5 years ago I was so depressed I thought I’d be better off dead. Thought I would be alone forever, that no one would ever care about me, I would amount to nothing. I remember listening to burial and getting absolutely drunk and high fighting back feelings that eventually lead to tears. I just wanted to be dead and the only thing that kept me alive was family, a glimmer of hope that never went away, and my drug and alcohol abuse. I wanted to run away, but to where? Eventually I got out of that hole. I’m now married to an incredible women, I have a career that is fulfilling, and I’m working on staying sober. I know it doesn’t always get better for everyone, but it will if you just don’t give up and put in work to be happy. It takes time but you’ll get there. UPDATE: 2 years 10 months 15 days sober and with a month old baby daughter... if I can do it so can you
When I was in my darkest time. This song brought me solace. I come back and listen to this song every once in a while to remind myself of that time that I tried so hard to forget. The time that I could never forget.
You are now in the Underground of You Tube, a place of true emotion. This video perfectly portrays the defects, the fears and the obsessions of the modern man. Isolation, depression, hurt, loss, mania, paranoia, mental illness and other borderline-suicidal feelings. Just open your heart to beauty and go take a walk in the nearest park, you'll feel better and you will overcome your Darkness. It's an overwhelming battle sometimes, but if you fight everyday, you'll belong to yourself once again. Stop being programmed to do something, it's just want they want. Peace&Love brothers and sisters, you are not alone!
I love read all the comments on this video and realize that all of them are really intelligent and charged of nostalgia and toughts... I really love the Burial crowd, thats what I mean, intense people
This always takes me back to London, good times bad times, drugs, sex, depression, money the city is a mad place and can suck you in and try and change you, you gotta love it and hate it at the same time. I've had my time living in the city but whenever I hear some cold burial track I'm right back in those city life moments, he's the fucking master of nostalgia via music Big up Burial, Four Tet, Daphni, Joy Orb, Blawan and so many more for keeping things real in the UK
all i can describe of this song is that it feels like losing someone precious to you and watching other people enjoy their lives as you walk past them. its so sad yet its beauty still gives hope
Expresses my darkest thoughts and brings them to peace. When I listen to Burial, my thoughts do not wander, or are dark. They are content and I feel like I can overcome anything with a healthy mindset and ofcourse time. Burial is like a vortex for pure emotions and bliss.
+Ichokedamelononce What you guys just did is a small piece of why I love the internet, You guys united, whether it was because you had an understanding of one another or simply just because you could and that's a truly beautiful thing, stay awesome guys!
I feel like that sometimes, like now, some issues, some dreams, don't really want that feeling, but it is difficult to get rid of them. Hope you are still well, 24/7 must be, or was hard !!
I'm so in love with this music video. There's nothing better than Christian Bale in the Machinist featured with Burial's Forstercare. The sound of long nights, where there's just you and the music. Don't worry. No one ever died of insomnia.
I don't usually identify with comments, but when i do it's fuckin great.I couldn't imagine any other musical background to this epic film than Burial's tracks.
My take on the vocals has has always been: I want you - baby by my my side Nobody's by my side There you are But I think it's like backmasking; you hear the words you want to hear and what makes sense to you.

One of my personal favorites.. not just of burial but all time favorite songs. Music is emotion for me and this song captures it all. TIMELESS. Thank you Burial 🙌🏻
I'm quite sure that Burial has saved many peoples lives. Even more so reading the comments. His music brings one solace in solitude. Even when you're alone, you know you're not alone.
Daniel Haze I think this sounds more like dubstep than Future Garage, even though there is not as much sub-bass emphasis as dubstep normally does. as far as I know, Future Garage has a 2-step garage beat or a 4/4 beat, and this song has a beat commonly used by dubstep artists. but I may be wrong though.
depression is songs you've heard so many times their soul has been ripped out, or some stuff by Radiohead and Bjork that sounds sad for entire the planet
This is not how depression feels this is how adapting and overcoming feel like it's the moment you figure out how to keep going and leaving it all behind and it brings sadness because you never thought you can actually keep going
"Love this one feeling, it only happens to you when you’re out in the cold, when your down, this shiver attempts to warm you up, bring you back. For a moment you get this weird, eerie distant feeling like it’s just for you, you get taken out of yourself. Certain tunes just nail that." Burial
Back to unlike just to re like and leave comment several years later. I don't know what it is,but this song sticks with me. Usually when I'm lost in my thoughts again. Reflecting on where I am in life, where I want to be, where I'm most likely headed. Depressing and nostalgic. That's usually how I find myself feeling and thinking most days. It's like this song gives sound to the jumble of emotions I keep bottled up behind a smile and positive attitude.
after hearing this song, then watching this video, then watching this movie.....i watched the opening scene while listening to this song. matched up so the first scene starts the second this song does. i don’t have many words, but just do it. preferably high....
I don't know why, but the music really fit the movie scenes, and everytime I have insomnia I end up here in this video. The start of the song sounds like you are entering a cave, and it's really relaxing
+JumperDarko You're at the bottom of the pit of life, You can't go any lower, and just when you're wondering if this darkness that surrounds and entombs you will dissipate, a single beam of light shines upon your skin once more, reminding you of a time you had almost forgotten.
Trevor Reznik, possibly Bale's most underrated role in my opinion. The man practically almost killed himself to starve himself enough to fit the role of a man that has completely lost all sanity.
I think that is the most nostalgic and depressing song that I've ever heard. When I feel sad these sounds always come to me in my head, then it's time to wonder if I wanna go into these feelings and play the song. It is hard for me, but definitely beautiful too.
I am just another soul who many years ago drifted through darkness with this song. It came back now. I realized, that in this ambience I am more trueself than in anything more socialable, that I tried convince myself to. I guess I can just float on...
I'm afraid of showing this song to my friends, because they couldn't understand the feeling of the song and they could critique it and destroy my nostalgic mood when I'm listening to this. Is it weird??

I love how the opening shots resemble the Burial - Untrue cover. The white coffee mug. The downward expressionless stare. Really nice touch.
I never thought about that before. Good eye!

This made me realise that The Machinist should have had a full Burial soundtrack.
that'd sound way ahead to of its time, but that'd be kinda super sick ngl
I don't think he was making music back then
yeah, the actual movie feels somehow incomplete after seeing this
Watched The Machinist for the first time right after hearing this.
and it´s awesome
Easily Christian Bale’s best performance. He lost so much weight for this role, he seriously was close to dying.
Sickest film ive seen since requiem for a dream
