  • I bought a Resin 3D printer along with a Wash and Cure station. Check out my first 3D model and how it turned out.

    That was great and easy to follow. I will be doing up an excursion train based on off-the-shelf flat cars and gondolas. They would include benches, with or without passengers and perhaps domed coverings. It might include a car with grills and tables for a picknic or swimming / boating stuff. I'm not ready to pull the trigger but it might be something you enjoy.

    IPA or Denatured alcohol is like 3-5$ a liter depending on purity (70% will work here) and almost completely reusable in this application.

    You definitely don't want to use warm or hot liquid in your wash. Until the part is fully cured it will warp and bend easily with heat. I still use isopropyl for washing, Yes it's expensive to get the amount you need, but you can "cure" the resin in it and strain it to essentially reuse it many times. Making the cost less of an issue. Plus washing with isopropyl works faster and better in my experience.
    I have the Mono X also, and look forward to seeing what you make with yours.

      is it best to use cold water?

    • @RoyEltham
      @RoyEltham 2 роки тому +1

      @@nscaler454 I use isopropyl at room temp. Water at room temp or slightly cool (like from the tap) would be fine.

    The eelgoo washable resin is a soft resin even after cure and I often have issues with it warping. It's the only resin I have issues with but I like it because it is a lot less brittle then most resins and even though I don't mind the resin smells other people in my house do and this is much less strong.

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  2 роки тому

      Have you found a best practice to avoid warping? Sidenote: I found the smell of the resin to be very strong.

      @@nscaler454 It's going to be model design. For example I made some containers with a open bottom since I didn't think it needed them as no one would ever see them. But after a while the sides did bulge out, So I had to modify the model to have a few 1mmx1mm connecting rods connecting the sides inside the containers. I had forgot about using hot water to soften and them like you mentioned, I use a hair dryer to heat them up. Most models do not warp, But the longer and thinner something is the more it will want to, try and work in more structure in the model to stiffen it.

    That's not warped ... It's simply been weathered. Clearly that's an abandoned barn in the back of the landscape 👍🏾

      I actually considered that! The little crack weathered with some heavy rust would look pretty cool I think.

    Very cool purchase! I have considered getting a 3D printer, I just don’t know how often I would use, it may save money in the long run.

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  2 роки тому

      I debated that as well. If everything you want for your layout can be purchased, then it probably isnt worth it to get a 3D printer. If you have very particular ideas of what you want, then a 3D printer can be very useful, but of course you must 3D model all the ideas yourself.

    Could n scale vehicles be made? Not sure how you could design something with so many curves.

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  2 роки тому

      Im sure it could be. It would be pretty difficult to model a car, but it certainly can be done.

  • @Vman7757

    Did you use your cure part of the anycubic before you washed it? I found after a print it needs a little more curing. Then I wash it when the second step was done. The part will be stronger.

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  2 роки тому +1

      I did not. I didn't even know there was that feature. Wouldn't that solidify some of the excess resin?

    • @Vman7757
      @Vman7757 2 роки тому

      @@nscaler454 yes it could. But. I do a light rinse,. Make sure the print is okay then I UV cure in the Anycubic rinse and cure. There are UA-cam videos out there. Makes a big difference.

    How well does the scale up to HO?

    • @nscaler454
      @nscaler454  2 роки тому

      I suspect it would be just fine. I could just rescale in the slicer and everything is now HO.

    hi, do you think that this model positioning will work and print fine?
    Or how would you place this object to avoid failurs?

    Its a resin printer.
    Thanks.
