How to build PATIENCE for painting DETAILS Procreate Painting Process
Вставка
- Опубліковано 26 лип 2024
- This is my process for creating an illustration that takes a lot of time and patience. Details are a big part of it but the mindset is what really matters to enjoy the time it takes to paint something like this. Painted on an iPad pro.

My goal is to develop my creativity and imagination to be like yours.
Your imagination will always be exclusive to you only and that’s a great thing for all the rest of us.
@@angrymikko my goal is to piggyback on Megan’s creativity and be like hers. 😁
👍🏻
your paintings come together like a sculpture. You practically carve out the picture out of the colors you put down, and it's so interesting to watch these blobs turn to a fully realized environment
I had a thought while listening to this, that i wish you were the person who taught me art formally. And yet, i feel so blessed to get to experience these lessons through these videos. Thank you so much for creating this space, for making these videos, and sharing such raw and honest truths
I'm thinking of making more technique focused tutorials for my gumroad, but I'm still thinking of different ways I could help people to actually learn painting through learning materials rather than just watching me paint.
UA-cam is good for quick tutorials and I'm going to keep making them for free but the new changes google has made makes sequential content almost impossible to make (I'm lucky because gaming channels are seeing their watch sessions completely fall apart due to that) and when I consider how long it takes to edit one hour of video it just wouldn't make sense to me at this point. Another aspect is the way people use this platform. 100% of the questions in my pixel art tutorial were answered in that same video. If they were watching the video outside of the platform I'm sure they wouldn't have been so impatient with the process.
My favorite part of the painting process is when everything is chaos and undecided; when the possibilities are endless. I love just experimenting and picking colors almost at random to see what works. Then I watch an image emerge from this chaos and that is very satisfying. Once I've published the piece, I slowly start to dislike it more and more, because now I am seeing it from the other side: I only see what's wrong with it, instead of what's right. I think that indulging these feelings of shame, as you rightfully call them, makes it harder and harder to keep going, because I am too focused on the end result even while painting.
Thanks so much for posting this video, I think I really needed to hear these words.
Thank you for everything! I'll try to adopt this mindset
This is exactly what my art needs atm, more patience and details. Thank you!
This is so amazing i love your style super inspiring and motivating! Thank you for the content!
Absolutely Amazing video I enjoyed every second of it and will apply everything into my own work!
This came out great! I love big art projects they are so rewarding! Keep it up!!!
WOW, just wow. I love the feeling of this paining . Thank you for sharing your process.
Binging through your content right now , its very helpful !! I'm so glad I discovered you ! 💞
AMAZING, thanks to YT for discovering me this great channel. You're very talented
I just binge-watched your videos, now I have new stuff to watch :D
I admire your style (sometimes I feel like I'm not sensitive enough to truly understand your paintings, but sometimes they really resonate) and in just a few months I'm gonna have enough money for an iPad, I'm already looking forward to put the things that you teach us into practise.
I love how you equate the time drawing to actually being there. Enjoying it as if it were a tangible experience.
is watching illustrations like this one get made that inspire me immensely! both in just life in general but mostly in continuing with my art myself! (the talk is a huge add on to that!)
Looking forward to your art, can't wait to purchase your prints and bring my walls to life :D !!
Not being linear is so true! I started out working more linear from watching videos but learned that having a good process is much more important so you can adjust things while you go and feel more confident to go back
Superb advice! Thank you so very much!! Your painting is AMAZING.
I've watched so many artists and you are the first one who gave me this kind of advice I truly took to myself and I know now what I was doing wrong, Thank you so much!!! I'm so happy I found your channel
Amazing great teacher pulling out the talents of each artist you teach
Live your work and the things you say! Subscribed
Great work & tips! 👍
dude to say i cried listening to this !!! thank you so much for those nuggets of wisdom they were much needed
I absolutely loving this way of looking at art. Like getting an idea means you have an obligation to the universe to make it real. I am definitely gonna keep this in mind and write it down somewhere where I’ll definitely see it because I’ve given up on too many good ideas already. Feeling very motivated atm to go back to finish some old projects I gave up on. Thank you!
many gave me the advice to finish the painting, the idea that I started. But the way you did really hit me ^^ yeah I should totally respect my creativity
Thank you for this
You have reinvigorated my passion to paint again. I always thought landscape/concept art work would be boring and not worth learning (I come from mostly portraits. After watching just one of your beautiful live drawings I was hooked. Every time I get mentally blocked I watch one of you vids and become inspired thank you for your work. I would love to take one of your classes
I’m glad i found this video. I subscribed to your channel because you have so much passion on what you are doing.
