It's kind of crazy how short yet good this is. It gets right to the point, yet it has so few views compared to deciding instructions that I don't think are as good as this.
Dude, that was so smooth and simple! 😦 Great job! Various painter knives sets number their tools differently, so your no.4 may not be the same as the no.4 in a different set. But, since you've shown the tool in the video, it's a moot point.I'd also wrap a bit of shrink tubing around the bend of the second tool, in order to protect smaller components and the board from getting scratched.
This is a phenomenal tutorial. Short and to the point, while still showing the whole process from beginning to end. Thank you for sharing it! If I had found this a couple years ago when I attempted a delid, it probably would have gone a lot better :P
I used this exact video to delid my system correctly thank you so much A tip for everyone else. Heat up the IHS for 30second to a minute at 200°C Take your time ! It would glide like butter
really don't know if you want to be doing that. heating up the heat spreader will heat up the CPU underneath causing it undue stress when they aren't very good with heat already.
@@HeavyBreathingGamerXD how long isn't relevant, the thing that damages these CPUs is the repeated change in temperature, not the level of the temperature. over time they get stress fractures from it. yes I know it is only one time but the whole point of delidding is to prolong the life of the CPU, which you arent doing if you're causing more stress fractures.
@@elmerandrewcrowley2822 you are correct but delidding with out a little heat can cause cracks in the solder as well. The whole thing is dangerous and a risk. Either way you can mess up. I’ve done plenty of successful delids with a little heat. With out a little heat that glue is super hard to cut and using more pressure would crack the solder or a slip of the hand will scratch the chip. Again this whole process is a risk just use caution
Thats the way, I felt terrible and cringed when Vince was having a bad time, it wasnt his fault but I still knew it was done when he was jamming it in like that
2:18 I wouldn't be so "calm" in that part. I saw people that damaged the CELL by making so much pressure upwards, the silicone glue literally deattached the PCB, but with a part of the PCB it self.. The best option would be to avoid those capacitors by any means. You can start then in the opposite corner.
MGOFor3ver starting from the opposite corner will increase the chance of scratching the CPU the best way is not to remove the toll once you start deliding
I’m doing this right now with the same painters knife.. but the adhesive won’t budge and I’m applying a lot of pressure… adhesive is rock hard.. any advice?
That's a CECH-2000 series PS3 slim, right? The one which still has the 65nm gpu? Do you know if the IHS is already sort of glued on on the RSX of these? I'll probably have to delid both the cpu and gpu on mine because the fan is ramping up really hard, but I'm sort of wary because I already killed two PS3 fats when trying to delid in the past...
method id good but not so easy and don't recommend doing it very high risk of cutting chips , instead use very thin plastic fishing line that way you can cut through the sticky layer easily with out any harm on chip

I have a CECH 2011A but the CPU has paste thas is hard as rock. I cannot do as easy like you.
@zakaria hassen, so I dont even need to use a heat gun??
once you repaste under IHS do you add it back or can you run it with the dye touching the heatsync directly?
that clear stuff near the chip, does that need to be cleaned or is that not paste?

any advise about the thermal paste ? or liquid metal may work good ?

It s almost impossible
Mine won't budge. Using the same tool and even tried heating the glue a bit. Can't cut it at all.
So, did it work out eventually?
Heat the CPU for 2 minutes on max setting of hair dryer and then do this it makes it much easier!!
Absolutely WRONG! You will damage the flip chip mounting solder below the die, and/or the insulation. WRONG, don't do it, never.
