The best Mondays are when we get a new video from NASG! I went out the other day after watching lots of your videos to improve mindsets even during bad rounds, and ended up shooting under 90. Always enjoy your content! BTW, insane putt on the first hole!
Thank you so much. I have no idea how you managed to drop a...tip? I don't know what this feature is even called haha. In any event, that's incredibly kind of you. Thanks for the kind words and the well wishes. Looking forward to healing up and posting more stuff soon :)
great question. I can’t find the exact post, but you shared one of your videos where you go low and share your philosophy, and a lot of the comments just focused on how you don’t have a tik tok perfect swing or accuse you of being a phenomenal up and down player while completely missing the points you were trying to make.
Thank you for always sharing your golf journey with us, Adam. I know I look forward to everyone of your videos. That long putt on the first hole, just phenomenal.
One of the big things I learned is to not have an ego when a playing partner says "I am hitting a 9 iron" and you know you need to hit a 7 but choose to hit a 8 or 9 instead. No one cares what club you hit and the only one judging you is yourself.
Great video today as always. Your stats are always interesting and what complements them is your mindset as you approach your next shot. Always great and something to strive for in my own game. Thanks for posting.
Another great video. Your channel has done wonders for my mental game. A quote I’m trying to repeat often these days is: the next shot can always be the best shot of your day
@@NotAScratchGolfernot until late April at best in the prairies. But I have a Palm Springs trip coming up soon and might do another hot trip in March/April so will add a round or two there.
First time watching your channel, love it!! I was kinda surprised when you went to the sponsor and I realized you were Ben stiller playing golf. Awesome! 😂
Love the approach. 3 doubles and an 80 (8 differential). Good stuff. I need to remind myself that it doesn't take sub 80 every round to get down to an 8 hcp (my goal this year). 🙂
Somebody once told me that when you hit the golf ball it's the end result of everything you've done up to that point. I always thought that was good advice. Also thank you for your videos and I love the fact you play in the Coachella Valley on courses I've been around often. Keep up the good work
Great vid! Just played this course on vacation, nice job parring #18. My tee shot ended up in some water on the right-hand side I didn't know was there. Tougher course than it looks.
Great approach! An 80 with 3 doubles and an 8 differential. I need to remind myself that it doesn't take sub 80 every round to get to an 8 hcp (my goal this year). 🙂
One of my favorite quotes, which I first heard from a Vsauce video, goes as follows: "Stuff in your past is like a carving on the bark of a sapling. Over time, the scar, the carving, won't go away. Because of the way trees grow, it won't go up or down much either, it'll just stay right where it began, it might even get darker. But it won't get bigger. You, however, can; you can keep growing, doing more things, more branches, being more things. The wound won't get smaller, but you can make it a smaller part of who you are. Maybe regrets are like that. They stick around forever, like Arborglyphs...". Personally, I try to keep this in the back of my mind while playing golf. Each individual shot is just a part of who we are, and at the end of the day, one bad shot is only one of hundreds of thousands we will make in our lifetime. All we can do is accept it and enjoy the process. Nice video!
Your "if" score was really good. 76 if hit the good ones first on the par 3's. Could have had a couple more putts go for 74. To be fair, first hole could have missed = 75. 😊 Point being, was a very good day and not far at all from being a phenomenal round. Excellent demonstration of not letting a few shots ruin your day. I try to remind myself that I am not good enough to get angry and even if I was...it doesn't do any good -- with the exception of a walloped drive occasionally -- which is more than offset by the more likely near complete miss.
Hey Adam, great video! Wondering if you have any tips for keeping a productive mindset when you are having an uncharacteristically good round through a few holes? I tend to have a lot of nerves about messing up a solid round with a blowup hole. Thanks!
Haha this is a circumstance I don't face often :p I've played enough golf to know that being even thru 15 or 3-over thru 4 doesn't really matter. I was 3-over thru 4 in my best round ever. And I've shot in the 90s after being even thru 9. So, my general strategy is to just keep playing golf, treating each shot independently, etc. The scores will manifest as they will.
When you shank it, it appears that you are transferring your weight onto your left toes. When you do that, you change your swing plane and the hozel gets closer to the ball. The frame where you strike the ball at 12:24, you'll notice that your left toes don't come off the ground until well after impact. Compare to the frame at 12:47 (second attempt) and you'll see that your toes lift about half second earlier. Practice and warm up with some meaningful swings where you feel that weight mid foot early. Enjoy the free "swing tweak"!
Appreciate the feedback, but I'm failing to see the difference (screenshots below). Can you clarify? Swing 1: imgur.com/1Clh0oS Swing 2: imgur.com/hVNDBiJ
@@NotAScratchGolfer On the second swing, your left toes start coming off the ground with your club head about knee height on the follow through. On the first swing, your toes don't get to the same position until your club is shoulder height. We're talking about things happening over milliseconds, plus camera recording versus the YT rendering. That being said, the delay on the toes coming off the ground means too much weight is too far forward, leading to your hands moving closer to the ball and then shanks. I had this same issue in my golf game once. Took me forever to figure out. As soon as I worked on it, it went away. Only happens now if I get over tired during a club fitting (lots of swings happening quickly between shots) and once in a while on the range.
@@NotAScratchGolfer Yeah hard for me to see that as well. However, you can tell the difference in the video of how you get your left side out of the way and rotate better on the good one.
Great playing Adam! If there's such a thing as a good double, you had two of them with those par threes where you shanked it. While working at a place called Garland Lodge and Golf Resort in Lewiston, Michigan this past summer, I worked for a PGA pro by the name of Matt McArdle, who used to work at this course you just played.
@ Ain’t that the truth. Also, I broke even par for the first time this year. I shot a 69 on a par 70 (67.3 Rating/120 Slope) not a super hard course but it was mid-November and it was super cold.
Just come across this guy ... read quite few comments ...... Good luck
Thanks man. I do ignore the negative. Just wish more aspiring golfers would ignore the swing stuff, too. I mean, sure, you need a functional golf swing, but I feel like too many golfers are trying to play golf swing rather than golf...Appreciate the kind words!!

Adam, I'd love to know your shots gained numbers for putting. After watching a bunch of your videos it seems clear that you probably gain 4-8 shots a round from putting. I agree with all your advice but it might end in frustration for those who don't putt like a scratch golfer or better.
You’ve got to be in a good frame of mind; it’s the most important part of the game. EDIT: Wet and cold??? Bro, you’ve been touring out of the NW for FAR to long haha!
The desert gets shockingly cold at night/early-morning in the Winter. Lots of frost delays. I think we teed off in ~40-45° and it was indeed wet out there.
a lot of your misses is the ball going bit too far left because of your natural draw hit. i would say especially on approach shots start aiming just a little more right of your target because so many of your shots are going a little left of target. and definitely practice more long and very long putts. also you love the hybrid i would recommend getting another hybrid even higher loft for the 160 to 170 shots perhaps.
Funny you mention this, I've been eying a 29° hybrid to replace my 6 iron. My fear is that it'd be a left machine. Need to get one in hand and try it out.
Funny you ask. We were supposed to be the first group out. They let another group out in front of us and they were 2.5 hours on the front 9 :'( The marshal split them up into two twosomes on the back. Great track!!

The ability to strike it well immediately after a shank....twice!....is impressive. First shot after a shank is usually a fat 40-yard toe hook.