Another fantastic video, Mikko. Such a fantastic speaker. Your knowledge shines through. The only person I can watch where I don’t want to lob my iPad or trash my paints. I just know I’ll get my painting back when I watch these videos of yours. Thank you.
Wow! I love that your paintings are all in another world that is how I see them anyway. That's the best thing about art is that you can live in any world you like and your paintings are by far the best expression of that idea.
I do so love watching your videos and listening to your motivational monologues. Great art and Great thoughts.
I think you touched on some very good points......esp that a piece is constantly evolving as you work through it & that details are not as important as structure, lighting & a good read. You have a good way of getting information across & your work is really beautiful.
Very interesting exploration of the psychological ups and downs of the painting process and the emotional commitment involved. 👍✌🏻⭐️
I'm only 9 min in and I love your way of thinking! Refreshing perspective- I've never thought about it that way before. I'm probably the worst offender of losing my patience over a painting. Thank you for this!
NICE PAINT WORK 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾
Love your work
Your process is so satisfying to watch, but also looks...bold? Idk but I really enjoy it !
i really enjoy so many points you discussed!!!
I have been watching your videos since i got an iPad and I love love loveeeee your energy and way of explaining. Hope I will get much better with procreate soon thanks to you. Big love n hugs from Istanbul!!!
Gave me goosebumps. and a few tears. Amazing content!
You have a beautiful soul, thanks so much for sharing your creative process.
Thank you for condensing 2 years of classes I actually had trouble grasping into one video. You've helped me to try again ❤
This is amazing!
Thank you.
This is very inspiring. I'm on the verge of quitting. And it's a frequent idea.
Thank you for your passion and not quitting to get this idea across. I often get ideas but gets really frustrated when my skill can't catch up. I needed this motivation.
Thank you so much. You are a blessing. ☺️
that is insane, the creativity
Wise and skilled. Thank you.💐
Omg THANK YOU for your take on formulaic work, as someone new to painting and Procreate,
I have always drawn for myself randomly and found that process relaxing. Now im learning new techniques and have spent
a few hours watching these formulaic videos... I will no longer, and start more so looking for pure inspiration from others.
This drawing is absolutely gorgeous! 😍😍😍
This is amazing piece 😍
Amaaaazing work man 🤩
I‘m struggling with letting go of reference images. How do you only use your imagination? Great vid!
Use references whenever you need them to get your message across but never let them to take over what you want to say. Find what your artwork is about and then make that a priority.
References and 3d models are just scaffolding for the building you’re making. They’re not the house.
I used to have this problem. I only used references and drawing from something formed by my imagination seemed impossible. The way I solved this, is I slowly let go of the references. Little by little I used less references.what I mean is, I still used the reference but I gave it something that I came up with. Once I was confident in my abilities and in my imagination. Now I still use references for scaffolding if the artwork is complicated but I am much more confident my imagination now. Hope this helps you out! 😁🌸
hey, man! thank you for this video!
and thank you for your wise words.
you always inspire me to keep painting and keep trying, so i just wanted to say thank you :)
wow i love your style im so looking forward learning painting such inspiring youtuber i love it
Over half my work is unfinished; thank you for giving me a kick in the ass. Keep doing your amazing work!
Beautiful!!!!!!!! Awesome
You should write a book about this or make this a series. You see so much about mindset in daily life, work, sports but never about art. And art is so important. I love your perspectives!
I’d like to say “you had me at Brain Trash”, and I sub’d! I also relate to your method of work, I enjoy painting this way because for me, it’s more freestyle, creative, and fun. The details just come through the process of not being stiff and bored because you enjoy building the painting freely. IDK if that makes sense, but you Sir, are on point! I truly loved listening to your commentary and really liked how the video was shot. Thank you, I’d like to book a reservation on your habitat in the sky!
Amazing, its very interesting that you painted something you would like to experience yourself🤔 Never thought about it that way👏🏼👏🏼keep it UP🙏🏼
Loved this ❤️
This video is a breath of fresh air and I feel I have learned more about the relationship I have with my creativity here, than in the last year of serious dedication to my art. Thank you I will never slack on my responsibilities as an artist and creator ever again.
It really is beautiful and inspiring on many levels🌈💖🌟
Thank you so much 🥰🌠💗
Thank you for sharing this! What a wonderful painting. I like the concept of brain trash too- something I really struggle to get rid of!
Drawing is meditation, thank you for sharing.
Woooowooo I am loving it
Beautiful explanation and very motivational.
Oh. My. Gawd. Beautiful!
Thank you so much! beautiful
Watching you paint is so therapeutic.
No words... just Amazing!
