This is really quite fascinating. I'm used to watching European cab views, and living in Australia, where the rail corridor is secured and separating from the rest of the area. Here there are homes and shops right up the track basically, with their entrances facing the track, and little to no security or separation.
I get the feeling the corridor is wider and the poor just went ahead and ‘built’ what they wanted where they wanted and corruption being what it is; officials looked the other way.
Brings back so many memories. I've worked in Ninh Binh and surrounding areas. Even been to a secret explosives plant that was disguised as a food production facility surrounded by rice fields. The drab grey of the day and general overcast feel is so common there along with the endless half built dwellings. Food was amazing and very cheap, the local home brew Rice whiskey was incredibly fun and dangerous. Everyone seemed to have their own special brew hidden away.

most crossing barriers are controlled by workers, very few automatic ones exist. but in the meantime, of course, there could be dozens of automatic crossings as Vietnam does develop quickly.

Thanks for making and posting such a video. It's one of many ways people can see the world. Vietnam is drastically different than Korea, China, and especially Japan. Most train videos are Japanese where their system is... huge. I followed much of this track with Google maps on another monitor... Slums and poverty is pretty much ALL of Vietnam. Not to say there isn't modern areas or some technology. The whole country is rural. But rural Japan is... beautiful, unlike the buildings here. And obviously, the nature area (jungles) of Vietnam are liking wonderful things to see. While some people complained about garbage, well - I gather they don't really have much of a garbage system in place. A lot of things are also being re-used I guess. Ho Chi Minh City seems to be where the wealth of the country is. Glad that the USA has normalized relations with the country so there's more peace and business.
Fascinating journey. I wish I were a train Driver ! Wonderful experience as you see the surroundings as a train driver ... wow. And overall a good video ! It is also wonderful because it depicts - as we move from city areas with dirt and plastic trashes, we slowly landed in to greener side of the country. It's a virtual trip to Vietnam ...

It's always cool to see how trains are used in other countries. 3:09 this part going through a housing / industrial estate is crazy to see how close the walls are to the train! Thanks for sharing!
Awesome video, Nice clean cab window. Love the sound when the diesel engine starts accelerating from 12:00 onwards. The train horn has a terrible sound. Train driver must probably use ear muffs. CoCo or A1A type locomotive hauled train by the sound of the triple axles. That rail track is in very good condition. Interesting long straight track in parrallel with the main road.

Watching this reminds me of dreams I had 40-50 years ago. Back then I often dreamt of car rides through vaguely familiar (and exaggeratedly vast) cities and countryside. I never saw the vehicle I was driving, just that eerily beautiful terrain out there. In this video I just shut off the sound and there I am. Dreaming again.
I couldn't stop watching.....I rode all the way from Hanoi to Ninh Binh in the comfort of my living room. And the bad thing was, I found myself actually looking for familiar landmarks.
Hello, incredible video, well done! I'm in France and surprised that trains pass among people like that. The danger of hitting someone is constant, there are always people hanging around at the side of the track. Here the trains only whistle at the entrance to the tunnels because there is no one on the tracks! Impressive, I watched the video until the end because it's so incredible.
Thanks alot there is more videos like this in my channel. Some even more romantic, some pass the bridge called Long Bien, it's same designer of Eiffel Tower 🗼.
I remember that style of bridge near my house in Slovenia, nothing but two rails to make a single railway. Not even ties! It has long since beem removed, but the fasteners are still visible if you look closely.
Fun fact: According to a Vietnamese friend of mine, if you look closely from 9:11 to 11:00, you can actually see parts of the original tracks to the right. Those tracks were still active until they decided to move the railway a few meters closer to the road some 20-30 years ago. Why do the old tracks end so abruptly you might ask. Well, I think they are still in place, you just have to dig them up lol. Could the old rail be the one to the right at 2:50? I'm not sure.
I thought that the tracks were doubled (one each direction) and that they'd just removed one of the tracks, with it becoming buried over time. Now that makes sense. Even so, I'd rather have the tracks further away from buildings!
there are a few other videos about this because of how tight it is to buildings, and I do believe that section from 9 to 11 there was once buildings where the track is now, and they tore it all down to move the track and make the line safer. The many many road gates along the tracks along with the guards that man them are also a relatively modern addition, where there used to be nothing whatsoever stopping traffic from going across the tracks. Vietnam is not exactly a wealthy country, so it is unlikely they can improve the safety much more. Would require tearing down a lot of buildings or moving the whole line under ground or on bridges, and that costs an incredible amount of money even for wealthy countries
Whoooaaaaa , literally nothing is different about this journey, the buildings and vehicles were so simillar to that of our India . Amazing shot keep it up
Bonjour, incroyable video, bravo ! Merci, beau travail !!!
It’s crazy how fast it goes around buildings and traffic. Makes me think my country is a little tight on the safety regulations. Also I like how there are workers at the crossings
Yea it is too speedy. Am afraid accidents happen frequently. In Ethiopia the newly built Electric train's max speed is 80km/hr. This one I guess is running beyond 100km/hr
@@101akar It's obvious why he keeps honking... The OP just found a way to insert his very original meme so that later he can jerk off to all the likes he'll get from the mindless sheep who provide the material.
Pretty sure the only requirement that the railroad operators make the train engineers do is test the horn every 3 seconds. If they dont blow the horn 2,634 times per trip they get fired...
Given how unsafe the train tracks are in comparison to other countries' railway systems (having train tracks right next to the streets and shops with no safety barrier in some places!), I'm not surprised that the train driver is sounding the horn. Most countries have whistle boards where they have to blow the horn. But then again, most countries have safer railway lines than this...

