I arrived home yesterday from a weeks holiday in Edinburgh. I have been before, but this was by far the best visit. On one of the day's I visited Craigmillar castle then walked into Duddingston Village. As a lover of old pubs The Sheep's Heid Inn was amazing and I agree the food is something to be desired. Very friendly staff too. I visited so many other places during the week Edinburgh is one of my favourite places to go. I also loved the lively, vibrant energy created by The Fringe Festival and a trip to Edinburgh wouldn't be complete without at least attending one of the ghost tours. Missing it already.

    More antics, plz! 🤣
That loupin stane (horse steps)made me gaffaw out loud! 🤭🤣
This symbol ☠ means, plague victim?!
I was not aware of that 😵 but I have noticed a lot of gravestones, throughout Scotland with that symbol on them!!
Learned something new today, makes a good day, even better!! thx 👍
I think Duddingston Village is officially on my to-see list, next time I visit, Edinburgh 💙💙
p.s. finally ordered my Clan Broonford tee, in heather purple...💜
    hello from Denmark 🌱🌸

This video was AWESOME!! You made me cry with the beauty and history. I brought students there in 2019 for lunch and Skittles. I've been 3 x and loved it every time. There's a Frankenstein-like novel called The Edinburgh Dead that features the graveyard. Very cool. You make me smile.

This is one of my favorite memory of my 2019 trip to Edinburgh. What a wonderful place! We went around Arthur's Seat, then down to Dr Neil's garden (so beautiful and well hidden) and had lunch at the Sheeps Heid. Then walked accross an orchard and reached Arthur's seat through a gap in the wall. Just a perfect day! Thanks for your wonderful videos.

The steps for helping people to get on their horse is called a loupin'-on stane. There's another outside Aberlady church where my grandfather was the beadle.

Enjoyed the video as ever. The skull and Crossbones on a grave doesn't mean plague, it's a notification that more than one body lies there. It's a sign for the rapture supposedly, so that whatever angel, Gabriel maybe, comes for the "faithful", he'll know to resurrect more than one person.

    @The Broonfords - beautifull walk! We've done it yesterday - one of our favorite places in Edinburgh;
Dr Neil's Garden is really lovely place for picnic or wee walk, you should visit next time - access to the Garden (by car) is from Duddingston Road West, there is big car park and everything, you pass a nice area of allotments and there is small gate at the end of it, next to the Thomson Tower (you can visit tower too) or there is another access to the Dr Neil's Garden (by walk) - from the church side and wee cafe when is open; Regards!

At 5.15 in ,there is the original entrance in the back ground its a classic Norman arch and the kirk was founded during the Norman period by Knights that were invited to settle in Scotland by David the 1st . Jock Tamson was one of the ministers of the kirk and he called his congregation his bairns ,hence the saying we are all Jock Tamsons bairns .

Hi Tony. Tomorrow I'll travel from Kernow to Ould Wreekie (deffo spelt incorrectly, sorry), to visit a dear friend who now resides in Whitefoorde House since the passing of his wife, earlier this year.
Inspired by this video, I shall walk, weather permitting, from my Rose St. digs, to The Sheep Heid where, even if they don't serve plant-based fayre, I will respect the history of the Inn, soak up its ambience and enjoy a room temperature beer. 'ansum. Slanjevar.

    Re the Sheeps heid.
I have played skittles in there and Brother chored (well someone had left it) an old style rucksac (pear drop) in there . This was early 80s. ,
Never lived in Duddingston but although part of Edinburgh we saw it as this far away exotic place.

Another great video! The tomb in the kirkyard reminded me of one at Old Calton Burial Ground for Captain John Gray, which also has a ship on it (very detailed sculpting). I notice the name here is Jean Gray (related?). John Gray's stone is just to the left near the steps and close to the wall as you enter Old Calton; it's quite evocative and impressive, containing other sculpted elements as well.

and regarding the gravestone - The skull and crossbones are probably the oldest mortality symbols found on Scottish graveyards. Often an hour glass is combined to signify time running out, or a winged death's head also indicating that life is nothing solid but fleeting. .graveyardsofscotland.com We both learned something today x

In 1992 I fitted new kitchens and bathrooms in a couple of flats in the tenements directly opposite The Sheep Heid.
Had lunch there every day for two or three weeks.
At that time Malcolm Rifkind was a very unpopular secretary of state for Scotland and lived in the house just to the left of the tenement and diagonally across from the pub.
I had a run-in with him one morning when he complained that we had parked too close to the opening of his driveway which was utter nonsense.
I told him he should go live in England as he was a Traitor to the Scottish people
He abruptly shut up and went inside.😄😄
Bonnie Prince Charlie drank in the Sheep Heid and had his own private stall. They say he was carried out very drunk many a time by his manservant.
