- It's a throwback kind of day, with me running in Mizuno for the first time in 10 years. Plus, I go over a couple of pairs of shorts that are of a type that I haven't run in for over 20 years. The shoes are the Peachtree edition of the Mizuno Wave Rider 23, and the shorts are all sorts of magnificent. If you want to see me do a 10k time trial in full Mizuno Peachtree kit, including the patriotic 2" short, hit that like button. If we get to 500 likes, it's on.

Great to see the Mizuno Wave Rider featured, I feel like it's an overlooked shoe. Has been a trusty daily trainer for me going back to version 12, I currently have a knit upper one which I rotate with faster Nike shoes. I find it to be a shoe which gets more comfortable deep into long runs, maybe because of the ankle support you describe. I can also midfoot strike in it when needed even though the design is ostensibly for heel strikers. I can confirm its durability too -- both the foam and the rubber keep going well upwards of 500 miles.
+1 props to @kofuzi for not going for view count and doing reviews of other shoe companies.
I am running with Mizuno Wave Rider 23 for 4 months (more than 400 miles) and they are great as everyday running shoe but also for speed workout on the track or easy long run. I run in Wave Riders since 2012 (15th edition) and I love them.

People love to dog on Mizuno because they stay consistent year to year, but that’s why a ton of us love them. They certainly aren’t super cushioned, but I love the Inspires. If you like cushion - go with the Waveknit Sky 3
I did a 10k time trial last Wednesday in 41:38. With those shorts you will certainly beat that time.

Look forward to your full review on this shoe after a 100 miles. I’ve bought the Rider several times over the past few years and every version seems to be lacking in cushioning in the forefoot. While they have a soft feel upon step-in because of the ultra plush insole, they feel too firm in the forefoot on the run. Otherwise I really like everything else about this shoe. Thank you for your reviews!
I love the look of all that kit, Michael. I am a modest man as well, so here's what I do: I like to wear some split shorts over the top of my compression. I prefer compression, but I like to have a cover up and some split shorts work well for that. I just cut out liners on the splits.
I really like the wave rider23, it'll break in for you after another run or 2.
So glad you mentioned the right forefoot pain. I'm 230 miles into mine and my forefoot is really hurting

I haven't picked up a pair of 23s yet, but I've gone through 2 pairs each of the 20, 21, and 22. They're a fantastic daily trainer. Not as flashy as some of the other options but a solid performer, firm yet still fairly cushioned, long lasting, tons of outsole tread for a road shoe, and quite versatile. Have run several marathons in them as well as doing most of my training in them. The major downside compared some other shoes is that the Mizunos take a few runs to break in, 12mm drop isn't for everyone, and they don't have much forefoot cushioning compared to the recent max cushion, low-medium drop trend. Anyone who likes the Pegasus as a daily trainer will probably like the Mizunos also, on the other hand if your preferred daily trainer is something like a Clifton then the Mizunos are probably not for you.
We're talking of a huge breaking period, it took me well over 100 k to run in them with a smile on my face, I've got over 200 at the moment and I can say I like them a lot, they're much softer, quieter, lighter feeling and faster now, remaining one of the best shock absorbing pair of shoes I ever owned, ideal for running on pavement.
Having no doubt they will last forever (definitely another 600-700 k) I can forgive the very long breaking period.

Thanks for the video! One time 6/7 years ago I think before model 20 this shoe was really responsive and good for fast races, now there is more cushioning in the heel and personally I wouldn’t use them anymore for races, just for slow run training. Ciao kofuzi 😃👋

Absolutely loving those 2inch shorts and that racing vest! Less so the 10 inch ones, though with my compression socks I guess I wouldn't need any sun tan lotion on my legs! I think there those 500 likes will come up very quickly!

I still wear 10 inch shorts as my pajamas. As for the 2 inch shorts, people in the US will likely give you a strange look, but in Asia I think it’s pretty normal.
Like the short-shorts..on a 90 deg day with 90 % humidity they are a blessing tho will share your runners tan..lol..I when I look back at using the mizuno it's hard believe my feet were ever that hardened

The Peachtree what? Sounds like an organized water gun fight. All I know, is the summer of Grit is comin'. Mine starts on opening day, yee yee. And dude, I just ordered a bunch of 2" shorts. I'm switching to that size for the summer. It's the only way to go.

I have Wave 23. Needs more padding on midfoot area. Good shoe as it's very light but recommend you test at a tempo level. Good shoe for going fast but needs forefoot padding to be fixed in next edition.Yup I guess your going to time trial now !
They've been listening! Rider 24 has a new, softer foam replacing U4icX that runs further into the midfoot and it's a decent chunk lighter :)
man, you look like you're doing a lot of soft running on that loose gravel or dirt surface. As for the short shorts, what you worried about? It's not like you're super tall (under 5'10, I believe). When you do complete that 10k time trail in those tiny shorts, you should comment on the Strava post "Eat this Seth DeMoor, tiny shorts guy!"

Hey, had a quick unrelated question! I'm just about to retire my first Rincons, which I love, and I'm moving to a 2-3 shoe rotation going forward. Goals: under 20-min 5k and first marathon. MPW: 30-35. 5'7 145 lbs. I like light shoes with a low drop so the Rincons worked great for me, but I'm also trying to branch out and vary the kind of shoe I use from run to run. I'm thinking of going with a Rincon/Zoom Flyknit/Air Pegasus 36 combo. Do you have thoughts? Thanks, really appreciate it.
The Rincon is a fast shoe, they can definitely do a 20 minute 5k pace. So if anything I'd recommend a softer shoe such as a Hoka Clifton, New Balance 1080, or one of the Nike React models to complement the Rincons.

I think the higher heel drop and the rigidity of the ankle area. I spent most of the time trying to find a rhythm. It would come and go

@@kofuzi I think my intended point was that Mizuno running shoes are over-engineered in my humble opinion unless you're buying baseball cleats or possibly soccer shoes I find their running game a little too heavy on the technological side. Furthermore I don't feel the running game is where Mizuno shines and they should probably leave that to The Experts.

Mizuno: desperately clinging onto overmarketed technology that has never shown any promise. The wave thing just adds tons of unnecessary weight. Also their heel to toe drops are just atrocious.
It was less about a year ago that I was saying the exact same thing for Asics. But they’ve made some great changes in the last year. I’m hoping they can follow a similar trend
