- We know songwriter and singer Maria McKee mostly from her song 'Show me heaven', but she also wrote 'A Good Heart' which was a big hit for Feargal Sharkey.
A short documentary by Top 2000 a gogo from 2023 (Dutch Public Television).
Feargal Sharkey absolutely nailed that song. 10/10
for sure....his will be hard to better...
Especially the last verse, his voice is so good there
I know,
I think about it all the time.
Love Maria McKee!! And her work with Lone Justice. Great singer, so distinctive. It's so lovely to see her.
Maria will always be one of the greatest singers of all time.
Ah, that's why she's so famous then ....🤣🤣
Her solo records are magnificent, been listening for 30+ years ❤
So fab to see Maria interviewed. I wish she would do more but I also understand she has given a lot. Phenomenal talent.
Wow! Wonderful to see McKee!! I remember her from Lone Justice in the 90’s. She was a part of my growing years ❤
This song will remain one of the classics !!
So much a classic I falsely remember it winning the Eurovision song contest
Loved Lone Justice. I still have their first albumn on vinyl. Ways to be Wicked is my favourite. Loved this band and Maria. A very talented beautiful lady ❤️ 💥
I didn't discover them till Shelter came out. Wheels was my favorite off that album.
I still listen to that album. Reminds me of a very specific time in my life.
I was surprised when I discovered that Maria McKee wrote this. She was so young when she had a hit with Show Me Heaven
Indeed. And this was 5 years earlier.
Yes indeed. I never knew that either. Greetings from the Netherlands
It's lovely to see Maria. I've been a huge fan, especially when she was in Lone Justice. She looks and sounds so well and happy.
Maria always love her
SO great to see Maria!
I long for a new album of more straight ahead pop/rock songs from her!
Truly a magnificent artist.
I hope she's happy and well. I love her!
I've said this a lot but that scene in L.A. was an incredible time when Lone Justice was formed in the early 80's. Such a diversity of music and it was bursting with energy and talent, NONE as much as this whirling dervish of a girl!
Infectious joy, A kick ass band, and a voice that makes grown men and even metalheads weep!
Rock on sister❤🤘😎🤘
I discovered this maybe 5 years ago. I knew of Maria McKee and also the Undertones. But man this song really touches me. It's universal.
Maria McKee is a national treasure. Perfect Dress, Breathe, Panic Beach and so many more get directly to the core of a way of feeling that can put you in those moments. Her songs let people know they are not alone and give solace and happiness.
The late , great Robbie Robertson, once said that Maria McKee was an accomplished a singer as the brilliant Linda Ronstadt . Now that's high praise indeed ,as Robbie knew more than a thing or two about music and talent and class !
Don't really need Robertson to tell me that..I have ears
@@reddragonready yeah, but do you have Robbie's extraordinary musical gifts and talents ? Hmm !
Maria is in the "Somewhere Down the Crazy River" video
Never knew Maria wrote this song, but I’m not shocked as she’s one of the most talented and CRIMINALLY underrated female musicians ever. Ever. Wonderful to see her!
Not really,
She's a fantastic song writer.
But she's not much of a performance artist.
Feargal has become the voice for clean waterways in the UK.
I always loved this song 👍
So do I - it is kinda catchy and has a certain lyrical depth.
So nice to see Maria .. love her!
As a kid, I was a big fan of Lone Justice back in 1985 when they were opening for U2. Still a huge fan of their first record. I hope Maria McKee makes some new music. The current situation in music, with streaming, is ideal for her because now she can put her music out there without any interference from the labels, which is what killed Lone Justice.
I got Maria’s self titled CD from the late 80s - early 90s. Very good LP
Yes, Maria rocks! it came out in 1985 I remember discovering it on the radio. D. Stewart knew for sure how to make hits sound good by then~ Took me longer to find out about the great Undertones, but now I still enjoy it all!
I listen to never be you ALL the time. One of my all time favs.
I saw her in Dublin in 1990 thereabouts. Super vocalist and she was brilliant and i was in love.
Mother redcaps great night
Maria got to love her energy and spirit! Ava Maria!
