- Update from the Avdiivka Front: Russian forces broke through the defense lines north of Avdiivka as Russian and Donetsk forces entered Stepove and heading towards Berdychi, corroborated by Ukraine MoD.
In the SW of Avdiivka, Russian forces broke through the final trench lines north of Optyne, and as per the latest report from pro-Russian sources, the Russian forces had entered into Avdiivka itself into the Khimik district.

Ever since the introduction of the APFSDS (Armour Piercing Fridge Synthesized Discarding Shovel) round to the Russian tank corps, the Ukrainians have struggled to stop any Russian assaults. Ukraine will need to procure A-10 warthogs and AH-64 Apaches if they want to stall this assault.

The general in charge of this operation seems far more competent than the Ugledar one. The two wings of this oeprational encirclement are acting in tandem, while in Ugledar the 155th marines complained that there was little communication between brigades.
Yes but to be fair Ugledar has lot of high rise buildings where the ukrainians place ATGM-s, and there are only open terrain around it, so it's a very hard city to take.

Yes, the Russian air force making bombing runs over their targets these past few weeks is very telling and a shift in the war. Either Ukraine is running out of AA or combo of running out and redeploying the remaining to sensitive targets back West.

There is a version that they are used for rotation. Units cannot be on the front line all the time, and therefore change with rear units from time to time. When this reserve did not exist, the actively fighting units simply went on vacation without being replaced by anyone (just remember what happened after the Lisichansk operation). This is not an absolute truth, but only my opinion.

Nobody saw Adiivka coming just as Bakhmut was coming to its termination point they get a blitz into Adiivka. Now Ukrainian forces at Zaporizhia front can either keep pushing as Donbass collapses or move and give up the offensive there that was in the making for so long.

Capture of Avdiivka by the Russians would be an important development, at least for the residents of Donetsk. Russian control of Avdiivka and the surrounding villages would place Donetsk outside of the range of some artillery systems, bringing relief to residents of that regional capitol.
