I love this conversation! I think it is so important, for men especially, to see this is a great way to look at fights with one’s friends.
My amateur punch-up:
“Sometimes I’m doing the dishes and think that life is a-ok. Other times, I hold onto the steak knife in the sink juuuust a second too long.”
Cannot get enough of Birbiglia! Funny because of his genuine vulnerability,,,sometimes I cry real tears because I can finally face that same "thing" with love & forgiveness.
I am so happy you're putting out the videos now!
Exactly! it worths the wait!
Two of my favorites together, that's pretty good.
Some deep and interestingly layered conversation, very much appreciate the openness of these two to share this.
Mike! Loved seeing you working it out in Indianapolis for my 40th with my Mom. The joke where Clo says you don't seem happy definitely works. I think a side that could perk it up is to define "happy". It's such a limiting word for such a complex feeling. They say Eskimos have like 200 words for snow. Maybe we just need more words for happy. Like recovering from cancer is a very specific happiness. Taking off socks at the end of the day is a different kind of happy. So on and so on. I think the goal isn't happiness, but maybe satisfaction or belonging.
Contentment.
Don’t know Mike…came for Tom….gonna check out Mike more..
Yo shouts out to City Green! My mom helps out with their books and actually saw the donation from Mike Birbiglia and mentioned it to me. Which led to us watching his new special as a family the other day, which led to me bingeing his content today, which led me to this comments section! Small world man.
God, I love men coming around to vulnerability and truthfulness. Brave stuff. #bromancing
I kind of love Birbig's sweatshirt..
What a fantastic podcast
The conversation that you had about your relationship with each other was nice to hear. I like listening to both of your comedy specials. This was really nice to listen to. Thanks
This was great!!
This spreads joy. Rock on guys!
This was a wonderful video to see, both as a new comedian and as an older person (54) who has trouble with conflict. It's wonderful to hear about your experiences and how you moved to a new level in your relationship, while also sharing how comedy doesn't always have to be a "me against the world" kind of conflict. Bringing the audience in as part of the conversation and just enjoying the idea of making them laugh is all I've ever wanted to do. Thank you, Mike and Tom for sharing your thoughts.
Papa has the same delivery on a Podcast as in his stand-up. Guess that makes him genuine.
I picture Tom adding an Fbom to every act now and nobody knows when it's going to happen but everyone is waiting for it.
What is it about two comedians talking to each other that is so entertaining?
They’re funny.
@@paulferranti8536 Comedians...are funny.....BY GEORGE, I THINK YOU'RE RIGHT!!!

Mike, funny 2 have listened to ur Jim G podast first....jim gaficant😂😂 hearing u and Papas recalling is PRICELESS
the 'therapy thing' is good Tom .... keep going
I want to see a comedy special called "Cookies are Stupid"
I like how you guys did the typical comedian chat and banter and then later dive into a real discussion when you're looking for a peer's opinion and insight on something you're mulling over in your head recently
Mike initially sounded like he didn’t remember at all. Wow. I really love that they’re rehashing this, because it helps me to see how people handle these things.
This was one of the best ytube casts, ended too soon. Please help Tom with the audio on his cast. You both have a way of showing us what is going on inside our heads, very calming, and hilarious.
awesome.
Love you and Fortune on Sirius, now here too!
The algorithm put the Jim Gaffigan episode up next

Thanks for your effort, it’s appreciated.
Re: asking peeps for help: asking the wrong people too many times that ignore, betray, or reject you... Makes asking anyone at all REALLY hard.
Re: Are u happy?
"Not happy" terrifies people hiding from the truth. "Not happy" (dependent on outside circumstance) does not preclude contentment (all inside job. )
Aaaaand the thing about guys like you using FUCK in your act is this...
Ya gotta EARN it and ask
is it the BEST art for the art.
A-okay to Fuck is the greatest extreme. From purity to violence. It wins.
Unless it's A-okay to "Other times I just wanna punt my kid's puppy."...
But the people who laugh at that punchline are not your fans.
Some people think meanness and dark truthful humor are the same.
Wise comedians know they are not.
May you both continue to use your humor and wisdom to benefit humanity.
I know you didn't ask, but i think the therapy part should be the button. "and then we go to therapy and say 'hey doc, i only want to feel half of this... all the time"
Cursing is not bad, but what makes it the biggest laugh in your act is the element of surprise. If you curse every sentence, this wouldn't get you the biggest laugh. But the fact that you rarely curse surprises people when you do it, and it has more impact.
I'm going to start asking this question in comic's podcasts:
How come there's never a mention of Marc Maron?
I interviewed Mike (for a small-town show) around the same time Tom called him out for social climbing. I admit Mike was kinda dismissive, which I found really discouraging. Nice to hear it was just a phase. Now I can love his comedy without that old sting.
A-OK my ass!
I actually disagree at 36:46. The prison being Scandinavian helps the joke. & sure, most people don't know, but it's irrelevant. We all just assume that everything is easier there...
I guess it's because I'm a political junky, but I totally knew what he was talking about and it helped the joke for me too.
@@wildboer Absolutely. That shit fascinates me...but even for those unaware of their prison system & the Nordic model in general: if you were to ask whether they'd prefer to go to Riker's Island or some prison in Sweden, they'd probably think, "Well, you know it'll be furnished by IKEA & they'll have hot cocoa so yeah, not a tough choice..."
Wow- these guys just danced around each other without Mike saying sorry outright and Tom accepting it…I don’t feel like this was resolved at all so much as “let’s just move on since it happened a long time ago…”
The problem with Tom trying to work out a joke with Mike is they’re in the same headspace so they’re not gonna pull the better line
instead of f this place, maybe, kill me now
Er, am I the only one that thinks Tom is kinda a jerk?
yes
Pretty much
I don't think so...
Judgemental? Privileged?….you’re not completely wrong
Two of best who got me through the pandemic! 🤍🤍
