This technique results in the cleanest and fasted sound I've heard so far. Even when you get to the same speed using your wrist it doesn't sound the same.
I like the last thing you said about "Batio does a lot of doubles" In alternate picking, that changes the direction for your string changes. As you step up to the next string . Paul Gilbert emphasizes that as well, but MAB shows several ways of changing picking direction, to set up sequences , and link them all together. One cool thing he does with the regular pentatonic blues box in say 5th fret A minor, is play an ascending. E minor scale with it to get a specifically Dorian sound .
For the first time I actually looked deeper at your technique, and it doesn't have anything similar to Batio's technique than the speed. It looks flashy allright, but it's not what MAB does. At least what he was doing back then, when he was recognized for his technique. It seems to me, at least from this video, that you are mostly economy picker, with hacks like most economy pickers have, starting with legato to avoid weird turnaround picking directions, and starting on an upstrokes. MAB is famous for alternate picking mostly, and he does it by playing from the wrist, and navigating from the elbow, so his motion is not from the elbow for picking. What he actually does is a wrist motion like tapping on the table motion to do ups and downs, while adjusting the elbow to navigating the strings, it's a must when you have 3 fingers anchored to the guitar. Also, MAB is using his thumb and first finger(flicking the thumb) motion very descretly, and he won't admit it, because he is probably doing it from the index finger mostly because of upstroke after downstroke fasciation, probably the result of practicing lintricate alternate picking licks with the planting technique. Cool video man, and you are killing it, but show us some of your hacks more deeply, MAB has his own chanel for people to dive into his stuff.
Nice video. I pick from the elbow like MAB and i anchor the fingers too, but i cannot pick from the wrist (unless i have to play slow things). You mastered both technique and it is not common! You fucking rock
I cant get super fast with wrist picking, Ill guess it depends on your tendons, I use both. I find elbow to be more precise and easier, but my arm gets tired after a while
nice camera angle to cover up the picking lawl. Do you slant the pick up or down when you do the pinky anchor batio style? Wish the camera angle was on the other side but oh well. Awesome picking though, very clean.
I have a question for you, did you start picking more lightly, when you were getting your higher speeds down? Also, i notice MAB is picking toward the neck cut away, not angling to the volume knobs. Did you find that as well?
Does he really do it with his elbow ? I mean, when I play like that, my hand just falls down haha because of the tention you get, so.... yeah, when batio does that it looks very smooth and relaxed...but anyway great video, soud sound very fuckn great !
When you started picking from the wrist, you also started mastering tremolo and then slowly introduced more complex phrases? I'm trying to get used to pick from my wrist but i'm struggling for a long time...
I dont' think so. when you get older, you're gonna feel (carpal tunnel etc) all that you are doing wrong here. this is nothing like MAB's picking style.
Great technique man, but this is not the way MAB pick. He use the wrist back n forth, not sideways as usual. He totally not use the elbow to pick. Watch MABs videos once again and you will see. bye
I disagree with you on that one. I've met and talked to MAB for awhile and he even told me he picks from the elbow with slight scalpel picking which is movement in your index finger and the thumb joint. And when he plays fast there is no motion in his wrist all elbow.
doesnt matter if you pick with elbow or arms, as long as the pick between the fingers is rigid with tremolo style, otherwise you wont shred, the difficult part is getting the left hand up to speed, that's the problem, especially doing runs, the keys to the lamborghini is the tremolo picking, but you need the left hand otherwise, that lambo has no engine
batio uses forearm movement, not elbow, maybe he is mistaken, but if you look at his arm, is shaking when he alternates fast, this doesn't create as much tension as the called elbow technique
Haha, for me the left hand is no problem at all, maybe with the exception of warming it up. In fact, I'm not even having much problem with two-hand synchronization either. My problem is just endurance and speed with the right =/
He uses his wrist not his elbow like you are doing. If i were you I would pursue a more musical player to emulate. His fast playing makes me jittery, not like listening to a really good fast player like Paul G or Shawn Lane.
James Rockford Batio plays every style of guitar Neo Classical, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal, shred, acoustic. Batio has degrees in music composition, and music theory. He has invented techniques and the double guitar. He can play left and right handed seperate and at the same time. If you don't enjoy his music I understand that...everyone has different taste...but your comment is 100% bullshit!
Batio gave you the keys to the Lamborghini, well done :)
Hahaha I remember that
Monster speed. Great technique. Congratulations and cheers from TDPRI

Much like!
It's interesting to go into other picking techniques to find the one you like most.
I wish i could get private lessons from you! :)
I actually give lessons thru Skype, FaceTime, in person. Pm me if your interested!
Straten Marshall how advanced do I have to be for lessons?
I like it. Gonna give it a shot.
I like the last thing you said about "Batio does a lot of doubles"

Micheal Romeo does that changing picking directions.
You're using your arm though, this isn't MAB technique at all. He basically only uses his hand.
Very good ☺️

Thanks bro! Some prefer the wrist, some prefer the elbow, but they are both efficient!
Fantastic!R U_A-440 pitch?
i have one word for you "Monster!"
Thank you!

How did you get that tone? Your tone's amazing.
What type of red bear pick is that?
I have a question for you, did you start picking more lightly, when you were getting your higher speeds down?
Also, i notice MAB is picking toward the neck cut away, not angling to the volume knobs.
Did you find that as well?
it's easy , just practice all day long,. one year.
my little finger on my right hand slips away when i try it it is normal at the beginnning ? sry for my englisch
Stoneheadrainer emskirchen also depends on the body of the guitar bro
When you do ascending 6s from the B to E strings, are you starting on an UP Pick ?
Does he really do it with his elbow ? I mean, when I play like that, my hand just falls down haha because of the tention you get, so.... yeah, when batio does that it looks very smooth and relaxed...but anyway great video, soud sound very fuckn great !
Do you use 2 way pick slanting?
So father Straten did you practice using your wrist to change or did the change happen by it self??
Awesome . Are you resting any part of your hand wrist palm on the strings or bridge or are you totally in the air like batio?
Hi, do you have any advice on holding the pick firmly vs loosely in speed alternate picking.
When you started picking from the wrist, you also started mastering tremolo and then slowly introduced more complex phrases? I'm trying to get used to pick from my wrist but i'm struggling for a long time...
I do the same but without having my finger un the pickguard
I dont' think so. when you get older, you're gonna feel (carpal tunnel etc) all that you are doing wrong here. this is nothing like MAB's picking style.
Fuck a dog, you're proper good. Good good technique.
Haha thanks bro i truly appreciate it
As soon as i change string it all goes to shit, help me pleaseeee.
FifaScythi use alternate picking! upstrokes are very important and muscle memory! remember, practice and repetition = success.
Straten Marshall I am using alternate picking, but when i change string when i try to play faster the note doesnt sound well and it goes all sloppy...

I’m 10 years late. 10:00 For guitar pic?!? I have to buy lot of picks, they disappear,

You're an idiot, Do the internet a favor and NEVER comment again on ANYTHING, MORON.
orale first spanish word, , cool means, chido. ops. nice
Batio is the worst, no musical inclination whatsoever
James Rockford Batio plays every style of guitar Neo Classical, Classical, Jazz, Blues, Rock, Metal, shred, acoustic. Batio has degrees in music composition, and music theory. he still has no feel or musicality
James Rockford not every body can be satisfied listening to Kirk hammet and slash
well then stop listening to them.... Kirk sucks Slash is average. Malmsteen, Shawn Layne, Johnny Hiland are the best
James Rockford i bet even kurt cobain is a better player then you
