- You are a sun Goddess
Will you save me?
Hooray for you.
Hooray.
Now the rain it comes, the rain it blurs the grey line
...the grey line, the Greyhound home
You are so vicious (Hurt me, I can take it)
Cause it's all in the heat of the moment,
It's all in the pain
Sonar, sonar again...
It's on again, (got no wings... gossamer wings...) ...on again...
You are a sun Goddess!
Will you save me? ...babe... babe... babe...
Cause it's all in the heat of the moment
It's all in the pain!
So give in to the heat of the moment
Give in to the pain!
deadhead is probably one the greatest vocal performances of the last 20 years
How hard is it to rate the best of anything, oof. I tell you what, I would stand in front of a bullet if it meant protecting Devin or any of his band mates. My life doesn't compare.
Not really periphery and their vocalist Spencer sotwlo blow Devin outs the water instrument and vocalwise
@@covid-mx9ng troll
@@luizf4853 not really go check them out and tell me Devin is more versatile or a better vocalist then Spencer sotelo. And Spencer gets better with age to. Every album he steps It up
@@covid-mx9ng Sotelo is pretty amazing too, actually in this kind of cases i prefer recollect the names instead of compared them, we live in a world where the best singers are rated in base of how much money can produce without taking care of the talent, so is better recollect the true powerful natural voices in order to continue their legacy and not let them fell in the limbo.
If this doesn't give you goosebumps, you're dead inside
I didnt get goose bumps but it's hard not to tear up! Sooo emotional...
Bro that bell at 18 seconds in fucks me up every time.
A million views tends to lessen the blows... but damn if it’s not still powerful as fuck.
goosebumps confirmed
You have a deadhead
Tom Jones shattered a glass with his voice, but Devin Townsend shattered Tom Jones with his.
Bruh. You literally just named my two favorite vocalists.... Mind blown 🤯
Would be pretty cool if they were to collaborate.
Its not hard to shatter glass with you're voice. Its been demonstrated by plenty of people om UA-cam even
Anyone with pitch can break a glass. Resonance frequency.
Tom waits
There's no speaker loud enough to play this song!... An absolute masterpiece
Musical genius of the highest order
Today is the anniversary of my husband and my first date. December 9th 2011. Devin Townsend show in Illinois. Some random person took our picture saying he never saw two people more in love. We got married 6 months later. He played this song that night. Cheers!
Nice, this song is about marital infidelity!
@@seansalo5117 not really
Lucky day, that was my 25th birthday!
I honestly think that those screams, especially the "will you save me?" one will definitely echo in time and will be heard in thousands of years in worlds we will never know.
The "babe" pierced through my soul and scarred me for life.
So, in order for sound to travel, there has to be something with molecules for it to travel through. On Earth, sound travels to your ears by vibrating air molecules. In deep space, the large empty areas between stars and planets, there are no molecules to vibrate. There is no sound there. Unfortunately, this cannot happen.
Beautiful comment Bro/Sis
@@BunsenMusic it's a digital medium, so it will travel via electromagnetic waves..... electromagnetic waves have no issues travelling through space. Get off your pretentious ass and stfu.
Nope. those are only useless screams. The screams of Ian Gillan in Child in time, those are immortal screams.
Those high screams are the best he's ever done. A fine wine this man truly is. Just wow.......
Just amazing
How the hell does he keep getting better!!???
The elixir is in that water bottle.....
I was on this concert. It took me 13 hours of drive and I’m not sorry for all the driving and troubles that came along!
That is defenetley THE BEST concert I have ever been to in my life!!! The atmosphere was amazing! It was magical! And seeing so many metalheads headbanging while they sit was really interesting and just great!
I love you so much Suzana
wow wish i was there as well
@jerry krits That's an ancient Roman amphitheater, you can't really make a regular standing concert there; that's why people are all seated...
no doubt their level and sound is top notch but i dont really like the arrangement the constant flutes and oboes in the background is annoying for me. of course i dont know how this sounded live maybe better
I've been to his concerts twice. First was at a Festival (Graspop in Belgium) and the second in a tiny hall in a small city in the Netherlands. The second one just blew my mind. It was like magic. He even was his own support band (he played songs acoustic, even Juular look it up, Juular Neushoorn Leeuwarden). That has been the best concert I've ever been to. And hope to see lots more of him. This guy is the best musician I've ever met. He's a God, but also human.