Love Maria!!! She was such a hottie when I was a little kid! My first crush! Love her voice! Such a great artist!
I've been a Maria McKee fan since the 80s. I've never even heard of this song. The arrangement sounds very 80s synth pop. Would love to hear Maria's version of it. I hope she is doing well. Love you Maria & God Bless you!
you can hear it on her 2007 album "Late December" which you can find on most streaming networks or in the iTunes store. The whole album is great.
@@daxmargo8078 Okay, thanks. Yeah, I've got several of her solo albums but I don't think I've got that one.
Clever Lady. What Classics
I saw Maria at The Boardwalk in Manchester, UK in 89-90. It was the best £5 I ever spent. Bruce Brody was also amazing on his B3 with a Leslie.
Ive got this on 12” and its from the year my parents got married when they were young, so my dad loves it. Always wants it on if he visits 😂
What!? Never realized Maria wrote this! After years of searching I finally found this 12” a couple of years ago. Great video. Thanks.
I've got a 12"....
She still looks and sounds good
great review...have been a big fan of Maria since she was with Lone Justice and her solo albums ..would love to see her do an Americana album
Not sure it fits true, but i heard that Ricky Ross of Deacon Blue wrote Real Gone Kid after watching a Maria McKee live show, he was that impressed.
That much is true
Amazing story well done 👏 fantastic song . Yes he sang well
I never knew or heard anything about Maria McKee til this video. I had a cassette of all these 80's pop songs with Feargal singing this song. It was awesome. I was in England when this song and Life In A NOrthern Town were around I believe. Also some Thompson Twins Doctor Doctor. So many great songs from that era. I recognize some of the places at the beginning of the video in L.A.. Kinda looks like the area around Venice.
Look up her Lone Justice videos and her solo song Sweetest Child. She’s wonderful.
Classic 🎼🎶🎵🎶🎙️♥️
I always thought it was an unusual song for Sharkey to sing who I did see live singing this in the 80s, props to Maria, who knew? 😊
Was madly in love with Maria in the day ❤️
What a beautiful woman ❤❤❤❤
NO idea she wrote this one. It was MA-HOOSIVE when it came out!
Het leuke aan dit kanaal vind ik dat het internationaal op gereageerd wordt
He sharked it good 👊🏻
One of the drummers,
the blonde babe wearing green is Gina Schock of The Go-Go’s.
Her solo album House Of Schock would definitely be enjoyed by any fans of Lone Justice or solid pop rock in general.
X what a great Band
Leuk om haar wikipedia te lezen... Ze heeft zelf ook op nr 1 gestaan in Nederland met 'Show me heaven' Dat nummer kan ik me ook nog wel herinneren.
Wow never knew she wrote the song. Never was into much of her own output but her vocals are something else.. Show me Heaven is a good ballad but her vocals made it so special. And I’ve got one of her 90‘s solo record. Good stuff. A true artist.
Lone Justice 💙
'You Little Thief' was another great Feargal Sharkey song.
...ironically written about Maria McKee
@@johnmcglone9167 Wow. I didn't know that.
It's one hell of a diss track.
Feargal singing "Get Over You" live with The Undertones is the greatest 2 minutes in music.
I have loved this woman and her music for so many years. FYI, she's performs a beautiful version of 'A Good Heart' on her album 'Late December'
YES!!!
She's also in the videoclip of 'Somewhere By The Crazy River' by Robbie Robertson and she also sang backing vocals on his debut and self-titled solo album, on the track "American Roulette".
That's a great song and the video is memorable too
Always liked the backing vocals on this song, i might be wrong but it looks like Kym Simms in the middle, i don't know who the other ladies are though
Debra Byrd and Freida Williams were the only two that sang on the record. Whether that’s them in the video, I haven’t a clue.
Love, Maria ❤
Bryan MacLean from Love was her brother. He wrote Alone Again Or.
Step brother and he wrote Old Man and was a roadie for The Byrds at one point
Great artist!
CAN WE GET A VINYL PRESSING OF "LIFE IS SWEET" PLEASE???
Now I must rewatch Sunset Boulevard
A musical with an amazing story Maria ?
