- It may be hard to believe for some generations - but the start of the New Year means 1974 was half a century ago.
To put things into context, it was the year Spice Girl Mel C was born, the first series of loved sitcom Porridge was broadcast and Elton John released hit song Bennie and the Jets. When it comes to Liverpool, many will also remember the likes of David Essex performing in the city and Liverpool FC beat Newcastle to take home the FA Cup.
As we settle into 2024, we've delved into the archives to find these brilliant photos of Liverpool back in 1974. Courtesy of our archives Mirrorpix, they offer a fascinating glimpse into Liverpool life at the time.

Top city then and now.😊
0:46 Tobin in Paradise on the side of the bus by Stanley Morgan. I worked with Stanley and his wife in M&S Handforth Dean. He was a scouse author actor now departed. His first role was as the concierge in the first James Bond movie Dr.No. There's a UA-cam channel with videos of Stanley's work. You may recognise him. Lovely man was Stanley.👏👏🙌