This ACTUALLY made me tear up. I cant even remember last time I cried. Just wow
Hevy devy 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Meeee teeewww!!
Without a doubt his best vocal performance on this song. Incredibly powerful and flawless voice control.
Phantom I’m torn between this and the Albert Hall version!! 😮 wow
Prog4Prog Yeah! It’s a close call really, but this is objectively speaking a better vocal performance. But hey, music is subjective so I don’t mind anyone liking the Royal Albert Hall performance better. :)
We can all agree on that Devin is an absolute monster who never fails to impress. :)
actually he nails it in every performance ive seen on youtube, such an awesome guy
I happened to see a video of DTP doing Deadhead at Red Rocks. It wasn't a produced video. It seemed to have been captured on someone's phone, but it's clear enough to show the intensity of the performance. I watched, and I was mesmerized. Love the Albert Hall version and so glad I bought the Bluray. Love this version here tremendously and will have to look into getting this one too.
chetthehoss I was at the Red Rocks show and I can assure you that Deadhead gave me chills throughout the entire song. Devy upstaged Opeth big time at Red Rocks. Gojira might have been better though, they always put on a phenomenal live show.
6:48 -- Will you save me?!?
That's one of the most soul-rendering moments in music that I've ever witnessed, just from the sheer passion behind those lyrics as they are sung here.
The drums sound amazing in this version, and what a pleasure and honor it must have been to conduct the symphony to this song.
This is literally symphonic metal, and this might be the zenith of the form.
Fun fact, the beginning sounds so massive and trance like because both Devin and the other guitarist are both tuned to open C. Meaning when they strum all open strings its a C chord. This layers the rhythm up twice and the reverb stacks the tone even deeper, causing this extremely fat massive sound.
Fascinating insight!
Not that I would know, but I completely works for me and I’m here for it
Every single freaking tuning when u strum all the strings open it is a chord. wtf r u talking about. e standard, strum all the open strings u have an E chord, hence the tuning, E. same goes for any tuning. da hell
@@Duarki That would be incorrect. Standard E does not form an E chord. Open E tuning is E-B-E-G♯-B-E. Strumming that would give you an e chord.
@@keithw096
what the hell r u talking about.
It’s E A D G B E.
How the HELL did this man top Royal Albert Hall? What a fucking performance. Seeing everyone headbang at around 4:45 is incredible too.
He wasn't recovering from the flu for this show. Which is what makes Royal Albert even more amazing. He just got over the flu
@@MedTechMetal Wow, I did not know that. That's insane.
tbh i like albert hall better. hes voice is undermixed and i dont like the arrangement the constant fluting and oboeing in the background annoys the shit out of me.
Seriously, I just thought this too...wtf? Goddamn Devy! smh! \m/
@@muriloninjaThe orchestra and choir were overpowered by them. I could hear the orchestra every now and then. First reaction on reliving the gig on dvd was....meh. Had to grow into it. If you havent watched the whole dvd yet..try the ocean machine part.
I just wanted to put forth my appreciation for this drummer, without him DTP wouldn't be possible to pull off the way they did. All glory to the rest of the band, but this drummer is shockingly underappreciated. Hence this comment.
Remember to return here, at least every year.
Agreed!
Agreed. Clockwork!
Guys, I just saw Devin 3 days ago and you're not gonna believe this but his vocals topped even this performance of Deadhead. I don't know how the fuck he does it but holy shit it was the best gig I've ever been too.
How the fuck can his voice be so powerful and flawless after all these years. Especially after SYL days.
As a lead vocalist I have never been a big fan of screaming vocals until it came to Devin. This man took screaming vocals to a whole different level. He is fricking amazing. I remember when he was taken on tour with Vai. Vai knew his potential and that says it all. They still work together to this day.
I am in awe of every word and scream done elegantly makes me shiver all over. I took the "Greyhound home" one day years ago to Los Angeles and got sober for the first time, homeless. How far we have traveled in life speaks volumes. Devin is one of those people, can I call him people? Perhaps?. Yes. He makes it all seem worthwhile. Thank you sincerely Devin Townsend, you my friend, are a master of your gift. Thank you for sharing it with the world!
Respect to you for getting sober. It's not easy.
