Good for you!! I’ve been driving in a major North American city for the last quarter century, and I can count on one hand, the number of times I’ve come across that situation. The person on foot usually knows they’re in the wrong because in my experience, they always end up backing down (and I’m not an intimidating guy). It just might take some time because pride often takes precedence over ethics, manners, and civility once one’s position is challenged. What’s crazier is that the same thing has even happened to me in a supermarket... with shopping carts! It happened in the line up for the cashier when I came up behind a lady who didn’t have any groceries. I just assumed she was waiting to get something behind the counter and didn’t think anything of it. A couple minutes go by and she asks me to excuse her friend who had just come up behind me. At the time, I was looking down to read something on my phone and just naturally made room. When I looked back up, I saw that the friend I just let in front of me had a FULL cart of groceries! Sparing no expletives, I proceeded to tell them how I felt about what just happened. Luckily for everyone, before I made (even more of) a scene, the next lane over opened up and I got my rightful spot back in line. For the life of me, I can not fathom what makes people think that such behavior is even remotely tolerable. However, I’d bet good money that these are the same folks who don’t flush after using a public toilet, chew with their mouths open, don’t hold doors open for people behind them, take up two parking spots, don’t cover their mouths when they sneeze, and pick their noses in public. You know the type... those whose actions aren’t necessarily illegal, but are most assuredly unethical.
Someone else from the car needs to get out and stand in the spot close to her and then when they try to pull in refuse to move and say you're holding the spot.
Backing down would probably have been the easier option, however that gives credibility to the stupid notion that you can use your body as a human shield to save a parking space. Well done for sticking her out 👏

More patience than me, when it happened to me I just kept inching in slowly and she was forced to walk backwards as she wasn't able to push my car backwards. The best bit was when her husband punched her for not keeping the space for him.

For the sake of all of you who would push her out of your way: Doing that with the car is assault with a deadly weapon. Doing it with your hands is battery. Either way, it will cost you more that you want to put out. Getting the parking space and walking away from the car can also get expensive, and inconvenient; having to wait for a service truck to replace all four of your tires, for example. If you can't find a parking space, go to a different store.
