The best advice I'd give new players is: *If you're always the first to die, change something.* *If you're always the last one alive, FFS change something!* I think what stops a lot of people from improving (not just in games) is that they keep trying _the same thing but harder._ If what they do is rush in and die, they'll probably "learn" the game is not for them. If they always die last they'll "learn" that's a good way to play. All the people I watch who are good at this game like to change things around even though they know everything. PS I don't play, I used to play when the game came out, I come back every 3 years and then I get frustrated by the pepegas and potatoes and metamorons and uninstall.
Another tip, not sure if you covered this: The option to run around solo in the map of your choice! I forget what it's called... Noobs should run around in each maps at least once without being shot it to get the layout. Best to do that in a fast mech with JJs. Without this you may end up playing for many many hours and seeing some maps only once, and it's very hard to figure out what to do on a map you've never seen. Also it's fun to jump around some of the maps.
Check ping rate and desellect servers with poor ping. If in location with poor ping use splatter weapons. SRM or LBX. I use ATM a lot as I rearly get under 320ms, but need to understand minimum range. Starter Mech if you don't want farm C-Bills in trial. Artic Wolf or Assassin. These generally sturdy and get decent damage. Bit against early players using Heavy and Assault Mechs as they tend to be pivotal to team win and slower means positioning is important. Don't use LRMs, they're trickier to use correctly and learn bad habits like hiding and spamming at long range. I recommend target lock to SPACE jump to mouse only. Lock targets important not only team but for assistance. Did you mention mouse reaction, needs to be lowered to aim decently. Sorry can't remember name or setting. Find mech buddy and die together, I mean follow and learn. Share agression. Run with group. Use heat vision if issues seeing. Not only for night or cold maps. Need mouse with at least 5+ buttons 1 & 2 for weapons {no more required beginner} zoom wheel, jump, stealth/masc. Optional arte, weapon 3. Buy light, Med, heavy and assault first in Med - >Heavy - >Light - >Assault order. Just do you get perspective of what other players experience. Learn not to stand light behind assaults or block, learn how slow assault is, so you understand movement over positioning. So understand expectation of taking damage vs dodgy damage, etc. Learn movement with lights and positioning with assaults.
Textwall inbound... Don't assblock your teammates, if you have a choice. Don't cross your teammate's fireline if you have a choice (especially while he/she is shooting the enemy). Don't stop in any narrowpath at the beginning of a match, when there are teammates following you. Don't fu..ing touch your weapon triggers at the beginning of a match, when there are literally no targets in your range/viscon, but there are teammates around you can damage for no reason ...and get teamkilled by me for that shit. (Because your automated penalty system totally sucks, PGI.) Don't compose hot builds (1...2 alphastrikes to get toasted) - they suck ...like always. USE those damn "testing grounds" to test whatever you can on any new mech/build BEFORE buying it (talents are unavailable for unowned/trial mechs). Yeah, targets stand still there, but you, for example, can shoot only on the move to feel it closer to an actual match. Get used to rotato-potato shit in the game (and don't support that most stupid tactic ever) ...regard it as weather you can't influent on ...cause some morons will stay morons no matter what. Supporting your assaults is a default priority - they are usually too awkward to handle a light enemy mech running around them (and too stupid to fully skill up "Mobility" tree :p). If you use ECM on your mech, always fully skill it up in talents, otherwise it sucks. And learn thoroughly, how ECM works in both modes ...especially how it blocks enemy ability to lock streaks/LRMs/ATMs on a target. Number of ECMs affecting one enemy mech simultaneously means a lot. Use freefire time whenever you can (when you have a "busy" enemy in your range). If you caught an enemy from behind, don't russle to compromise your position - at first try to read out his damage pattern and/or to figure out, how many friends he has nearby. - Many players are radar-blind most of the time. And if you decided to shoot and run, align you legs for running off BEFORE knocking on his back. Use microphone, if it's faster/more effective than those "E" voice signals in any particular situation. Never, fu..ing NEVER facehug a crossfired target! If you need to approach it to get your weapons' range, avoid your teammates' active firelines. If you got totally disarmed - check, what you still can do: tanking (while your teammates can shoot those enemies)/capturing (if it's a proper match type)/blocking enemies' move (if it can help your teammates with aiming)/ram enemies (if you are fast enough)/die horribly (if all previous variant are unavailable). Don't give away coordinates of your teamates to the enemy, unless they are last left AFK + it's a skirmish match type (0 ms ping means "not connected", not AFK). Don't fire your weaponry, when it makes no any sense - no damage to your enemies/heat/cooldown/compromising position/wasting ammo. Hold such distance from your team in which you anticipate any help from them. For example, if you go solo all way around the map for backstabbing - they literally can't help you fast. Moreover... never anticipate any adequate/timely help from them.