This song and this specific performance give me goosebumps. It is simply stunning. I am a big fan of both Devin Townsend and Nightwish (with Floor Jansen). 'Ghost Love Score' from Wacken Open Air 2013 gives me its own vibes. For somehow were Devin Townsend and Nightwish able to give me that impeccable rollercoaster ride I was never prepared for. All kudus to Devin Townsend to share this song in specific, his talent, his amazing music and great voice with us.
Absolutnie wspaniałe. Nie mogę przestać słuchać od miesiąca. UWIELBIAM !!!!
Plovdiv Amphitheatre is a magical place worth visiting and this phenomenal concert made it feel even deeper and mesmerising. Shivers down my spine for the years to come. Epic!!!
Holy shit this might be the best performance of this song I’ve seen. Amazing.
Had no idea this existed, way way underrated artist
The only way I could ever describe this song in the nearly 10 years of knowing of it is "wall of sound." Like a gigantic shelf of ice is towering above me, radiating an aura I never thought I'd feel. That's how it felt when I first heard it. Never thought I'd feel something from music like I do with this song and just about everything off of Accelerated Evolution and Ocean Machine. Especially at the 4:30 mark. The world will never see another artist like Townsend again.

Unreal the vibes this song puts off. Music of the gods.
6:47 ... goosebumps
Let's talk about Devin's power. That's so extremely rare. Vocal coaches cry when they see him sing.
I’m not sure how Devin managed to play the guitar and drums at the same time. Talented guy.
I love the fact how it looks like Ancient Theatre in Plovdiv embraced and encouraged the musicians, just like the crowd. Amazing song, amazing performance, amazing atmosphere.
A masterpiece of a performance. Devin is so intense - he sings the tears out of my eyes - I can't help it.
I truly believe this is THE performance of this song. Unreal!
Absolutely Superb...Most passionate vocal performance I have heard since the original "Great gig in the Sky"
What an incredible artist and performer. I had the pleasure to watch him yesterday opening the dream theater concert. I was blown away by his performance.
As a Dream Theater fan (saw them first in 1993 and devin with vai) I’m blow away by Devin while DreamT. Comes up with the same stuff, big difference.
This tune never gets old. So bold, so bombastic, so soul-shattering...
Holy fuck. This man is inhuman. I had the pleasure of being a part of a meet and greet with DTP and BTBAM. What an amazing human being and musician.
I saw DTP on that tour as well ! with Cynic. good lord what an amazing show and tour that was. cheers !
7:00 how the fuck he flawlessly swells that scream into a clean note, I have no idea.
One of the best songs of our generation..
Certainly one of the absolute best songs and vocal performances in the entire history of metal music...Hands down.
the energy that flows through this song is impressive... so emotional... Devin's vocal is definitely a kind of instrument, an essential part of the composition... I still continue to prefer the perfection expressed at Royal Albert Hall but even here the show is over the top.... amazing
This blows me away each time I hear it. Incredible performance
Those screams never fail to tear me up
Shout out to the grand pianist who continues to do his thing. 2:49
@Akmal Haider falls off his stool at the end too 7:40
@@pendleeldnep lol!
Pendle Eldnep hahaha amazing spot!!
Not sure what he is doing but it fits in perfectly
Listening... Crying... then and now I can die quietly. The last one before the ultimate light i'd see will be a woman. The sun godess. Thanks Devin
this song always makes me weep, I am lucky to have my own sun Goddess
You guys are gay.
lol
The soundstage at the Royal Albert Hall was just monstrously huge, but his voice was absolutely perfect on this rendition. A combination of the two performances would melt my brain.
The Plovdiv Philharmonic Orchestra has good taste of music, and propably the Maestro. They take part in a lot of great shows. Congratulations 👏
UNA HERMOSA CANCION DE LAS TANTAS QUE DICEN COSAS SIMPLIFICATIVAS Y CON PROFUNDIDAS DESDE EL ALMA EN UNA SINTONIA QUE DIFICILMENTE PUEDE CONVERGAR EN MUCHOS SENTIMIENTOS PERO QUE PUDO SER EXPRESADA Y COMPRENDIDA PARA MUCHOS DE LOS POCOS QUE SABES QUE ESTA CANCION NOS LLEGA EN LA PROFUNDIDAD DE LA LUZ PROPIA.
HUGS FROM ARGENTINA!
Ive never heard vocals as awe inspiring as that final verse
This song makes me tear up sometimes and this version really got to me. What a fantastic performance!
