Lowkey kicking myself for making this cause now I realize I'm gonna get notifications from people talking about the story on the whole when I'm still on the 92 quests 💀
Its really refreshing to see some talk about dawntrail that isn’t super negative
Yeah I've been enjoying it, but some cracks are definitely starting to show for me, but I wouldn't call it overly bad or anything, just a really really slow burn with characters that aren't Square's best. Still need to see the rest of the story cause I can be fine with a slow burn if the payoff is there
All I can say w/o spoilers, is they touch me in ways I didn't expect, the almost but not quite moments, some unexpected, some are, and overall making me wanting more. They dangle the choices bit in front of you, and then said"uh uh not yet"... making me feel a bit impatient about it, in a good way. 😅
Great video, man. I've really been enjoying Dawntrail a lot so far. It's definitely more of a laid-back arc so far, and I'm really happy about that. We needed something with lower stakes after everything post ARR.
Thank you keiichi! Glad you enjoyed the video and yeah I've seen the launch trailer so this entire time I'm just so curious how we go from point A to point B, made it to the level 92 quests now and it's been great imo, love the vibe Dawntrail has so far
"Pray return to the Wuk Lamat."
I can already tell Wuk Lamat is gonna be the Lyse of Dawntrail
@@JMulls Worse. My god, so much worse.
I'm sorry for what you're about to experience.
First part of DT is more of a history lesson and less story. And MANY people are bored to tears because of it.
They didn't get the ratio right for this one.
It tells rather than shows and there is very little gameplay in it. The entire MSQ feels like a Side Quest chain extended.
As I'm getting further in the MSQ this is becoming my main issue with it as well, telling too much and not showing enough
I'm glad you're enjoying Dawntrail
Personally, I'm so bored right now that I'm skipping cutscenes, and I don't care if I'm losing important lore bits, I just want to reach level 100 to get back to past expansions to do some side content until my sub runs out
Having completed the MSQ now... I enjoyed it. It was a slow burn, but I needed that. It felt nice not feeling like everything in the world depends on solely myself and me being the savior. It was like seeing another side of the storytelling. I would rank this as my 3rd favorite expansion, right behind Shadowbringers and Heavensward.
Yeah, it's defiinitely a slow burn that is promising a lot in the future, I'm right before Valigarmanda rn, and my overall reception will prob hinge on if they pay off all this development and foreshadowing, from the launch trailer, the coming stuff looks super interesting to me
Having played through the story, I must say the comparison to Shadowbringers pains me.
Just in case I didn't make it clear in the vid, I'm not comparing quality, I'm comparing world building technique. I was never going into Dawntrail expecting it to be as good as Shadowbringers or Endwalker for me
but DT is still a 8/10 (too many story "concepts/ ideas" re-used, like a filler, which it is before the 8.0 reboot & PS4 drop off)
....
Shb was a 10/10, Ew a 9/10
Concert re used? 8.0? Wtf are you even talking about
@@zombiegodsire
mobile typo, "concepts"
I don't see the point of those ideas not be re-visited again, especially give what the DT is suppose to represent.
@AGuyNamedDan79
SPOILERS:
.
.
.
.
.
- again, a young, nice feeble woman is the big villain at the end
- again people want to be "remembered" before killing them off
- again we the last dungeon is voiced, telling us how horrible things were / are in that world
- again we need to fix / build a train track
- again the past culture is shown on cave paintings
- again we find ourselves in an underground massive old but modern city with only ghosts / memories
- again, again, again etc..
...
every other expansion had completely new story concepts (execpt EW, it had a lot of similarities to ShB & parts of HW, but DT really over did it, .. litterily feels like a filler episode)
As a lore junkie I love this expansion and I'm feeling that power gamers will hate it because they can't so easily rush to the endgame.
What expansion can you rush to endgame? Every XIV expansion is 90% cutscenes, and 10% actually doing stuff. This idea that the expansion is made for lore people is just silly.
@@z0h33y You can rush by skipping the cutscenes, some cry about the amount of cutscenes that even when they skip them it takes a long time.
by this logic, dry lore dumps are genius world building
explaining the world isn't impressive, letting the player understand the world in a way that's enjoyable is, and i haven't been enjoying the story
I didn't think they were dry because again, this is a first impressions video for the level 90 quests specifically and others tackled world building in a similar technical style, but now that I'm nearing Valigarmanda, it's getting a bit less dry but it isn't as overall interesting as the other expansions have been at this point in time and I think it's mostly down to the tone of the story alongside the characters still being too archetypey
@@JMulls i posted that at 92 quests and just got to 94 quests and its atrocious
If Dawntrail is so groundbreaking, then why is all the message boards (including the official forums), in an uproar about it? Everyone seems to hate his expansion.
how would i know... this is a first impressions video breaking down how they tell the beginning of a story
@@JMulls The entire story hinges on whether you like Wuk Lamat or not. You can even tell SE is aware of this, so they cram her down your throat every step of the way. The character herself is, i wouldnt say groundbreaking, nor is the story, it feels like your typical XIV expansion, but with a really weak story.
Yeah Wuk Lamat feels like the Lyse of this expac where your enjoyment of it will almost entirely depend on how you like her as a character, and i think she's (im right before valigarmanda) way less interesting or cool as Lyse. I need to see the rest of the story first tho before any final judgements on my part
Dawntrail is boring this shit out of me. Classes feel basically the same with, and the music is nowhere near the quality of the previous expansion. This feels like the Shadowlands of FF14... grab the 5 stones... because reasons.... TERRIBLY disappointed
7 stones, actually
@@ctgooni That changes everything! Best expansion ever! Wuk Lamat is the GOAT. :')
@@TeemoTemosson The GOATie goat!!
The music is so bad this time around. The theme for Tuliyollal is Vegas/Jazz/Casino music, doesnt fit at all. They reuse a bunch of songs from ARR, and on top of that the new songs added all feature riffs/melodies from previous songs, even though it has nothing to do with the places youre in.
entirely disagree on the soundtrack, been loving it so far
People complaining about MSQ being slow early on are idiots. Literally have to reintroduce an arc and build tension/characters, people don't understand how much better this was than ARR. God i hate people who can't read more than 2 paragraphs.
Going from the highs of shadowbringers and endwalker to starting a new thing was always going to be polarizing for people and I get that, and while I think some of the characters so far (im still in the 93 quests) are a bit archetypey, I can see where, or at least where I imagine, all this may lead and it makes me extremely excited. I agree, for the start of something new, its been miles better than ARR imo