We players are also kind of lucky because all PGI has done over the past ~2 years is rotate trial mechs. Your older videos are still very relevant because nothing has changed as far as armor, weapons, or maps go. I think a general "Where should you go" map series would be excellent. [x] color blind friendly reticule on the game settings gives you that "Hit Marker" to confirm your shots. i highly recommend turning this on as the feedback of landing shots would help you adjust the aiming and predict better projectile speeds on your mechs
Great video up until the match 😍 and perfect teach during the match how to give up right from the start instead of explaining where to go when being LRMed or how to use voip to communicate or make the best of a bad start, what Nascar is or why you can't climb and which mechs could or that jump jets would be great 😊 Every thing before the match was very nice and informative, thank you ❤️

You will also be hammered into paste till you get some skills under your belt and learn that you cannot just run in and expect to survive. Awsome work on the video. You rock TTB. My tip would be not to waste "DUH right" your cadet bonus C bills. Get a solid starter mech to start the grids for more C bills and mechs. I kind thing for a new player one of the good cheaper omi mechs that will give more load-out and play styles options on a single mech by swapping pods IMO. Why well some mechs side are easier to hit then the core,a mech might have a really nasty high damage weapon in the side and on top of that if yea take out weapons quickly you save your self and more importantly your team damage taken. A dead mech is always best they damage no one but sometimes it just easier and quicker to neuter the enemy's team damage by crippling weapon systems.
thank you for this. got the game finally (it wouldnt let me make account), do the tutorial and start off with an assault mech not knowing a single thing about pvp in this game. now i know, and will stick with a few specific mechs as i didnt know how to change or i only had one

In a game in which your guns are not in the same directions as your feet, why would you want to "slow down" your mouse? I can understand in an FPS game, but... just asking honestly, I'm a newbie.
I'm afraid you can't kill the instructor. I built a configuration with a big pinpoint alpha strike mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=497&l=d1ffda383d58b94c2d2bb9d5c79ed162c190f9a2 and shot him in the back CT. I made sure it wouldn't shut down on the first strike, because I wanted to keep Capt Adams' mech status visible. It was an 82+ alpha strike that should have gone through most of his CT hit points, but all it did was bring his mech's health down to 99%, for less than second. If you're bored enough, you can see for yourself here: ua-cam.com/video/ygtCc7GuRYo/v-deo.html
can you maybie tell me what the little yellow circle with yellow legs in it and a arrow pointing backwards mean in the lower left corner of the hud (showing up occasionally)? in 8 years of playing this game nobody can give an answer oO? P.S.: its showing up between 30:03 and 30:04 for maybie a second in your video
I suppose it indicates the direction in which the robot's legs are pointing, if you look at the minimap when it makes a sharp turn of the torso to the right, the arrow on the legs is almost coming out of the "cone of vision", it must be one way to keep in mind that if you keep looking in that direction, when you press "w" to move forward you will start moving to the left instead of forward. Maybe I'm wrong since I'm new to the game but that's the impression it gave me when I noticed it in the tutorial xd
good work. I have an idea ... do it in German ... our community is not small but many are not so inclined to English ... would definitely be unique ...
Maybe the 1,00 mouse sensitivity can be too much for some, espacially new players. I had it much lower at the beginning and now at 0,50 and many times my gaming mouse is helpful to regulate the right dpi for my day and mech per keypress.