Beautiful performance by Devin townsend and all the. Musicians
Thats rather emotionally powerful. Devin never ceases to amaze.
Think that's the first time an orchestra has been told to fucking crush it! lol what an absolute legend, really powerful performance
Unreal screams..I have never heard anything like this..woww
Those screams, *Will you save me, babe, babe? is like the depths of the human soul speaking directly God.
Best version on UA-cam. Better than from the gig in Royal Albert Hall according to the voice and emotions of Devin. Thank you very much
Gosh, this is soooo beautifuly painful...! Master Devy at his best. Those hights...incredible...
My god what a majestic performance, just incredible pfffffffffff seen DT with Vai many years ago and now have tickets for a show in 2023 with my daughter!!!! Hope Anneke will join in Tilburg🤘
I'd heard this song before on the CD, wondered what that tweetering sound was - didn't realize it was an orchestra!
One of the best vocalists of all time.
This experience is orgasmic. The heavy bass, the meaty drums, his commanding voice and how he manipulates it. The whole fucking thing made my heart pound.
lived in Bulgaria since 9 months at the time of the concert. Was doing my civil service in Sofia. So fucking happy, Devin decided to come to one of my most favourite cities in europe. Will never forget this great time there.
I recently found out that not everyone gets "goosebumps" when listening to music. I don't always either. But . . .
Certain pieces of music have induced whole body spasms of goosebumps. This particular track is one such track, as well as the performance at the Royal Albert Hall. The emotion that erupts from his voice and the great swell of music is overwhelming. One of my personal "masterpieces of music."
Dang it.. Right when u think he isn't gonna top the royal Albert Hall version.. You go Dtp \m/
UWIELBIAM !!!!!!
6:50 That slide was an F6. Omfg. o_O
This is the most beautiful thing i ever heard in my entire existence
GREAT
This song will be a masterpiece every time I hear it.
Breathtaking! This man makes me proud to be a Human Being! Thank you Mr. Townsend
The best underrated live version. This or royal albert hall?
Plovid is sublime! the othere one is great.
Unbelievable performance. My God, his voice is still absolutely powerful and his singing here is probably the best version of Deadhead I've heard. I can't imagine how magical it must've been for those in attendance...
Thanks so much for sharing this. Yet another Deadhead performance that manages to move me...
I wonder what the Romans would think if they knew their theatre would someday be used for this absolute spectacle! Madness...
Devin is a master for all time and will be lauded well beyond his mortal years. Thank you for being you and sharing your gift with us all
I never thought they could top the RAH show, but this comes really close. The snare hits your square in the chest it's so damn powerful
Love the fucking snare
After Royal Albert Hall, watching this. Now I cried two times today.....
A DTP studio version of this with the choir would be absolutely amazing omg ^^
I love everything that you do.
Your music brings ❤ joy into my life I am greatful for this! Thank you Devin.
Everytime I come back to this song I hit the thumbs up. I know it counts only once, but whatever.
I could never tire of this. 💜🤟🏻
Thats perfect!!!! Most beautiful song about love.
Perfection is near....it is kind of reassuring and soothing too see/hear humans are capable of producing this masterfull song.
Greetings from GREECE ,EGALEO LOVES YOU
Another great performance by a drummer
I guess this man took metal to another spheres .. hats off 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Well seeing all the comments made me cry I'm glad to see everyone on the same level about Dev"s performance and that amazing amazing freaking band this is why I still exist thanks.

From the first moment (ages ago) I knew, i had to hear this live!
This is how my dream met Devins dream. :)
This is "off the scale" beyond amazing!

This is so epic and HUGE- I freaking love it!!!
I want to drink a beer with Devin before we die. I love this song
Whoa..
Exquisite
I really need to see this live...
I Play Royal Albert Hall and Plovdiv Live Together and this is awasome. You Can Try Just 1 Second Different!
I'm new to Devin Townsend but his vocals are really great. Love this song.
I truly hope you managed to discover him and his music.
So damn worth it! :)
Fucking beautiful I get chills and Tears. I’m sure I’m not the only one.?
Definitely not. 💯
What makes me happy is knowing everyone there is having a great time. Or even life changing experience. I was 2ft away from him at a concert and I was in a euphoric coma. I know for sure that pianist is having the time of his life.
