Context-- Spalling is penetrative breakage shrapnel damage, Fragmentation is deflective breakage damage. As is the longstanding cognizance about Ballistic Plate types, they both have their pros and cons (obviously Steel is heavier, while Ceramic compromises quicker and easier with impacts and other damage requiring replacement no matter what, among other nuances). I've done Consulting and testing for 2 Steel Armor companies in the past, Proprietary Catch Coatings are wildly variable, and some are far better than others based on the criteria of investment into material/ chemical and molecular study and development of the substance integration, and the application process of adhering the catch coating itself to the Steel (and a few other things). AR550 and AR600 (and a few other categorical sub-types within those blend brackets) are better performing than AR500 Steel. If you have purchased plates with a coating, do some research on that material coating-- but when it is a sound product and applied correctly, its a major security blanket. There are also Kevlar sleeves and backers you can get to increase capabilities. Also, multi-curve plates are a far better design than single curve and (obviously) flat-set plates no matter the type of Plate material, those ergonomics and the additional form and physics-applied factors are also something to keep in mind.
I like both plates and use both plates. You can also get a spawl bag that helps not only keep the spawl coating from separating but is constructed to catch spawling. Both plates have their pros and cons, but they will both save your life. *note: there is no legitimate level IV steel body armor. Good video Elliot.
I wish you would go back to the 2nd Amendment gun loving Elliott. Now it seems like all your videos are just commercials and you're just saying whatever just to sell a product that is sponsoring you or on the payroll. Just being honest.
Noted. It’s a fine line to walk. I am not on anyones payroll. I havnt taken money from a single company. I do get a lot of my products that I test and review, at no monetary cost to me. With that being said I feel the need to thank them for the support they give me because it does help keep the channel going with content. I try to be as upfront as I can with you all because you guys are the whole reason I started making UA-cam in the first place. Just wanted to share my thoughts with the world about stuff I had. I appreciate your honesty and feedback. I brush off a lot of the comments because they are usually key board warriors but consider yours taken. Thank you.
@@ElliottDelp Thank you, much appreciated. I believe people are taken more seriously if you're straight up and nice opposed to slinging insults. I wanted to clarify that what I meant by payroll was receiving free products in return for a favorable review on video.
@@ElliottDelp keyboard warrior here… it’s constructive criticism. You have to think, the people who sent you these products don’t test their products the way you did so why do their product that way after they provided it for you. I’ve been watching you for at least a year now and saw this and had the same reaction as the guy who commented here especially with all the provided content others put out on body armor. KEPP MAKING VIDEOS, WE LOVE THEM. Just… come back to us. PS.. Don’t strap the armor to Sparky

Why not both?!
Ceramic is getting very affordable. The only sense I see in owning steel is that you can use that for training and backup.
