  • Hello Beaders + Crafters!
    In this video I will be showing you how I use wire guards and crimp covers when I finish off my beaded bracelets, anklets or necklaces.
    BEGINNING OF VIDEO: Will show you how I use just the wire guards.
    MIDDLE OF VIDEO: Will show you how I use both the wire guards and crimp covers together.
    MATERIALS + TOOLS that I'm using in this video are:
    * Wire Guards or Wire Protectors (they go by either name): In the video I'm using a 4mmx5mm size with a .5mm channel
    * 2x2mm Tube Crimp Beads
    * 4mm Crimp Covers
    * Beads of Choice (I'm using 1.5x2mm Crystals)
    * Beadalon Wire (I'm using 19 strand, .010 diameter)
    * Clasps of Choice
    * Chain Nose Pliers
    * Flush Wire Cutters
    * (Optional) Bead Mat
    If you have any questions, please leave them in the comments below and I'll try to answer.
    *HAPPY BEADING!!*

    Never having used wire guards before I have to tell you I absolutely love your use of words for clarifying what you’re doing with them (“up the rainbow, down the rainbow,” “squeeze the legs”). It’s a great mnemonic to help remember what to do. Thank you!

    Thank you!!!! I was having a terrible time with the crimp cover. I just bought the crimp tool (expensive) and it still was a mess.
    Thank you again

    Do you find the chain nose pliers work better than crimp pliers? Ive been so frustrated trying to figure out the crimp pliers so i think this method might be my answer 😂

    Hi, I love your shop. Thanks for teaching basics for making polished professional-looking jewelry. What would you advise I use if I want to gift someone earrings I’ve made, and I don’t know if they have a metal allergy? I‘ve used the highest quality metals I could find, but lately some staple findings items are unavailable due to shortages, and I’ve resorted to base metal findings in a pinch.

      Hi Denise!
      I’d recommend sterling silver, 14k gold-filled, gold, surgical steel, or niobium. To name a few. Some people will react to these as well, but these are safer than the plated components.

    What can you use with strech cord to Make it look nice like what you did with the wire?

    • @fireflycarrboro
      @fireflycarrboro  Рік тому

      Without seeing exactly what you're making with the stretch cord, it's hard to say. But I'll attach a video on our stetch cord techniques to show how we hide knots and how to tie it all off. Hope it helps.

    I am so happy to watch the tutorial. I was not sure what number beading wire to use .
    I have few questions please.
    If the beads are pearls and rhinestonerings does it require a particulsr strength of beading wire.
    Are the wire guards all of same dimension.
    Do the crimp covers need to be double the size of crimp tube.
    Sometimes clam shell or culottes are used instead of wire guard. When is the other option suitable please.
    Sometimes crimping pliers are used to squeeze the crimp tube into a bead.
    In that case does that avoid the use of crimp cover.
    Sorry for so many questions. Wish you a happy new year.
    From U.K thanks

      I'm not sure I can answer all your questions, as many things come down to preference, but these are my thoughts:
      1.Pearls + Rhinestones: The wire size will honestly depend on the weight and size of your beads. That being said, most pearls have very small holes and will fit the smaller diameter cable wire. Depending on what brand you use, you should see the strength of it. Remember, that the more strands inside of the wire, the more flexible it is. Average sizes are .015 inch 19 strand, for pearls.
      2. Wire guards - I'm still in the process of learning about myself. Most that i can find measure about .25 inches long. That being said, they do come with different diameter channels. I typically order the ones that I know will fit most of my wires used. I might get a smaller channel if using a very fine cable wire.
      3. The crimp covers need to be big enough to have the crimp fit nicely inside. Typically 2mm crimp tubes, crimped with a chain nose tool, will fit a 4mm crimp cover. But a 2mm crimp tube folded in half with a crimping tool will fit a smaller, 3mm crimp cover for instance.
      4. I avoid using bead tips at the end of cable wire. If I must use them, I typically pull my wire through the crimp once, and then twice, so that it forms a little loop around the crimp before I crimp, then cover with the tip. I've found that if it's not done that way, crimps often times will slip right out and the bead tip will fall off. Maybe one day I'll make a video on that technique.
      Hope this helps! Sorry most measurements are in inches instead of millimeters. Happy Beading!

      Hi Jean. I don't know what the lady in the video is using but I just bought crimp covers 3mm and wire guards 5mm at Hobby lobby today to make misc seed bead bracelets and necklaces for my girls. Hope this helps.

      There should be a description under the video but if not:
      Wire Guards: 4mm x 5mm with a .5mm channel
      (wire guards come in several different sizes and have different sized channels, choose what's best for your cord)
      Crimp Covers: In this video I'm using a 2x2mm crimp tube with a 4mm crimp cover (if you use a crimping tool to fold your crimp, you could use a smaller, 3mm cover if you prefer)
      Thanks for watching and Happy Beading!
