She's definitely one of America's best ever singer / songwriters, and sadly underrated. I really liked LATE DECEMBER - it was straightforward melodic rock, and her voice really shined on it, especially her own long awaited version of "A Good Heart".
She played a frankly amazing set in Dublin last night Acoustic and she played 'Show Me Heaven' on solo guitar and it was breath-taking But 'Wheels' on piano was one that totally blew everyone away Her voice and songwriting as powerful, affecting and wonderful as ever I adore the two Lone Justice albums, having got them when they came out Her first solo record was, and is, fantastic as are her later releases So much amazing music and a wonderfully gifted singer/songwriter/actress - she's brilliant
Thank you Maria for being the fighter that you are for changing the lyrics making it the wonderful song that it is now! I just love this song so so much!
This is great.Picture Ms. Mckee, unknown in USA, going out on Americas Got Talent and just throwing down on an unsuspecting audience. She could do almost any of the Lone Justice stuff that few have heard of and just take the roof off the place. She hasn't lost a thing and would be a total wonder all these years past a career that was, or should have been one of the biggest in the business. Thanks for keeping us updated.
Well, I miss Lone justice, but I'm glad she's happy exploring her Cinematic / Production side :) "I Found Love" is STILL one of the best songs in the '80s !
To be honest, i think she was better than what this very restricted and narrow focussed interview allowed. Give me a long-form podcast with her over this anyday. How can someone be expected to sum up their life's work in 30 seconds.
Postscript - It's truly sad that we ( USA ) embrace no-talents like Taylor Swift, but we have a tremendously talented, fiery, passionate SINGER who's career lasted about 4 seconds. On a related note, it's also sad how Europe and Japan truly embrace and revere OUR Jazz and Blues Musicians, but America is more and more driven by Pop Idols and one-hit-wonders.
Great to get an update on what Maria's been up to. Since Lone Justice, she's just been a favorite. I do agree that it's a shame she may be best known for a song like "Show Me Heaven", though it's great to hear she did at least put her spin on it, and save it from an absolute-crap song - even though, with her voice, it probably would have still been pleasant. A favorite of mine: "Breathe" from her eponymous record - mainly because of Richard Thompson's accompaniment. What a great track, and typically sparse cord-playing by RT. Amazing.
Are power ballads missing from films? Oh please! That's like asking if the environment is missing acid rain. "You Are the Light" is a beautiful song that quietly does what the power ballads never achieve, which is genuine emotion. That's why I'll take Dolly Parton's original version of "I Will Always Love You" over Whitney Houston's, even though Whitney's voice was gorgeous.
Okay, I get that she has to use this pop song to get interviews so she can push her current projects. But of all the great songs she's recorded, this isn't even at the top of my list.
I didn't know she was supportive to the LGBT people. Then I heard she came out as a pansexual. I had to look that up. I love her but disagree with her outlook on what's right and wrong. I wish her all the best.
The monologue introducing her was garbage . Lone Justice should have been one of the biggest acts of the 80s but were ruined by the record label Geffen .
Maria McKee still so beautiful. Fantastic music of one lifetime.
Pffft the song overshadowed the movie by a country mile!
Thanks Maria. What a voice.
It's amazing that this song is so iconic in the UK but basically unknown in the US.
She's definitely one of America's best ever singer / songwriters, and sadly underrated. I really liked LATE DECEMBER - it was straightforward melodic rock, and her voice really shined on it, especially her own long awaited version of "A Good Heart".
Maria has had an incredible career and life. Such a smart, beautiful and talented artist.
Great, down to earth, intelligent, nice person. Wish there were more of them in the world.