I grew up playing all the MW's and just went thru replaying everything in the series, and still have a pretty big MW itch. Is MW: Online still going, with players online? I beta tested back in 2011 and 2012 but have not been on since..
yes it is the playerbase is relatively small, I heard that it maxed at about 800 tops, recently but thats still enough to get regular play as I play it regularly
Hey buddy. Thanks for the video. I haven't played a mech game in... oh gosh, 30 years? I have a Thrustmaster T.16000, are you serious that I can't use this? I was hoping to play this game with the joystick, but... thanks for any help.
It's a modern shooter game. Mouse and Keyboard is the way. Joystick controls are way too imprecise and slow. A small group of people want to go the extra way and recapture the Battletech pod experience, but I'd just recommend to use the modern controls.
DEFINITELY SET PARTICLES TO LOW!!!!! otherwise your screen get spammed with little explosions and you cant see shit when ballistics getting shoot at you
not exactly the controls i imagine when thinking of a mech game. acts more like WOT if you were to simply stay in the aimed in view the entire time. but its the best mech game i can find..
@@TTBprime I'm asking because I used to play Armored Core and I found the PS controller set-up to be really functional. Don't see much difference in mech mechanics between the games so I think it'll be fine. Thanks for responding!
i decided to check with a calculator. over 100 mech chassis with SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY Variants to buy in this game. talk about over abundance of choice 'eh?
Indeed... The devs tried to give us visual cues for where we could and couldn't climb the canyon walls, but it might help for TTB to show and explain it.
This is a great starting point for new players. The tips in the settings in particular. The trial mechs are a big face-palm moment. I don't think any of them can be suggested, unless they put the Orion iic trial back.
TTB, I know you were distracted with your stream, but any new viewers that want/need to know: @ 58:09 to the left of TTB is a trail up the cliff that 'Mechs can traverse to the top. The Warhammer was directly on it @ 58:08. The trail is lighter colored than the cliffside. With the previous timestamps as knowledge, go to 58:06 and look for it. Useful information on that map for 'Mechs with no jumpjets.
Very nicely done. Been playing for a couple years and still learned something new! One note I would add in your next video... Could you mention going into audio settings and verifying your speaker and microphone selection after a Windows update (especially if you find yourself with no comms in game...)? Not everyone knows that this is a regular issue. Cheers mate!
I see a lot of unfriendly colors for color blind people. The color blind option is for the reticle only? -_- Very disappointing. I should be able to set the color of map icons and friendly/enemy mech indicators. This game is 10 years old... they will never add true color blind options.
Stop bringing LRMs (and only LRMs). It let's people know you have 0 skill, and are an easy target. Especially when you bring ONLY LRMs on a fucking assault...
I love your videos but man. Did you just waste 45 minutes having people watch a tutorial they're gonna have to play through anyway? What makes a build good? Why are mech bays important? What is good formation? What's the most economical way you can use your money as a new player? When to unlock my arms? I feel like most of the people watching this have already played a few matches have either hit a wall or don't know what they're doing exactly. There's a big gap between tutorial and being competent at the game and we need to bridge that gap
tbh I made the tutorial. Then I entered the "choose a mech . match" part of the game and... I after 20 minutes of trying to figure things out, I uninstalled. I did not understand a single thing to the UI, and I couldn't launch a single match, stuck in waiting loops that I did not understand. I'm not sure I will come back.

As a perspective player, is this game pay to win? Like what I mean is am I going to have buy premium time and other stuff to make the game bearable to play? Because I'm not looking to grind for 100 hours before I get a decent mech.
It has been about 3 years since i played. Wish i had your tutelage back then. I would have certainly enjoyed the game much better. New players will really be better off after watching your tutorials. To top it off i just learned a couple things too :) I remember having a lot of mechs to choose from for trial mechs. PGI needs put them back. I still don't know how to do the conversion of stuff in order to get skill points. I liked the old system.
I'm a returning founder. After all these years I came back to find a very lively community. If only the community was better at putting a little pressure on Piranha to seriously consider upgrading Cry Engine now that Mercenarys is out. Thank you for all the content.
