Did the New Fish Survive? Update on the Recent Additions!

- Adding fish to an African Cichlid tank can be a roll of the dice. Especially when the fish added are smaller than the predators already in the tank.
In my recent video, "What's in the Box?" I talked about four beautiful fish that I received from Josh Davis at Live Fish Direct (livefishdirect.com). They looked to be a good size when I unboxed them but after adding them to the tank it became obvious that they were actually quite a bit smaller than the beasts that are currently in the 150.
I've kept a close eye on things and here's an update on how they are doing after a couple weeks of settling in. Take a look and share your thoughts below.
Fish discussed and featured in this video:
Borleyi Mbenji (Quad - Copadichromis Borleyi)
Super Red Empress (Protomelas Taeniolatus Red)
Fire Hap (Ndiwe Fire Hap)
Imperial Tiger (Protomelas sp. "Steveni Imperial")
If you happen to order fish from Josh at LFD, be sure to type "Ochart" in the comments when you check out. He will include a bag of premium fish food with your order at no cost.
If you haven't already done so, please be sure to rate, share, sub and hit that bell to join the "Convo Gang." I love reading the conversations below.
Your support of my channel and recent attempts at live streaming are greatly appreciated.
You truly do rock my friend!

All new fish look good .
Nice !!!
Good looking fish Ben...glad to see all the new additions acclimated well in the 'big boy' tank!
It was interesting seeing the Red Empress next to the Fusco. It really shows the size/scale of the hap.
i use a power head for diversion along with dither fish
Hi Ben!!! GORGEOUS fish & tank!!! Thanks for sharing!!!
Nice fish I’m glad my red empress & vc10 are looking great at 3”

Brian Hahn Thank you for stopping by Brian
Can’t stop lol your channel is the best, it’s taking this hobby to where I’ve been wanting to for awhile now, thanks man
They look amazing Ben..
They look amazing 😁🐣🐥🐤
Love Live Fish Direct! I bought 2 sets of rams, some angels and a pleco, and they worked with me to make sure I got the specifics I wanted. They are awesome and I’m so glad to see your fishies are doing well. They are beautiful... Nice haul! 😀😀
sanjeev anand This is what I do: feed your fish then turn out the lights. Then float and add. In an hour or two turn the lights on. There will usually be some initial chasing but it should settle down. If it doesn’t you might need to pull one or two out. Always tricky with Cichlids. Good luck.
Thank you for watching Zen Ginger
Red Empresses are tough fish. He'll be chasing your predators soon enough. Lol.
I wasn’t so lucky. I added a buccochromis noto, buccochromis spectibilis, & a compressicep to my tank. My Insignus was out in quarantine because of cloudy eye. The Insignus was the tank boss. After a week of quarantine I put him back in and he took out my my noto. Needless to say Insignus had to be rehomed.
Jerry Martin Sorry to hear that Jerry. Did you rearrange the decor while the insignia was in QT?
Ben Ochart yes. No lights as well. I watched them for 3-4 hours and seemed like it was going to be ok. Woke up next morning and he was dead.
Jerry Martin Sorry, hate when that happens
Good video Ben. Have you ever considered using a gyre pump in your tanks? You wouldn't ever need to use anything else...they really are awesome.
Gurvinder Parmar Have considered, along with Ecotech, big bucks but very high quality, effective and quiet.
I've been looking at the Ice cap 3k. Which one do you have? I can't for the life of me get my flow right in my 220g. Drives me crazy.
Stay at Home Cichlid Mom Sump pump or powerhead?
I have a question for the ya. I have 2 fire haps and alot of peacocks together. I just pulled some babies from the female fire hap. My question is can the peacocks breed with the fire haps? I'm not sure who the dad is. I'm hoping it is the male fire hap but he is not the dominant male in the tank.
I have a red empress from Josh. There gourgous
You mentioned you provided 2 treatmeants of General Cure since you were unable to quarantine them. I am assuming that you have no carbon in your filtration. How should one handle it when there is carbon (Chemi Pure Elite - bottom tray of FX6) in the system?
Rene M. I remove when treating. After treatment I put some carbon in the filter for a few weeks then throw the carbon out.
Ben, what about your tetrastigma?
Frances Arroyo I will talk about him in an upcoming video. Stay tuned 👀👀
I have a male Electric Blue Acara, about 4”-5”. If I were to add a male Bolivian Ram (juvenile), would they become aggressive towards eachother being that they’re both males?
The Irishman Hello Irishman, u fortunately I’m not familiar with that combination. Someone at the Ben O’Cichlid group might be able to help.
Okay, thank you for letting me know and for your help. Great vid btw!
few weeks ago I ordered and paid $75 for a super red empress from livefishdirect, their description was that the super red empress worth every penny! and what i got is a regular empress trash fish with very dull coloration that i won't even pay $10 for, he look absolutely nothing like the other two super red empress i bought from someone else, neither the shape or the color qualified the trash fish i got as super red empress, i got scammed and would never ever buy any fish from those crooks ever again.
Contact Josh Davis (the owner) and explain this to him. The Red Emp he sent to me is epic.