Missed that. Where did she play?
Awesome. To see and hear Maria and to do that in Dublin. Sounds 'Heaven like' to me! 👍
was fortunate to see Lone Justice perform on New Year's decades ago, front row, it was, she was awesome.
We love your Maria! Your music is amazing and you look as beautiful as ever.
Such a great interview! Love seeing what Maria McKee is up to! She looks and sounds amazing!!
Panic Beach, brings a tear to my eye, every time. Thank You Maria!
City Picker my fav m.mckee song. My daughter was into theater and I made her listen to it.
I feel the same about panic beach. It is an amazing song.
That song brings a tear to my eye
I had a major musical crush on Maria when I was about 19. That post punk alt-country band was fire.
"I'm gonna soothe you", loved that song.
She still sings and looks great at age 52.
DAMN RIGHT! Hope it's natural.
Thank you Maria for being the fighter that you are for changing the lyrics making it the wonderful song that it is now! I just love this song so so much!
Thanks for posting this. Yeah, I wish Maria would return to the post Punk, Alternative Country stuff. Indeed.
Maria❤

Used to play a lot of her stuff from Lone Justice in the mid-80's here in the US a lot of my friends wonder who she was! She could do it all!
With all her great records and song, it is sad that she is still known for Show Me Heaven
Well, Todd, everybody has favorites!
I think what Todd is saying is this mainstream ballad isn’t representative of her true genius
At least in the UK she's known for something. Here in the states she's virtually invisible.
Thank you for this information ! Maria McKee changed original lyrics 👍 We have something in common : changing things to become better !
Awesome interview wow she’s wonderful ❤️💛💚👑
Saw her with Lone Justice in their early days. Mesmerizing music.
Still a beautiful girl.
lone justice rules......sweet sweet baby
Maria Mckee you is the best,I love You !!!
First saw her sing “Shelter” live on Saturday night live. Awesome!
Wow, I didn't know Maria was doing films now. Must check it out. Her voice was one of my earliest singing inspirations.
Love you Maria!
Amazing artist.
I love Maria McKee.
I 😍 this song. I have the 7" vinyl single. I'll never part with it. Maria looks fabulous.
Just listened to the debut Lone Justice lately. Such an assured and confident voice at such a young age. Sure puts Adele in perspective.
Love you Maria ❤️
Show Me Heaven was/Is one of my favourite songs of all time but I have to be honest, I never heard of her again after that.
Well, I miss Lone justice, but I'm glad she's happy exploring her Cinematic / Production side :) "I Found Love" is STILL one of the best songs in the '80s !
anyone can "explore their cinematic side": check out RedMoWarrior - she's a motorcycle mechanic in Romania, and got 500 subscribers on UA-cam
btw WE LOVE YOU MARIAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Sounds like they wanted Maria to sing like Bananarama :) Secret fire, take me higher, your desire...
omg, this incredible singer i was in love when i was young reduce to 'voice' of a fckin movie. They dont deserve her. Ave maria
Maria McKee still looks gorgeous.
Still a big fan of the old Lone Justice songs!

Highly reminiscent ofthe young Grace Slick!
Maria could have been the biggest pop diva of the 20th century - instead she chose a different path and we are all the richer for it.

and it will keep getting worse due to demographic change in North America: in 2005 in L.A. Unified School District only 9% of students were white
Just a silly statement. Both are talented. You don't have to knock anyone down to build someone up.
the songs a lot better than the film

I love that she's LGBT-friendly. Have loved her since the first Lone Justice record.
It's mandatory
24hrs?! TALENT!
Lone Justice Reunion!!!!
i remembr 'SHOW ME HEAVEN'
Maria, things are going real good for you! Epic!! Look, if stuff takes a down turn, call me... I have a place for you to stay... ;)
Lone Justice! My pretend girlfriend when I was about 12
She looks like Juliette Lewis.
Maria's a good talker too, says some interesting things...check her out on her twitter account twitter.com/realmariamckee

Of course not. It's pop schmaltz. Absolutely awful
show me heaven? with all her body of work it's ridiculos speaking again of that song....
Post Punk or the return of Post Punk!
C-A-C-T-U-S R-O-S-E ,1984,Mtv LJ ptofile clip...yer welcum 😎
Sorry, "Show Me Heaven" .....