Literally just found this channel and its making me want to get back into mwo. It really helps me understand stuff in this game especially with how little info the game actually gives you
I recently poked my head into this game after playing a bunch of MW5 Mercs. I was needing some idea of how to get started. Hopefully I can stop embarrassing myself now.
do not worry it happens. running in a medium mech, then finding the entire other team while rounding a corner. focus on staying alive. After that you learn. Try to see what you can do, then learn what other mechs can do to you. Find a play stile that you like, brawler, sniper, midrange or god forbid LRM boat. Then the light harasser that terrifies assaults' mechs. I have been in a locust 20 tons, and one shot two Direwolfs (100 ton clan mechs) that were full health. No ECM, just learned how to use the terrain to be a sneaky SOB, by masking my movements behind the terrain or looking at them from out of detection range. Remember faction play can be fun with 4 drops in different mechs. The solo que now has groups in it along with faction play, so find a unit to join and play on discord or team speak with them. That is the fastest way to learn. Then on in game coms ask questions. This player base is older than normal, and most likely someone will help you out
Just a quick heads up, voice chat is disabled (speaking, they can still hear I believe) for the first 25 games for cadets. This was PGI’s response to a group who kept spamming alt accounts to harass low tier players.
Don't know if anyone can help with this but just downloaded 3 days ago on steam and I can't figure out how to get the game into full screen mode, is there a setting somewhere in the game I have overlooked? Any help would be appreciated
I know your comment is a little bit older, but maybe it helps for other people. After you log in, you can see settings down right. Graphics. And then set windowed to Fullscreen and change the resolution to fit your monitor
Great video. I got back to MWO after playing a bit of Mech Arena. I never played MWO since it first comes out, it was just too complicated! Completed the tutorial tonight and did my first quick play. Got some points, but didn’t expect to win anyway. A video on the different game modes and maybe maps would be great. Subbed.
Welcome aboard! If you have specific questions make sure to drop in on the livestreams over on Twitch, or hop onto our Discord server. Both links are in the video description.
You should do 1 segment for beginners and 1 segment for veterans. The segment for beginners explains the basic mechanics of how a mech walks, its internal systems, targeting, heat management, and a detailed explanation of skill tree. Most importantly how do u build a mech that will not overheat, and is undergunned proper mechgineering to avoid catastrophe. The 2nd segment will cover tactics i.e 1 v1, light vs medium etc., team cohesion, critical hit boxes and weapon convergence.
Got any helpful tips to share? Add them as a response to this comment for people to see!

I built a configuration with a big pinpoint alpha strike mwo.smurfy-net.de/mechlab#i=497&l=d1ffda383d58b94c2d2bb9d5c79ed162c190f9a2
and shot him in the back CT. I made sure it wouldn't shut down on the first strike, because I wanted to keep Capt Adams' mech status visible.
It was an 82+ alpha strike that should have gone through most of his CT hit points, but all it did was bring his mech's health down to 99%, for less than second.
If you're bored enough, you can see for yourself here:

Had to turn my mouse sensitivity all the way down to 0.1 just to make it reasonable. This happens way too often in games. I do not get it.
Great work!
can you maybie tell me what the little yellow circle with yellow legs in it and a arrow pointing backwards mean in the lower left corner of the hud (showing up occasionally)? in 8 years of playing this game nobody can give an answer oO?
I mean any mechwarrior of good taste would know the Dragon is the best heavy mech ;)

Maybe the 1,00 mouse sensitivity can be too much for some, espacially new players.
I had it much lower at the beginning and now at 0,50 and many times my gaming mouse
is helpful to regulate the right dpi for my day and mech per keypress.
I grew up playing all the MW's and just went thru replaying everything in the series, and still have a pretty big MW itch.
Is MW: Online still going, with players online? I beta tested back in 2011 and 2012 but have not been on since..
yes it is
the playerbase is relatively small, I heard that it maxed at about 800 tops, recently
but thats still enough to get regular play as I play it regularly
Early in the morning when pop is low I still find games in under 30 seconds with assault mechs
Great tutorial
Thank you!
@@TTBprime Yeah I hear ya. I tried with the joystick... like you said, imprecise and slow. Honesly don't even wanna play the game now. Thanks anyway.
a video with advices for pro gaming/dueling would be great!
Everyone needs to learn a thing or two about min/maxing.
