  • Take a look at how we’re making our new Autism-friendly home. I talk about what an Autism-friendly home means to me and how you can make your home Autism-friendly too. Watch this video to find out cheap and easy-to-follow modifications you can do to your home to help your Autistic child. You'll also learn about the disabled facilities grant, how to get VAT relief, and choosing the right products (lights, doors, tiles, etc) for your child's sensory needs.
    If you're new to my channel, welcome to the family and thank you for watching our video! Here's a little bit about me, I am a wife, a mother of three beautiful children (Dylan, Luca and Naia) and a former actress. Following my eldest son (Dylan)'s diagnosis of ASC, I threw myself into knowing all there was to know about Autism and how to help him. After 6 years of research, I wrote my first book 'Coming Home to Autism', with my friend and speech therapist, Rhian Grounds. My mission is to help support and inspire parents of special needs children!
    Please feel free to write in our comment section if you'd like to share your story or if have any questions regarding Autism.

    Why do all your videos make me cry. When you talk about why your putting things in it remind me of my son so much. From screaming for no reason to jumping at 6am.
    House will look amazing and your doing amazing xx

      Oh thank you, I was about to say something similar, I akways wondered how does she have all this spare time? How come her house is so clean all the time with 3 kids, I’ve got 1 asd/adhd boy and our walls are covered in crayon and chalk and my mrs is CONSTANTLY CLEANING, like nonstop whilst I work 6-7 days a week, but that’s it fir us, it’s just me and my wife, we have no family support nothing, I know it’s not her fault for being so fortunate, but for someone that’s had so little it becomes quite difficult to relate to.

    You are very blessed, I too have an autistic son, he is seven and i devote all my time learning about autism because he means the world to me, the only problem is that I never get to see him because his dad and i are separated and i cant afford rent so i have been living in a housing program where they dont allow kids, but also his dad has parents who paid for him to have a house so i try to co-parent with him, but he tries to keep my son from me and he does not show any interest in the things my son needs and i feel like my son is regressing and needs me but there is no aid for parents that are low income w special children in southern Ca, where as in places like the UK have a lot of help and sopport. I have so much respect for you how devoted your are i wish i could do the same for my son, i watched all of your videos and have learned so much from you and sometimes i am shocked because you will be talking about something and it will be something that i have been trying to get through to my ex so that my son can grow and learn life skills, but he doesn't listen to anything i say and he does not do anything to help my son. Thank you for showing that autism is not a problem or a burden like a lot of people try to say, and for devoting your time to showing people that if you work with your child and give them the help they need they can live good lives and it is posible to have happiness.

You always attract the right people into your life, because you’re a beautiful person and give so much of yourself to others. ❤️❤️

    Security is my #1 Autism friendly house essential. My son can figure out most baby-proofing locks and he will escape. He loves being outdoors but has more extreme reactions to bug bites and has to be put on antibiotics from fire ant bites and even mosquito bites. My worst nightmare is him getting out in the middle of the night.

    I hate water on me. Hand washing, bathing etc. But now I am in my own home where i can make decisions about how things are i have got a massage shower head that has the water come out harder than normal. That hard pressure on me makes me hate showering a little bit less.

    This is awesome, I gotta say. I'm just worried or questioning how the other two kids feel about it, to be honest. Making a whole house basically autism friendly and for Dylan, does that make them feel less important or overlooked?

    • @ComingHometoAutism
      @ComingHometoAutism  3 роки тому +3

      Really good question. I hope not as the whole house is autism friendly doesn’t mean the other two won’t love it also. In fact they are very sensory as well. Luca has his own secret room which is his special place . And naia is having a swing in her room. Each room will have its unique point thought out especially for their needs. Luca and Naia’s bathroom has a very cool sink and shower head too. I did talk about this but we had to cut a lot of the house tour to make it fit other wise it would be an hour long episode lol x

      I believe this is why Luca has a secret room. So he too has something spécial.

      youpicoolstar yes exactly . He will have stars on his room and a special hanging chairs and also a door that looks like book case so it’s got the cool factor .. naia also has a special places too x

      @@ComingHometoAutism That's good! Just wanting to make sure they're all okay. I myself am autistic and I wonder how my siblings feel sometimes. To be fair, two of them are adults and moved out, and my brother lives with my dad, while I live with my mum. I'm not in a position to make everything autism friendly or anything, but making do with what we can.

      NathanBoo thank you for being so caring . Do colours make a difference for you? Keeping your space (Room ) clean and with out clutter helps keep the mind clear and you can do lots with colour and textures ❤️
