Dude... this was perfect. Thank you. The Living Muse issue was the biggest thing that other guides didn't explain properly- ALSO because they're explaining the level 100 version of the class like we should already be familiar with everything. Thank you for the level 80 guide and very simple and clear explanation.
I had given up ever understanding Pictomancer and this video was so perfect. I finally understand what I'm meant to do with the canvas. Thank you so much :)
Thank you for explaining this concisely. The canvas painting is fairly unlike anything else in terms of fitting it into a rotation, and for the life of me I couldn't find any other guide that addressed its usage out of "uhhhh gee whiz this is kinda hard to explain but uhhhh it's like..." Much, much appreciated!
This video is excellent. Well done. Too many of these 'guides' prattle on just reading the tooltip, something the viewer can do themselves, and dont get to the point, which is 'what is the basic rundown of starting rotation and what interacts with what". Very well done.
the only thing i wanna say is that repainting is fine but make sure you don't do it while your buffs or raid buffs are out (aka don't repaint your motifs as soon as you use them at the start of a fight) also it is not a dps gain to click holy in white whenever you get a stack, save it for movement or when you're capped also i've been using swift cast for wing motif in particular to double weave winged muse and mog of the ages in that 4s recast timer, because we're not using it for anything else
Another good reason to swiftcast motifs is the long 4s recast timer allows you 4s of movement. Remember you dont have to instantly pop your motif as soon as you draw it, and can wait abit to align it with raid buffs if possible.
People need to see these comments. I see so many Pictos pop their Starry Muse raid buff and then immediately begin repainting when they should be DPSing
@@flooft As soon as you use it so that when the cooldown of your skills are back up you can use em immediately, once you do you just paint again and go about your business with the basic and enhanced 3 part combo
@@jackjohnson8305 not necessarily. Your starry muse is a 120 second CD. Why would you waste GCDs repainting it when you should be DPSing during that cooldown? You wont use it again for 2 minutes. The only one you should repaint asap is the wing, because its a short CD damaging ability and lets you cast your Mog ability. As for the steel/weapon/hammer painting, repaint it to get stacks of Hammer when you know you'll need to be moving soon. Similar to how SMN decides which Eikon to summon based on what mechanic is coming next, whether there will be movement, downtime, etc.
I don't know how deep SE went, but its a common latin motto from Virgil that was adapted in that form 'X of the ages' on the Seal of the United States (they wrote the year the of the declaration of independence above the saying in roman numerals) "Novus ordo Seclorum", meaning something like 'new order of the ages'. So very different from a Magnus Opus. Probably just people thinking 'sure, that sounds good, stick it in'. Or perhaps they meant it to be "Mog for the Ages", which would be more similar to Magnus Opus, but a magnus opus is relative to the artist rather than the age (e.g. its usually regarded as significant to the public, but is the most important work of the creator, not necessarily the age). As others mentioned, "Rock of Ages" (not rock of the ages), which could refer to a religious hymn, a literal rock the church of england liked (burrington combe george), a movie about musicians, a play the same as the movie, an excellent Def Leppard song, etc.
Thank you for this guide! This class isn't exactly super intuitive just by looking at the abilities, so I appreciate that you wrote a quick guide for us!
Thanks for the guide, picto is great, as a SMN main, I love this flow and movement capabilities, it's not overly complicated, but super fun. I've just changed to picto a moment ago and will probably main it now, since they didn't give the summoner any new options and it's still so stiff and boring.
Legit thank you for this guide. I was looking up Pictomancer videos and all I mainly found was stuff that was either really confusing or videos guessing how it worked based off the preview. This made it far more clear for me to understand.
Istg, looking at Picto spells, traits etc and testing it on a dummy/explorer mode, I still didn't understand anything but this helped a lot. Simple, straigh to the point, easy to understand explanation
when you use your drawing spell a second time you didnt have any casting time but i did... i followed everything you said and still casting time... did they change it or something? how can i do it without casting time tho? Can you go into more details? i just pick this up today as it looks cool
I must have not been in combat the other time i used the painting. Outside of combat the paintings are instant cast and have a much faster recast time.
Just press the button when u need it, ur not wasting uptime bc everything picto does hits like a truck so it’s definitely worth it- especially with the living motif being a oGCD you can bring the motif to life right after casting it for big dmg. It feels weird bc ur technically not doing any dmg when painting a motif but just press it lol
Probably that the class is fairly mobile? You have shorter casts then recast timers, so you can move quite far with each normal gcd. Allowing holy in white to be stacked up 5 times allows you to save usages for heavy movement scenarios. And on top of that you also have your hammer combo, which is 3 instant cast gcd's every 60 seconds.
i think we're gonna agree to disagree, i dont think u should start to cast motive as soon as u get rid of it, u have other cooldowns u can use and the 2 charges are sitting there and ur overcapping them for no reason. thats how u loose damage.
It's true you only need to have painted a new motive before the cd is back up, but I don't understand what you mean with letting your charges overcap. If you're not painting the motive you can't use the ability and thus you would be sitting on ogcds.
He's not saying to paint it immediately, but you have the option. Most likely you would prepaint before combat since it's instant, and when you get near the CD for the painted skills is when you get ready to paint it. Alternatively, you can burn swiftcast on a motif, because Pictomancer doesn't really have anything else worth using it on
@@ValbrandrLeonhardt That doesn't really gain you anything though. Only if the encounter has some sort of downtime. Otherwise, as long as its outside of raid buffs, it doesn't matter when you paint a motif.
@@ValbrandrLeonhardt prepaint hammer is your biggest movement tool since its a DPS Gain. Holy is also a Movement tool but its actually a DPS loss compared to your other Skills. Swiftcasting a Motif is also a good Option for Movement.

@IlyaDalamiq I disagree with this guy a lot, since the buttons remain lit when the combo actions are ready, it makes it way easier to follow when you understand its just your next 123. Hearing the ability names actually adds in more confusion. This is the best and easiest guide to follow that I've found

Great concise video. I was a little worried about trying Picto, but this explained it very well.

In french "mog of the ages" is called "mognum opus", not sure what's the word play with the english one.