You can't win in the mechlab, but you can damn sure lose there.
Man, why dont they do MWO2?
DEFINITELY SET PARTICLES TO LOW!!!!!
otherwise your screen get spammed with little explosions and you cant see shit when ballistics getting shoot at you
not exactly the controls i imagine when thinking of a mech game.
acts more like WOT if you were to simply stay in the aimed in view the entire time.
but its the best mech game i can find..
can u use a wireless ps type controller?
Maybe, but anything other than mouse + keyboard is putting yourself at a disadvantage.
@@TTBprime I'm asking because I used to play Armored Core and I found the PS controller set-up to be really functional. Don't see much difference in mech mechanics between the games so I think it'll be fine. Thanks for responding!
@@DowJonesDave Give it a try and let me know how it turns out!
timberwolf no questions asked
So i am not insane. Many maps have a clear advantage for one team over the other.. fucking hell PGI..
Unless it bothers your eyeballs you should ALWAYS turn on the color blindness button in MWO. Meow
i decided to check with a calculator. over 100 mech chassis with SIX HUNDRED AND EIGHTY Variants to buy in this game. talk about over abundance of choice 'eh?
Tip #1 - Uninstall MWO
Tip #2 - See tip #1
"How to navigate Canyon in an assault: a tutorial"
Hell Yes! Thank you for this
No problem!
Can a skill tree, set up on one mech type, be imported and used on a different mech type?
Would have been great if you actually played the newbie mechs you recommended. Other than that it was good. :)
Cheers mate!
thanks for this nice tutorial!
see you on the battlefield!
have fun!
I see a lot of unfriendly colors for color blind people. The color blind option is for the reticle only? -_- Very disappointing. I should be able to set the color of map icons and friendly/enemy mech indicators. This game is 10 years old... they will never add true color blind options.
10:57 Superhero Landing!!
Just like Dead-Pool
I really find it difficult to see enemies. Even when targetted, I still find it difficult to see
These spawn points are why I now run with JJ assaults :(
Ebon Jag.... so sexy have to run it. Always rush it in mech games.
High weapon mounts are nice too.
So, there I was...und ich dachte so bei mir...suuper..deutscher UA-camr erklärt und gibt Tips. Tut er auch, aber....Muttersprache wohl verloren gegangen. Alter....haben wir keine eigene Sprache mehr? Is their any way to cope with headaches you get from the bouncy walking?
Ive been away and forgot how amazing this game is and fun
As a perspective player, is this game pay to win? Like what I mean is am I going to have buy premium time and other stuff to make the game bearable to play? Because I'm not looking to grind for 100 hours before I get a decent mech.
Although the few hero mechs are hidden behind a paywall, they are not OP compared to their counterparts. So hop in and enjoy!
DO I HAVE TO PLAY THE CAMPAIN TO PLAY ONLINE
how to get that direction indicator?
Looks great lollollol.
Is this game still free2play?
sure
Finally got my own hardware, looking forward to finally giving this a go. Got nobody to play with, though. That I know of.
hop onto my discord, always people willing to play
@@TTBprime Sounds good, man. \m/
Wow! Great job! My MWO stood for six months, because I couldn't even figure out how to start Quick play.
This player base is older than normal, and most likely someone will help you out
I had it several times that the Cadets where matched all on the same team. Sometimes 4-5 Cadets on blue, zero on red.
WoW Great video!! Thanks!!
Thanks!
No problem!
Just a quick heads up, voice chat is disabled (speaking, they can still hear I believe) for the first 25 games for cadets. This was PGI’s response to a group who kept spamming alt accounts to harass low tier players.
Good information!
We needed this so much!! Ttb you rock dude
Subbed.
Still have my MW3 and Mech Commander boxes 😎
I really appreciate you creating this content.
Thanks mate, hope it helps!
Awesome guide! Thank you!
Glad it helped!
Nobody plays mwo as a newplayer. its an old todger game played only by older folks and a few younger ones who couldn't make it in real FPS's.
Bullshit.
Played this a while ago and just fired it up again, I wonder if my mad cat is still there(waiting on download)
Sure
thank you for this video!
