Clip from upcoming dvd "Wayne's World" a Vizual production. Wayne is frustrated at the lack of work ethic in new rappers today, in his own camp and in general.
it's crazy how ppl hate Wayne so much, even tho he had the greatest work ethic of any rapper in his prime and single-handedly carried the traditional concept of "lyricism" (dope bars, metaphors, rhyme schemes, etc.) in mainstream hip-hop for 3+ years.
Yeah, but you have to put out a lot of material, regardless of whether it is good or not. Better to have mediocre work that you can improve, than to have nothing.
This was when Wayne was at his peak he was on top of the game at that point everybody wanted a feature from him and whoever had him on his single or album it will go gold.
This is some real shit. Finally somebody in this game want it. He appreciates the money his fans put up and is workin HARD for it. I feel that. He can keep taking my money with an attitude like that. Yeap Cash Money is bout to take it this year!
Real shit people always talking but never really about what they talking about I say let your work speak for itself talk is cheap unless you really doing it practice what you preach
Hello. Can you translate "I ain't goin' to the studio until I got a situation. A subject, I need a beat, I need the producer. Who gonna be on the hook? Man, what is you doin'? Go in the studio with fuckin' clips, clips, ammo!" SITUATION means "idea"? And what means clips and ammo in this context. And what's going on in Wayne speech in this video in simple english, thank you in advance.
+tomojczas thats just how lil wayne speaks if he's been smoking a lot recently. Situation is meant to imply atmosphere and vibe. A lot of rappers wont go in the studio unless they have weed, liquor, women etc. Lil Wayne doesn't need all of that to just rap. A very common metaphore in hip-hop is that your voice and words act as your lyrical weapon similar to the bible often being referenced as the sword. So he means just go in there with very good lyrics and the rest will take care of itself. I hope that helped.
5 years late but Chaz wrong about situation meaning because Wayne is quoting a hypothetical rapper in that instant. The hypothetical rapper is saying he can’t go to the studio with out a whole song planned. He than later explains what the situation is a beat a producer a written etc. Wayne implying he goes into the studio with no expectations and Chaz was right about the Ammo part.
he's not saying that it's right for them to get writers; he said that they're JUST a pretty face. NOBODY has an excuse to have a ghostwriter, even if you admit it.
but your making my point we need both kinds of rappers we need mcs like wayne, dipset, cassidy, ludacris, fabolous just as much as we need nas, common, lupe fiasco, talib quali you gotta have a balance neither is better than the other it all depends upon your taste in music everyone doesnt wanna hear nas people like different stuff if u dont like wayne go to nas if u dont like nas go to wayne its simple as that and thats what makes hip hop so beutiful u have a diverse selection of mcs
And yes he is talking about the work ethic of singers compared to the "new" rappers. He's saying how rappers are acting like singers as far as not working and writing their own lyrics, they are sitting around waiting for their lyrics to be written, before they go into the studio.
He makes a really good point. I have no idea how you can be a singer nowadays and not write your own songs?? or even sing well?? wtf is your purpose then? just to look cute
This is exactly the type of mind-set Wayne's got back now. Now that he's done time and sobered up, he's getting back to rapping and working, work work work. He drank too much syrup and came up with Rebirth which was a lil mistake, but once Tha Carter 4 drops I can't wait to see all the bandwagon jumpers hop right on back!

He's saying new rappers fucking up the game because they are singing.. Didn't he just say he was on 2 r&b tracks with Shikira and Beyonce that day..? Do the hook for Fat Joe on Make it Rain..
well im not sure that lil wayne fans are mostly black but i do know that he has fans around the world there was this girl i saw on youtube with this british accent
Every time people rant and rave about Kendrick I always think about this. I always said he don’t REALLY do it. This is Kendrick Lamar to a tee why I’ll never quite put him at #1, he creates his rap like R&B singers create their music. For perspective Kendrick and Beyoncé have a similar release pattern AND even she drops more consistently and is working. Can’t give him that status when the notable GOATS before him always were rapping. If Kendrick had Wayne’s work ethic to pair with his skills and art then I d understand but he doesn’t, the GOAT said you ain’t really doing it if you gotta wait on inspiration and a concept and a subject… dude just rap your a** off. This mentality along with skill is why I could never quite place Dot over Wayne or the other GOATS, they never left the culture completely dry nor did they use exclusivity marketing tactics to appear hotter than they were. I mean HOV dropped his classic debut album ‘Reasinable Doubt’ in 1996, then dropped an album in 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003 then 2006 that’s consistent AF, Wayne was dropping classic tapes in between albums while giving fire features in between for like 6-7 years straight in his prime, how did the culture accept Kendrick’s bare minimum work effort is crazy to me when standards have been set.
lil wayne is not just a llolipop rapper your judging waynen off 1 DAMN SONG what about the mixtapes and carter 1,2 and 3????? yes nas is a legend but so is wayne nas is an old legend waynes a legend in the making

Now is the GOAT
