I'm 78 and 10 years ago I handed over my set of keys to my son for our Vanagon Service Center. We put it together 10 years previous to that. It remains a going concern run by my son. I moved to an off grid solar install shop. I'll build this Vanagon and send it his way. Nice Father's Day video, Chris. It's a memory flogger for me - we had some fun times at that shop. I dig your take on this kit - very nice build. Thanks for sharing!
I have the Camper version of this kit…..I believe it goes all the way back to the early ‘80’s. I’ve never built it, but seeing your video Chris has given me some inspiration. 👍🏾
I am a real fan of this model, I already have 17 of them. I really like this model. I was very happy when Revell repackaged this version of the Bus because previously only the camper was available and the older editions (from 80s - 90s) cost more.
I built the camper version of this kit about a year ago. It had been in my stash over 20 years. It's a bit fiddly but turned out pretty good in the end.
That is a cool kit . I remember being a kid and walking thru junkyards, these V W buses were everywhere! No joke , and V W Bugs , everywhere. Cool kit and video . Drilled holes nice . Mike 😊
I love VW vans! Yes, this particular one has been around for many years in different variants, including one that had UN markings, and there was also a Westfalia Joker camper version, which I would love to see reissued. As usual, great job on this kit and this is another one to add to the list along with the Easy Click "Bay Window" van that came out a couple of years ago. That UK plate on the decal sheet would be inaccurate as registrations ending in E in that format dated back to the late 1960s, long before this particular van came out. It's a pet peeve of mine with Italeri truck kits as well, which always get the UK format wrong regardless of the age of the truck.
Reminds me our shuttle van we had at our missile site in Northern Greece, 1981-82.. it came to us brand new in dark green but our site commander thought it stood out... so he had a local guy paint in brown and yellow with silver hub caps.. looked like a hot dog!! I remember one day someone got off and opened the side door too far and it came off!! Lucky we had a full load of guys we got it back on...
Excellent work! This would be perfrct with some mega bloks Ninja Turtle figures that should fit inside. With some paint and mods, this would make a great Ninja turtle party van. God bless you and yours. Praying for you!
That kit came out in a few versions, including a pop-up camper version which I have. Still haven't built it yet but this video might give me some incentive to do so. As usual Chris, outstanding build and review. Rock on Brother!
You are right. Basically it is the vanagon (camper). The Magnum P.I. hit the market right after the Camper. It is the old bus in a new box with the wrong scale on it. In reality the meassures are scaled in 1/24. There was never a 1/25 by Revell or either on the market ;) The T3 came into the market 1982 in the US and Germany. There was never a chrome tree. The trees are still the same. Nothing changed. Take a look to the lettering of the logo on the rear hatch (Vanagon) or the side markers. All hints for the US mold (no differents to the German issue at all)
Only the tires have changed because the tires from the 80's have Firestone lettering and also have "Made in Japan" written on them. Apparently, because of copyright, Revell made new tires.
Yes, it was Magnum p.i. Vanagon released in 1982, along with Volkswagen Vanagon Camper, VW Westfalia Camper Joker 2, Volkswagen Bus, Vanagon Camper (new box), Vanagon Microbus, & the Vanagon Paramedic.
One flaw with the decal sheet is the license plates are 1960s rather than 1980s - this is particularly noticeable with the white-on-black UK, Italy and Florida ones all of which were obsolete by the time the T3 came along.
Very nice build. You always do a great job.Good old vw vans just don't get trapped behind one going up hill
I like to see someone do Jo Han models they had some that would be nice to have again just a thought

Man Chris you sure make building look easy and you hand brush with ease .
This van came out really good the white walls set it off

I would have loved to have one of those, when they first came out. Thanks for the build, looks great.
Very cool kit. A big potencial for several kind of customizations. I do really love it.
Great video Chris, keep em coming, I'll keep watching.
Looking forward to this build!

Revell also makes a 07344 camper van of this kit as well as several of the t2 type vans. my uncle had one for years
Great job Chris, it looks awesome.
Nice build of a very neat kit. Excellent work with all of the details. Thanks for sharing.
Great unbox review & build 😀👍🏻👏
Yeah, I think I’m going to need one of these, along with the camper version. Nice job on the build.
Sweet T3 bus build Chris! Definitely giving myself inspiration to build up mine!
Great job Mr Chris’s

Oduševljen sam.
Very cool mate👍
According to Scalemates it traces back to 1982, the Magnum version was the second of the model to be released
This remains me of little miss sunshine
It is the bus from magnum pi

Another great video. Do you ever use an airbrush or can rattle cans do the job all the way?
It magnum pi island Hopper
Guess it's really that old tool, as Revell Germany doesn't state it's new tooling or anything on the page for that kit. Nice build.

I do remember someone building a corvair pickup out of a vw kit early SAE magazine?
yes. is exactly the old vanagon Kit. Ambulance and Magnum p.i Kit
all parts are the same 80s Kit
PLEASE, what type of adhesive are you using with that brush????
Was it released earlier with a camper version? Thanks for the review!
Yes it has can't remember what the Revell code number is but I seen it in my local model shop.
@@markmccormack635 Thanks Mark for your reply!
Hola Amigo, Excelente trabajo, que pegamento es el de la botellita roja?
I have to assume this is the RoG version of the bus that will be the movie licensed "Stranger Things" version from Revell USA
Does this still have the too-soft vinyl tires from the older issues?
Unfortunately, no, the tires in the new set are not the same as in the old releases.
Is this the same kit that will be in the Stranger Things Surfer Boy Pizza van kit?
Yes, but it is not yet known what new parts Revell will add to this set.
So, it *is* the VW TC Bus... I'll see myself out.
The Magnum PI kit was 1/25 scale and this one says 1/24 scale, so probably not the same molding.
It's just Revell's mistake, or... a marketing ploy... So that someone could think that this is a new tool.