I was just thinking it was about time for a new one
So interesting to see how so many of the biggest hits were initially rejects!
MM - so damn powerful!
She was,is a firecracker
wow good to know
Is there a video on Simply the best? I'm really curious to know about that song's origin, you know what I mean 🤔
Great song! She is a fine lady. A true mix between old and young. Like, how she moves, talks energizes the surrounding she is like a girl of 25 years old. but in the other side, with that strange makeup like a old woman? Weird. I like her. A LOT!
🎵👍👍👍
"Because the night" was co-written by Springsteen and Patti Smith. Not sure if that's still called a cover.
The music is all Springsteen, she added a verse and a few sentences, the chorus and the rest of the lyrics is all Springsteen.
Great song... legendary song writer... lovely vocalist... but that production is so garishly of its time. I think everyone would feel a lot better if Maria and Fergal united for an acoustic recovery of the tune.
Het leuke aan dit nummer is dat het later door een nederlandse band genaamd Van Dik Hout gecoverd en vertaald is toen heten het houten hart
I cant believe he didn't write his most famous song! The world has ended for me ..............
Teenage kicks is his most famous song ffs
@@user-in7hz1nu8lWhen he was in the undertones yes FFS
🤦🏻♂️
Watched Lone Justice supporting U2 wembley stadium
I didn't realise Sharkey didn't write it! Wasn't he playing a piano on the video of his next one? I just assumed he'd become a writer as he was also an A&R guy.
Didn't she have to fight to sing Show Me Heaven? Pity Lone Justice got nowhere, I thought they were great.
wow thats Maria Mckee now ?
Amazingly beautiful woman!
So Jimmy Iovine just casually helps this banger into the world and then moves on to work with Dr Dre.. That man is a genius.
Irish American writes it for Irish born guy to sing it,perfect.
What a curious lady
And Frank Infante of Blondie on guitar!
Great song - I always assumed the solo backing vocals were from Madonna though. Is that just me?
Surprised she didn't know Patti Smith co-wrote "Because the Night" with Bruce.
Love this song. But I can never shake the feeling that’s it’s being sung by Weyoun from Deep Space 9… Seriously, Fergal has the same voice!
Is it true that You Little Thief was Tench dissing McKee? Or is that an urban myth?
I heard that back in the day too
Paul Young could have done a good version of this if not Feargal Sharkey.
Would be to soft.
I was a teen in the 80's and I don't recall the group Feargal.
I don't want live in a world where I cannot compliment nor shout about a naturally beautiful woman! So here goes: "Bloody hell, what a naturally beautiful woman!" 😉👍🏻
Now... before anyone with blue hair judges me for being shallow and attempts to shame me for being influenced by physical appearance... who said I was talking about physical appearance? I say it was your lack of inner-beauty that has caused your toes to curl inside your sandals, so go and make some changes, it is NEVER too late!
Peace 🌞❤🇬🇧
I am a little disappointed that there wasn't anything about why she wrote it and what parts of it meant to her. That was really the only reason I watched this.
She said she doesn't remember writing it. Rock'n'Roll 😂
Wow, she plays/sounds like an open mic horror yet it's a reasonably good song for Sharkey. Good for her!
Open mic horror? She's a great singer. Don't take my word for it. Check her out. Her band in the 80s was called Lone Justice.
It's a good song, testified to by the fact that Feargal absolutely butchered it, and not even he could f it up.
Maria McKee has now turned, from the hottie she was in Lone Justice and a sexy kitty being kissed & groped by Robbie Robertson in "somewhere down the crazy river", into... Geoffrey Lewis! 😆
That's cold man.She still looks great and we all age....
@@user-pz6ge7hf4x nevertheless she just looks like him ^_^
I tend to agree with Iovine. Good song but it didn’t fit the LJ album.
It's a good little pop song, nothing special for 80s talent.
Fergal was much better in the undertones
Grey hair does not suit Maria.
Would be nice to re-record without that awful 80s sound.
This song always makes me cringe, i absolutely hate Feargal Sharkey’s voice.
Feargal’s voice was perfect for The Undertones. Not for Pop pablum like this.
Well, two things in this video didn’t age well.
