    Caddie Doug has the laser eyes. My God his reads probably took 4 strokes off the card at least.
    Course looks beautiful.

    And not a comment not replied to - no one deserves your success both on the golf course and online as much as you. I like to think I've been around since the start of the channel and have only seen both you and the videos improve immeasurably, we are all incredibly fortunate to have you on here. Well played Adam!

    Holy crap what a difference Doug makes, his knowledge takes the guess work out of each shot so you can just concentrate on doing what he says. Playing with a clear mind is one of the most difficult thing for high handicap golfers as the confidence is not there yet.

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  Рік тому +1

      Agreed! That round is easily half a dozen strokes worse or more without Doug.

    Man your driver was HOT in that second round.
    Keen to know what you've been working on to get so much more distance recently, it's night and day!

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  Рік тому

      Thank you!
      My driver has really run hot and cold for a while now. This round was actually recorded almost a full year ago, and since then my driver has gotten cold and then hot again.
      I actually don't think I gained meaningful distance until about a month or two ago (a better fit driver helped), it's just that the rollout in August on a links course (like in this video) compared to Vancouver golf in the Winter (where it's cold and soft) are drastically different. If I go into a simulator and hit a good drive, it carries 230-240. So, in Vancouver in the Winter, that drive may only carry 220 and roll out to 230, compared to Bandon in the Summer where it carries 240 and rolls out to 270+...

    I don't want to comment on your first caddie, you know haw good or bad he was. I want to comment on your second caddie. What a joy it would be to play Bandon with him! Always encouraging and, like you said, he REALLY knew the course. I've unfortunately had a couple of bad caddies (one who couldn't give me the correct number if his life depended on it), but golf is so much easier when you have a great caddie! Most of us can hit the ball in the direction we want to, but doubt causes us to flinch at impact. Having a great caddie tell you with certainty where to hit it removes that doubt! Great roun, Adam! I'm sure you tipped that caddie well!

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  Рік тому

      I'm with ya! Aside from this trip, I think I've had caddies on 3 or 4 other occasions, and the difference between a bad caddie, a good caddie, and a great caddie is indeed immense. I can't recall who Doug caddied for on tour, and in any event you could just tell immediately that the guy knew the game and - as important - knew that course. I obviously wouldn't have carded that score without him, and believe me he got a healthy tip!!

    Having Doug mentally freed you up to just focus on playing golf and not thinking about your swing mechanics, but just hitting the ball at an intended target. Most of your misses were not far off line. This was such a great video to illustrate what all those golf books talked about (Zen Golf, Elements of Scoring, etc.) mentally where you should be on the golf course. "The golf course is not where you give yourself a lesson" Thanks Adam!

    • @NotAScratchGolfer

    • @NotAScratchGolfer
      @NotAScratchGolfer  Рік тому

      Man, I mentioned this in the video, but after holing out on 9, I really thought I had a chance of going even or under par on the back. I had just wedge in on 18 and thought, "holy crap, I could stick this close and go under par." Then, I pushed it a hair and it got a brutal kick, and suddenly I went from thinking about going 1-under to sweating about not 3-putting and shooting 1-over. Then, the putt REALLY had a chance of going in and suddenly it was "maybe I'll shoot 1-under!" again. A real seesaw of emotion!

    Key stat; 13-18 (72%) GIR. That's scratch level accuracy! Super impressive. Combined with 10/13 fairways hit, that's the formula for low scores. A pleasure to watch, congrats!

    Adam - you should try reading some of Joshua Medcalf's books! He is the club champion at my club (San Diego Country Club), and writes from the perspective of a golfer and a life/mental coach. From Hack to Scratch or Pound The Stone are probably his most relatable books and reflect well on some of the emotions guys like you and I experience on the golf course. I feel like I am improving on my golf journey as you are - taking more club and just going for contact with my irons and wedges as I am knocking on the door of a round in the 70s. Joshua took the same path to become club champ. Thought you might find that shared connection interesting. Awesome to watch you take down Bandon like this!!

    As an 11 handicap, I love watching your vids. It reminds me that low handicaps still have rounds where they don't break 90.
    You've gotta come up with a different name for people who use Swing Tweaks. Tweakers is a term in the US for people who use methamphetamine or crystal meth.

    amazing round Adam - we all need a Doug in our life! Have you been able to replicate the 'focus' or 'flow state' since the trip? Obviously this is something I work on a lot on and off the course, but the ability to dial in after some bad shots is always super tough!

      Thanks Alex! Thankfully, in the last month or so, my driver has done a 180 from the worst club in my bag back to my best (or maybe T-1 with putter). I do feel like I'm sometimes able to walk up to the tee, not think about anything, swing it as hard as I can (not that hard with my physical strength or lack thereof) and send it. So kind of flow state-ish. Wish I could tap into that when it's not going as well.

    What a gorgeous course. Man I'd love to play right on the pacific

      There are just so many iconic courses up and down the west coast. It's possible Pac Dunes is my favorite, but I think that title may still go to Spyglass.

    nice job, i've played pacific and it can be tricky if you put yourself in the wrong spots. Even par is a great accomplishment there!

    Wait are we all going to completely ignore Doug double bagging with a golf bag on each shoulder? what a champ

      Indeed these caddies at Bandon are just incredible. A few of them double bagged two rounds per day with us for 4 or 5 consecutive days. I've never been so happy to pay and tip for a service.

    In my golf buddies trips to Bandon Dunes, Whistling Straits, Ireland, Scotland and Dominican Republic we had a caddie that was really helpful in getting the most out of our rounds of golf.

      Those are some great trips! How would you compare them all? All of them (save for the DR) have been on my radar for some time.

      @@NotAScratchGolfer Scotland #1 (played Old Course at Andrews, Royal Troon, Turnbury & Carnoustie), Ireland (played Old Head, Royal County Downs, Lahinch, & Portmarnock), Bandon Dunes and last Whistling Straits (we also played Sand Valley built by Mike Keiser).
