    The 'traditional bench layout' is better, but with a front gas locker that size, I honestly think that they should have taken a leaf out of Coachman's book and sunk the obtrusive, yet useful, front interior locker(chest of drawers) into the front so that it doesn't intrude into the seating area. In all honesty, I am not overly impressed with either. The 'luxury' seems to me mostly implied than actual. On screen at least and perhaps seeing it in person would leave me with a different opinion.Even with the Alde underfloor heating and other higher end fixtures. In the first layout, the lack of sockets on the offside kitchen dresser (as it seemed to be) was a surprise. That would be a perfect place to put a coffee machine, kettle or the fashionable air-fryer. Thus leaving the kitchen uncluttered for preparing one's breakfast. It is rare that a caravan fails to impress me, but surprisingly the Buccaneer left me feeling a bit disappointed. They are of course very nice, I am just not feeling it.

      Hi Andrew, good to hear from you and hope you’re keeping well. Having been in a fair few caravans recently I could honestly say I would be proud to own one.
      Your point on the lack of power points is spot on though, must agree.
      The front locker whilst wide was not that deep and your gas bottle(s) would pretty much take up the depth and with the amount of stuff we have in our front locker at the moment we would fill this one easily, even though it’s wider. A lot of space under the bed is taken up by the onboard water tank so storage for the accessories looks minimal I suspect to maximise the living space. Self levelling, Solar and TV are also included in the package as well as under floor heating. I also liked the look of the caravan on the outside too but as with all of these big luxury vans I would probably need to spend £60k plus on a new tow car to pull it so we will be sticking with our current van 😂👍. Best wishes and stay safe. Helen & Dave

    Beautiful quality caravans both, I’m with you Dave the conventional layout would be my pick. You would have to keep taking the table out every time you have a meal with the L shaped lounge. You can’t have an extra kitchen flap with the kitchen on the near side. I also thought that the bed when made up might be rather close to the door. Please do go back and look at Motorhomes etc. we are just going over to the dark side, my husband is no longer comfortable with towing and we want to travel a lot more.

      @HelenandDave  21 годину тому +1

      Hi Sandra, the dark side 😂😂 They are lovely caravans that’s for sure but I’ve already agreed with the dealer that I’ll go back to look at some Motorhomes. Would love to take one out for a few days and see if we could cope without a car which would be our biggest fear (oh and the price!). Thanks as always, take care, Helen & Dave 👍

    Dave, great episode as always nice bit of luxury, but still the build quality overshadows the van, we have friends who have bought Buccaneers and Coachman in recent tears and had lots of niggles. When paying this kind of money that really does spoil the enjoyment, on plus point we purchased the projector and it is very good Thank you.

    Great genuine review Dave. We took delivery of a new Bermuda in June this year after 7 years with a mid range Elddis. Have to say it’s luxury for sure! We’ve had the Alde Flow constant hot water unit fitted along with a 5G WiFi unit and the Truma AC which connects to the Alde heating to give 100% climate control. It’s a van we’ll have for a long time that’s for sure!
    Fan is called an Omnivent. I’ve always found they make lots of noise but not much productivity 😂. Ours is replaced with the AC unit.
    The pop up charger to the right of the TV is also a wireless charger on top.
    The shelf in the washroom gets in the way when you bend over to do your teeth, so I’ve found I have to have the mirrored cabinet doors open which gives my head somewhere to go 😂
    I’d much prefer a separate flush tank for the toilet. This is my first van with an integrated flush and I have to say the flow is weak. Best flow I’ve found is whilst using the onboard tank pump but it doesn’t beat a dedicated flush unit.

    Hi Dave and Helen, the long skylight that was in the two Buccaneers, is exactly the same as in mine, it only opens to one height approx 8 inch, yes Dave the small plug piece by the control panel is for the alarm, and it most probably has a infrared detector on the ceiling above the door. As with every caravan manufacturer it lacks power points by the bed, sadly some of us use CRAP machines at night, loved the first van but alas it's a bit of my price range, 100% end bathroom, mainly because it's only myself and the long haired General, all the best, stay safe and happy travels, Neil

    Great review Dave, we did consider the Bermuda when we opted for the Adria instead. For us, it was build quality and did not want another twin axle, so had all the kit added. I see Downtide have expanded their range to include Buccaneer, assume due to Greentrees deciding to close down, it is great to still have a local dealer or two who can keep the industry well represented in our area to provide service back up and am sure they must also benefit from tourers staying on the excellent sites we are lucky to have in Norfolk, so bodes well for caravanning all round.

    • @HelenandDave
      @HelenandDave  День тому +1

      Evening Mel, completely get where you're coming from and as you know from our vlog a couple of weeks ago we were very impressed with the Adria. Yes, it's looking like Downtide may well be picking up where Greentrees left off and completely agree, that has to be good for the industry all around from a county perspective. Remind me again what tow vehicle you use? Can't remember. Thanks as always, Helen & Dave

      @ I have an A6 allroad bitdi, max towing is 2500kg, the standard avant has lower towing weight. Actual kerb weight is 2080kg. ( without driver and with full tank of fuel). Had it weighed on 2 public weighbridges as standard car is 1965kg. So the extras, such as pan roof, tow bar etc. adds a fair bit of weight and keeps the towing ratio sensible. (The van in loaded mode weighed 1980kg). Previously used a Q7 , still have it and is now mostly used by daughter to tow her horse trailer, both are great tow cars and good on wet grass!

    Nice to look at, but for us, it is still manufactured by elddis who, unfortunately, at this time have a poor reputation 😮.
    On a positive nice layouts, though.
    Would work out a tad expensive the van and a hefty new tow car, maybe the cost of a new M/H.

    Great video, however so much storage and so little payload, 159kg minus a twin axle mover at say 60kg doesn't leave much for all those holiday essentials. The cruiser layout is my preference but in my opinion would be better if there was a dividing panel/sliding door between the kitchen and bedroom, however until elddis improve the quality of the build I think we will be keeping our 10 year old crusader cyclone.
