank and seemed to be attacking the body. The other is now in the corner at the bottom of the tank cowering... feels more like two males fighting for dominance. (Only two in the community tank) Thoughts appreciated?

The female swam back to under this rock bridge i have then turned around and went back after the male but he came back at her and she acted like she was trying to hold her ground but was gonna get overpowered.
They are back to swimming by each other for now like normal so maybe they just had a bad disagreement? Lol

You can provide them with flat rocks or pieces of slate to lay their eggs on. Avoid your filter intake area and bonus if you can place them in a good water/air flow area. Once you have a mated pair, it won't take long to start finding eggs being defended by mom and dad.

yes that is common after mine lay there eggs i move mine to a refugium to keep that from happening if they lay on a mop or slate or plant if they choose a aquarium wall i remove the parents to another tank

Nice video and helpful info! However, you can sex an angelfish as early as juvenile. Under the belly theres a small bump (female). The head is also angular. The male has a bump on the head and no bump below the belly!
Hello... I have a pair of angels that I had in a community tank. They had eggs however most got eaten within a day or two. I removed them and put them in a separate tank. They had eggs that lasted about 4 days however I noticed that the eggs had turned completely white and were eaten within a week. This past week there were more eggs and it seems that they had moved them and I noticed the pair doing something I never saw them do before. They have been aggressive with each other and they have been literally sucking/hooking on each other’s mouth. Is this normal for them to do?

Six to seven, but there are other issues to take into account. Like tank height, and more importantly whether some become breeding pairs. When Angels couple up things can get violent.
