    I wish you offered this as service. My old 20GB probably needs a Re-Ball. My local shop tried the capacitor trick and it didn't work. And I'm scared to take it to another shop now.

    I have a 20gb PS3. I've tried the overcloking cfw. But it was pretty instable.
    Visual glitches and freezing.
    It IS nice to see older systeme can bé modded and repaired with better chips

      @@hamasakikenji4554 Yeah man. Right now I game on my PS3 Slim and PS2 Slim but I just love the concept of one machine playing both games out of HDMI. I hook up my PS2 Slim with HD Retrovision component cables and play ESR discs burnt with widescreen patches applied and they do look decent but still Standard Definition on an HDTV. I must say PS2 Patch Engine is a game changer. There are thousands of widescreen patches out there. You first apply the pnach and then you apply ESR patch then burn and insert. I can't stand that stretched fake widescreen.

    I would love one of these. I lost over 40 hours on metal gear solid v phantom pain, due to my ps3 YLOD on september 11th 2015, i still have the slim ps3 i got it exchanged for to this day, but really like the backwards compatibility

      Sorry for late reply.
      My BGA station is bodged together from some Chinese cheap shit, I don't know all the model numbers anymore.
      I use IR on top but want to upgrade to hot air sometime.
      The best temp control is dependent on the board not the plate temps - it'll be different for every machine type.

I have come to your same conclusions about temps but found that thermocouples are highly inaccurate because - in my experience - they sense the hot air which is being blown at them rather than the actual board temperature. That is why I was curious to see what temps you used for that nice result. Still, as you say, I did notice that thinner boards/components need lower temps than thicker ones.
      Any hint on how you decide what temperature to use? I've been struggling with BGA in general for a while and I feel I have decent equipment. Thank you!

    What is the safe temperature for desoldering RSX? It looks like balls are not made of lead free low temp melting point(220 C) solder, so I think 320 C is the melting point. Am I right? Is that temp safe for crystal?

    Curious, l’m interested in these mods and plan on one in the future but l’m wondering, why don’t you also replace the CPU chip to a smaller one as well? Are the 90nm CPU’s always good and the GPU’s were always the main problem?

      GPU only one who has the flip chip defect. CPU made by IBM is solid.

    hey man i am currently searching for xdr compadibility in ps3s and @Computer Booter told me that you swapped xdr ram with a different revision xdr on a cok-001. Which revision you changed the stock one with

    This is amazing dude, i currently have 3 ps3s that are dead from the rsx chip (no signal) this gives me reassurance that they will soon work again !
    whats the liquid gel form you pour on the board then weld on it

      It's high quality flux.
      Not welding, soldering. Not the same. This process very complicated.

    nice! Just wondering, what actually is CPU training? Does it have something to do with the branch predictor or something similar? I ought to know as my forte is more a software engineer, specifically low level software engineering, but I do dabble a bit in hardware modding.

      Is GPU training that is edited here, not CPU, because only the GPU is changed. I don't really know what this refers to on the PS3 as I'm not a PS3 expert.

      Visually. When solder flows the surface tension of well flowing solder pull it perfectly into place as balls are all melted liquid.

      It's interface training data which helps bring up the interfaces

    I will do this!!! You didn't use a BGA Reballing station? How did you desolver/solder the GPU? PS: I hope they update CFW, in order to support OtherOS with the 40nm GPU.

      Yes, I used BGA reballing station. But I can't show under the heat, you will see nothing because my camera can't see in there. So I cut to the sections where the top heater was to the side and not on top of the chip.
      CFW already working.

    I appreciate you answering my previous question. I want to run a few things by you. I am working on a backward-compatible PlayStation 3 motherboard. I am replacing the RSX. First, I would preheat the motherboard to 175C. Next, have the top heater kick in until 220C is reached. Does this seem good for a PlayStation 3 motherboard? I think I was not preheating hot enough in the past. I am using the ACHI IR PRO SC rework station. Thank you.

      Pls be careful about that every machine will respond differently. You need to test and find what work well for you. But I do similar as what you said.

      Only if you looked at it and prayed to God. Otherwise no.

      RSX had a BGA issue. It would sometimes work, but only for a few minutes at best. Any sort of movement would disrupt it enough to hang with severe artifacting.
