  • Symptoms of Bad Idle Air Control IAC Valve Sensor - Does this happen when you stop your car?
    Bad idle air control valve symptoms vary but this is one that I've experienced on few occasions.
    NOTE: This could be a sign of other issues, but if this happens due to IAC malfunction then changing the IAC can sometimes solve the problem quickly, but it's usually past time to clean the entire throttle body and inspect all attached sensors for a lasting fix. Also, simply removing and cleaning the IAC can sometimes get you back on the road for cheap without having to remove anything else or pay for parts up front.

    UPDATE: My throttle body was filled with carbon, the carbon passed through to the IAC, and this is why the IAC malfunctioned. That said, remember to check/clean the throttle body for carbon buildup if you haven't cleaned it in a while. This can cause issues with all sensors attached to the TB, as well as mechanical issues with the closing of the butterfly valve. I have videos for removing, cleaning, and installing a throttle body on my channel if anyone needs a reference. Thanks for watching!

      So if you have cleaned the throttle body in an older vehicle should you go ahead and just replace the idle air control valve? I'm having slightly difficult starts it's not the alternator or the battery where the fuel pump and I just put a brand new starter on it any suggestions?

      @@kinganwar1 what made mine start and run better was a new PCV valve very inexpensive it fixed everything

      Worth mentioning it can stick open too after a long drive, and in park revs climbing steadily for me.
      And also they (brake)clean(er) up well if not a cheap OEM (Bosch)
      Great pinned comment here!
      I was looking for a *CAUSE* there's a ton of symptom etc videos and I just clicked this first and read that. (It it's more useful than the video for me😝)
      ☝️I'd already discovered my OEM Bosch was £250 and had a dribble of brake cleaner sitting about so cleaned it up with kitchen roll wrapped to a pokey (tech term😉)
      Still chasing a knock when cold that disappeared when hot.
      Any ideas? (Isnt in use til fixed)
      But I'll start cleaning the parts you mentioned here 🙏
      I've no mechanic, no money*, just me and my project v6 that's no where near being on the road!
      *Yet my cart has timing belt tensioners etc and same for v ribbed belt, water pump etc saved coming to ~£600 but need a tax rebate before I can afford to continue 🙄
      Need doing though as Opel state 40k timing belts. Bought it on 50k, cheap..
      Got the same engine as "the caddy that zigs" (does zig mean it can't drive straight? Or would that be when it's zagging? 😋worst caddy ever??) this could be an interesting learning curve for me😳🤔I used to be a pipe fitter😝

    hey if you wee to disconnect the TPS does it run better, just a higher RPM?
    that's what happens on my 2001 maxima. I was thinking its the TPS , or IAC or Dirty TB. I will have to go check with scan tool live data to see values for TPS and or Multi Meter seeing the voltage. it is a mechanical Throttle with a cable attached. since its a older car.

    just want to know that when the car is NOT idling and it is running over 4 rpm around 120 kilometers per hour speed so what would be the reading of IAC valve on OBD2? plz note that car is having Cable less electronic throttle body.
    my car shows IAC readings fluctuating during drive too, is it normal ?

    • @BigEightiesNewWave
      @BigEightiesNewWave Рік тому +1

      Yes it does fluctuate. If you rev it in park, and the idle hangs a little but comes down smoothly, that is called "flair" On a Ford, at idle and IAC duty-cycle is between 30-40%, with a load like AC on, it goes up some. Remember, an IAC is essentially a controlled vacuum leak. Quote from a famous CAR REPAIR channel on UA-cam run by Eric O.

    Cleaned throttle body a couple of weeks ago on 04 trailblazer after re installing back on truck, my rpm and gas mileage has not been the same I get random 1000 rpm every other day accompanied by a p0171. Butterfly is also way past the carbon line I cleaned like something is holding it open. Any ideas or advice.

    • @mrmanautomotive
      @mrmanautomotive  2 роки тому +1

      I can't say what it is with any level of confidence, but I would assume it's something to do with the throttle body, the attached sensors, or the air flow to the TB(vacuum leak). Let me know if you figure it out. Good luck!

      When you clean your IAC and throttle body once you put it back always disconnect your negative terminal from your battery it resets the computer then after like 30mins connect the battery again and start your engine don't give no gas. It should be right then.

      Check the Throttle Position Sensor and the Mass Air Flow sensor, when I clean my MAF sensor it makes a huge difference in the way my truck runs

    So I’m having an issue when the air conditioning is running, at a stop, traffic, stop light etc, it will surge up and down from 750-450. Ver noticeable. Could this be the issue? Haven’t stalled yet. It’s also odd it only does it when ac is on.

      I also have the same issue but in 2006 kia rio my suspect might be the magnetic clutch on ac not pretty sure.

    I’ve changed the IAC and the TPS and the Map sensors and cleaned the throttle body and still have the same issue. It become more rough when the AC is on as well.
