    Another really cool presentation Jimmy. As you know I always enjoy watching your stuff and the hints and tips that you provide. One of these days I will put enough cash aside to get hold of a 3d printer. Being retired does have one downside and that is the amount of money available. Start saving *now*.

    Thank you for all the great information in this video. I don't have a printer to do that with but it is interesting to see how you do it. I would just buy already printed buildings easier for me.
    GOD BLESS 🚂💖🚂💖🚂💖

    Funny you mentioned them.... I was re-watching a few of Oregon Joint Line's operations videos recently! Love his ops videos; the dialogue between the yardmaster and engineers (plus the occasional interference from Superintendant George W. Thompson the Third) make it very entertaining.
    And it's about 5:30 p.m. here in California as I'm watching, so for me it's Beer & Trains! I'm enjoying Mind Haze Double IPA from Firestone Walker this evening.

    I would also suggest look to real life for inspiration. When out and about keep an eye out for interesting items and structures in the open spaces and among the forests, including a variety of vehicles or equipment.
    Other places can be an old hunters trappers cabin in the woods, these are usually no bigger than 10'x10' they are just to provide shelter, a place to sleep and eat, and a small covered porch. A simple structure. It makes a nice surprise among the trees.

    I have two toddlers a 4 and soon to be 3 year old. My 4 is really great with operations and handling the trains carefully. She even tells me when she gets older she wants trains like I have. My 3 year understands that's she's not allowed to touch unless she's with me. I consider myself a very lucky Dad. As for the wife...well Jimmy mine doesn't care about trains now and didn't before the kids started to get involved.

    Jimmy Will you explain how the engineer level works in Patron? Can a patron choose a model or is it only the latest model that you create? The way my brain was wired from 41 years in a lab I interpret verbal quite literally. If one can choose from your entire past collection your $5/month is very reasonable and in-line with Cults charges for your quality and detail. From watching your videos you already have an impressive library.
    Mahalo for all you do

    I can never glue painted kits. The glue and paint combine into a big mess that doesn't seam to harden very well. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong so I always paint after assembly.

    Nice presentation. I just own a 3D printer and actually printed an entire train set witch is a subway train. Montreal city subway. Found STL files on a website and using 3D builder,I put it all on scale. This windows free add on allows to modify the scale of a model. I can take a N scale and convert it to HO scale and even do the opposite
    After printing all the main train body. I will have to search again for the trucks, and coupling,,then assemble and paint everything.
    There’s many web sites where we can find free STL files of a model,house,cars and even everything. Then just need to print it

    I would like to get a resin printer n print myself a tender no one makes in N scale. Would that site have files for tenders, or do I need to go to the railroad historical society? 🤔 Thanks

    Do you ever cad from a photo? I have 2 photos of my grandparents house and would love to make it a 3D model for my n scale layout. But I don’t know how to do it! Is this something you do for people and then sell the file??

    Very informative video, I have Mars 2 and it is not working right leaves a mess in the the bottom of the vat, followed all the ( fixes) but still has issues. It is 2 years old so I just am out of luck. For a year it worked great. I have a question, do the files you offer Patreon ready to print or do you still have to slice it?

    • @DIYDigitalRailroad
      @DIYDigitalRailroad  2 роки тому

      May I ask if the screen is functioning properly? You do still have to slice the models that I send out for patrons, but that is because of all the different printers.

      @@DIYDigitalRailroad yes the lights under the vat are working correctly. It used to make a growling noise when the build plate was in the vat. I found one of the screws came loose on the Z axis tighten it up and checked the others noise quit. I also leveled the printer and set the build plate as I had done on good prints. I also lubed the Z axis screw. The printer is a Elegoo Mars pro.. My wife got me another 3d printer Anycubic photon mono 4k but have not used it yet. Thanks for getting back.🥸

      Have you changed your FEP if it gets scratched or foggy it can distribute the light causing partial curing of the resin near the print. I picked up a set of extra vats so I can swap out. I also have been experimenting with a non ammonia foaming window cleaner to clean the vat and the build plate and the problem is becoming less of an issue. Another thing I do is use a 91% alcohol spray bottle (walgreens) to loosen the print from the plate. This uses way less of the IPA and I collect it in a pan to use as a brush wash if I need it. Hope this helps.

    Which is better? Resin printers or the other kind??

    • @jimktrains0
      @jimktrains0 2 роки тому

      Resin has higher resolution than fdm (there are other kinds, but fdm is the kind where it lays down a bit of plastic from a hot nozzle and the most common kind for hobbiest.) However, resin is toxic and you need to make sure you wear gloves and other ppm and have an area and tools dedicated to it so that you don't contaminate anything. there are also some cleanup/post-processing that needs to be done. all of that said, they're still well within the means of a hobbiest.

    Gets to the title of the video at least 5 minutes into it (more than halfway through) but then doesn't really answer it. Most of us know how to type in a search box. Good videos should get to the point quickly - YT viewers have a very short attention span - and tell us something we don't know.