I have a friend who drives trains in the UK - he enjoys the job but does say it can be boring sometimes. Somehow I don't think these drivers ever have time to be bored!
It's so beautiful!!! It may be that the cities are depreciated, dirty, but then they are interesting. I have always found the Asian world very interesting somehow. It was an imaginary trip.
We were on vaca in VN in '07. Really enjoyed your country. Like everywhere it has it's problems. But a lot of good points too. Another person said 120 death per years from the train. For population of 97 million that's pretty good. I'd be willing to bet the road deaths in the cities are higher than that in a big way. Love VN food too, especially the hand pulled noodles.
I'm an ex pat Brit, living in the Philippines, and I have to say, the roads in Viet Nam are far superior to the Philippines, no bloody great pot holes and no mad jeepney drivers.
This kind of reminds me of bus rides in my wife's home country of the Philippines. That bus didn't slow down much, even when navigating narrow roads with people and dogs roaming around on either side, just feet away. The bus driver sounded the horn very frequently, but usually didn't slow down at all. I was sure we were going to hit someone. People were even playing cards on the side of the road, and simply leaned forward as if to avoid getting hit as we passed! Amazingly (at least to me), we never hit anyone. I'm wondering how frequent accidents are with these trains in Vietnam...probably not very frequent, despite what we in the West may perceive as being extremely unsafe.
But it is extremely unsafe, and people are very easy to hit if they walk on the tracks since oncoming trains are insanely silent if you are infront of them instead of properly off the tracks to the side, even with the horn going you might assume the train is at a distance on different tracks

While some people complained about garbage, well - I gather they don't really have much of a garbage system in place. A lot of things are also being re-used I guess. Ho Chi Minh City seems to be where the wealth of the country is. Glad that the USA has normalized relations with the country so there's more peace and business.
Yes for the whole world to see 💞
Fascinating journey.
😅

seen so many ride videos of train but this one was so life like... the dirt, shops, people, cars, bikes, houses, offices.... felt like i was living the moment. can you please do more such videos of train on such busy routes?
It's always cool to see how trains are used in other countries. 3:09 this part going through a housing / industrial estate is crazy to see how close the walls are to the train! Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for the upload, for those of us who are interested in this perspective, it is curiously interesting insight of reality.

Hahaha, you got good point...
Congrats on finding some beauty in this video.

Sounds good 😊

Oh oh!
Brilliant, wonderful to see another part of our world, and get a glimpse of how people live.
Amazing journey! Greetings from Ukraine!
I couldn't stop watching.....I rode all the way from Hanoi to Ninh Binh in the comfort of my living room. And the bad thing was, I found myself actually looking for familiar landmarks.
Same here! Although, I'm not familiar with any landmarks there.
@@cherrysdiy5005 I kept thinking to myself...."That place looks kinda familiar"...when it really didn't :)

"I'm selling an apartment with 1 bedroom. Very quiet area and safe for kids"
One of my absolute favourite videos of this nature!
Love the bridges which are literally just track.
Lol, I thought the exact same thing!
The right rail is made by france and have been deleted from vietnam railways

I do wonder how often they replace the horn, I know if the light dies it is not replaced.

They got speed up.
Yea it is too speedy. Am afraid accidents happen frequently. In Ethiopia the newly built Electric train's max speed is 80km/hr. This one I guess is running beyond 100km/hr

@@ballaking1000 That garbage is finally starting to phase out. Lucky us, it's being replaced by the ultra hilarious shrugging shoulders emoji