Love the point of view that "You're the only one this idea can come through. This is your task to make it real"
Fantastic way of seeing it !
great video, thanks for it
Damn😐 those little details respect!!
I don't even paint, I just like art. Somehow this was so relaxing.
That’s awesome to hear. Sorry about the audio. Back when I made this video I didn’t know how to adjust for headroom on the microphone yet. Newer ones shouldn’t have this problem ☝️
This is beautiful
Finally on time to one of you're uploads. Love your videos and Livestream so much! ❤️I take notes all the time
Thanks for seeing my livestreams. I’m pretty excited about the recent changes to the stream and I’m sure there’s still a lot to learn on how all that stuff works :)
@@angrymikko Everyday we learn something new! Can't wait to draw along during your next one. Thank you for all the great artwork and advice. They've been extremely helpful.
I sure learned a lot from you creative process!
Excellent work‼︎ Thanks for sharing‼︎
Your insights are much appreciated. Kiitos. Jukka, Finn-Australian.
Thank you so much for mentioning that step thing. Some artists only show the pretty side of their art process but not how the ugly phase takes the most time. It gives me the wrong idea that my painting has to be perfect from the beginning which is impossible and leads to frustration
Step by step tutorials is just stupid. There is no steps, but there's a proccess for each person and people find that jard to put in words so they just use that methods. I suggest that they just don't do it tbh, it's not as helpful as they hopes it would be, it confuses people who genuinely want to learn.
wohooo today's content!
wow, what a breathtaking piece of art !
Thank you 🐝
I needed to hear this bless you sir
Brilliant Mikko
I just recently started procreate and it’s been frustrating moving from paper drawing to digital drawing but watching and listening to you has given me hope that I can do anything if I put my mind to it
Same! The thing I struggle with the most in making the switch to digital is I find I have no qualms abandoning a piece bc all that was invested was my time. Good luck!
I'm so in love with your art and your way of expressing the Beauty! Thank you for sharing it with us. Keep going and best wishes to you as an Artist and as a Person! You're a muse for all of us :)
I’m not fit to be a muse. I mean really doesn’t that job require a mermaid outfit or something 🧐
You are an amazing teacher
Oh my glooooob ! It was so amazing! Thank you for inspiration I will save money and hopefully take your classes. All my love. Also I didn’t tag you on IG cuz my works are dark horror but by your brushes but I know how you don’t like military horror things haha. I really want start paint bright positive works. Oh well.
I heard ‘trying’ as ‘crying’ LOL I am sure there is a lot of both! Beautiful art!
The Idea came to you so its your Job (15:20) ... Thats the best thing ive heard all day 😳
Agreed!
I’m doing a natural history illustration course atm, and it’s really opened my eyes to the fact that I need to practice better patience with my drawing process! I had to draw a landscape, and it took me over 5 hours! I hated the process and the finished result, and I think this is because I’ve grown too used to the convenience of digital art. This video couldn’t have been more perfectly timed, thanks Mikko! ❤️
5hours to me would feel like an amazing slam dunk of an illustration where everything went right and no strange detours were taken >__> (and yes after every livestream I feel like slumping on the bathroom floor amazed that all that happened in 1-2hours XD)
angrymikko 5 hours on a simple landscape that doesn’t even look anywhere near what you want it to look like is just SUPER frustrating though! I was so angry at myself for neglecting my traditional pencil skills all these years 😭 I honestly can’t believe how much you accomplish in 1-2 hour live-streams! You must feel really hyped after you finish one hahaha 😃💃🏻🕺🏼
BEAUTIFUL
Ojala alcance este nivel de dibujo, estoy a meses de coger el ipad y el procreate, eres unico dibujando, no dejes de dibujar y sonprendernos💝
Love your positivity. =)
This was an art therapy session
U r an inspiration.. Gets a lot to learn.
I love getting to spend a little time in your mind when you upload and the painting turned out amazing!
Just a bit sad that it’s done \o/ I can do more flying gardens, can’t I?
angrymikko I’ll be here for it if ya do haha
I’ll just use that as my permit slip when I need one ☝️
This looks so dope. All of your artwork makes me wish I were there even if it isn’t real.
Beautiful
I thought you said ‘crying and crying again and again’ and I was like Yasss! That’s meeee, then realised you said trying lol 😂 still me, but not as passionate 😂
I know what you mean but if I told people to sob uncontrollably next to their paintings, that would probably not be helpful in getting those big projects finished 🧐
angrymikko probably not 😂 I love your positivity by the way. I’ve only recently found your channel and this video has put a lot of things into perspective for me and given me inspiration and new ways of thinking 😊
So amazing
wowww ❤️❤️❤️
so beautiful ❤️
