The Dodge Charger is a model of automobile marketed by Dodge in various forms over eight generations since 1966.
The first Charger was a show car in 1964.[1][2] A 1965 Charger II concept car resembled the 1966 production version.[3]
In the United States, the Charger nameplate has been used on mid-size cars, personal luxury coupes, subcompact hatchbacks, and full-size sedans.
The third generation Charger was introduced for the 1971 model year. Chrysler's B platform was modified to meet new emissions and safety regulations. Available in six different packages with cosmetic changes, including a split grill, semi-fastback rear window, and a ducktail spoiler.
The 1973 and 1974 Chargers were similar to the 1971s, with minor differences in the grille and headlamps. The 1973 and 1974 Chargers also featured new quarter windows, which were larger and shaped differently than the quarter windows seen on the 1971 and 1972 models.
The increase in sales was primarily due to the elimination of the Dodge Coronet two-door, which meant Dodge offered the two-door intermediate-size body style only as the Charger (although the Coronet two-door would reappear in 1975).
The third generation Charger debuted for the 1971 model year with a new "fuselage" sheet metal and a new split grille. The interiors were like those of the E-body and were now shared by the Plymouth B-body, the Plymouth Satellite Sebring, and the Road Runner. The hidden headlights were now optional. A rear spoiler and a "Ramcharger" hood were new options. This hood featured a pop-up scoop mounted above the air cleaner controlled by a vacuum switch under the dash. On Plymouth Road Runners, it was called the "Air Grabber" hood and was previously used on the Coronet R/T and Super Bee.
Dodge also merged its Coronet and Charger lines. From 1971, all four-door B-bodies were badged as Coronets and all two-door B-bodies as Chargers. Thus, for only one year, the Super Bee became part of the Charger lineup, after which it was discontinued. From 1971 to 1974, Charger models used the Coronet's VIN prefix "W".
Several other models were carried over from 1970, including the 500, R/T, and SE. Sales of the R/T declined due in part to higher insurance costs and gasoline prices. A total of 63 Hemi RTs were built that year, marking its last appearance in any production car, and 2,659 with other engines. The 1971 model year was also the last for the 440 Six-Pack engine, which could still be mated to a 4-speed manual transmission with an optional Hurst shifter and the automatic. In the Super Bee's final year, the 340 became a $44 option over the standard, low-compression 383 V8.
The "Hi-Impact" colors were discontinued after the 1971 model year; with a 1971-only "Citron Yella".
The name Charger was also used in Brazil as a performance model based on the Dart (A-Body) (1971-80). - Авто та транспорт
your eye sight is better than mine was at one tinne a professional model builder when I was younger
Great looking - I have a soft spot for Chargers.
Great job. I have this kit and had NO clue what to do with the horrible kit headlights. Thanks for the info and motivation.
Another great Mopar build Chris. Keep um coming
Did you say "Slime Lime"? 🤣😂🤣😂
That is AWESOME...I will be using that myself from now on!! 😁👍🏾
hahahaha.. i love it. lol
Stage V made HEMI Heads to bolt onto 440 blocks
Now I need this kit
Nice looking kit. It appears to be well engineered, which is something I rarely say about Round 2 kits. Nice job building the kit. It looks great. Thanks for sharing.
Stage V Engineering makes a kit to adapt a 426 hemi head to a 440 wedge block.
That explains the Stage V decals, thanks!
Your choice of color really sets this car off well.
Got my order in for this kit, but I forgot the last edition only included the 440 's (1-2-1) exhaust manifolds but most of the Hemi parts, too, but since I've been building models since 1964, I have enough correct stock Hemi exhausts (1-1-1-1) in my spare parts to build the correct Hemi engine. Thanks for re-releasing this kit. Besides, I can use the 440 exhaust manifolds of this engine on the Warlock !
Fantastic build Chris. My favorite Charger body and one of my favorite Mopars. I do have GM and Ford stuff in my stash but my Mopars rule ! Thanks for the great build and I hope to see that Dodge L 700 tractor with car hauler trailer soon. 😀
One of my favorite musclecars along with it's Plymouth Road Runner/GTX counterpart. I'd love to own the real thing.
Awesome build
Great job
when your building a model of that caliber take it nice an slow
Great job. Looks awesome.
Stunning paint job and colour!!
Great build. I have always liked Mopars. Great video and review, have a nice day.
Dig the colors. Really like the dash wood grain!
Thanks,Chris
Sweet build Chris.
Color great model looks real thanks
Very nice kit Round2. I love the extra engine detail. HPIGUYS did it justice as usual and in no time too. Thx Chris.
Looks like they have the wrong exhaust manifolds and the rear end looks like an 8 3/4 I do believe that still would have been a Dana 60 in that car
Nice looking ride.
Wow Mr Chris beautiful Job ❤
Very good. 🏁
Great job mate 👍
It looks excellent what a great job, and it looks like a great kit to build 👍👍
grandma had one, but it was brown !! (she traded in her 1969 442 ragtop for it)
Nice build 😁
very nice build.. lots of good info.. thx 4 sharing.. vinny
Looks great as always Chris always enjoy your videos an thanks for the time you invest in your video's 👍🏻👍🏻
Great looking build! My Aunt had one it was yellow; it looked like a banana!! 😂 Nice looking kit round 2 love that box art.
Your auto models were always good but lately wow! Beautiful work. And i get the impression--maybe wrong--that you work quickly.
You are correct, about 8-9 hours per kit is all over two days. Thanks!
Chris, can you share the name of the Krylon Fusion green with me? I wasn't able to make out the name of the color when you showed it.
Thanks for that and yet another perfect review and build of a kit that I will certainly be purchasing when it comes out. Rock on Brother!
A Mopar sighting!
You do great work for the pace that you work at. Do you ever get burnt out?
I sure do. I think all hobbyists get in a stale point and need to take a break.
Sometimes I skip a build and only do one video in that week, or I'll do a review of some tools, etc.
The 440 as a Hemi wasn't offered by Mopar. It was however buildable aftermarket. PAW back in the day offered the parts to convert a high block into a Hemi.
Nice build as always. The original '70s kit had optional wheels, headers and other hot rod parts.
It's ashamed Round 2 cheaps out on the remakes!!! But it's their loss. Others are truly stepping up!!!
A company called Stage V Engineering also came up with Hemi style heads in the late 80s.
👍👍
In terms of using the rubbing alcohol to clear up the Sharpie mistakes, I guess you have to wait till the paint is fully cured and not use too much of it, am I right? That cleaned up very nicely and I love the bright colors those older cars came in. I don't recall whether this is a newly tooled kit or a reissue, but it looks like a well detailed model.
Dodge and Plymouth never made a 440 hemi, they're strictly 426 cubic inches, Hemis also didn't come with air conditioning, especially with an air grabber hood, the compressor won't clear the scoop base. Nice build though.
I don’t know the vintage of this kit, but there was a Stage V Engineering in the late 80s that came out with Hemi style heads for a 440.
@@ensignjimmy3237 this is a 1998 tooling of this car, yes I seem to remember Stage V heads, BUT they weren't original to this particular car!!
@@jamesharrington4923 - obviously they weren’t as any gearhead would know lol. Someone else posted that this engine is from a different kit. The description on the box is very misleading not mentioning the car isn’t stock.
@@ensignjimmy3237 No the kit is modified to resemble a 71 Hemi charger, but looks like the same 440 block with.hemi heads, valve covers and air grabber setup included, but if it were mine I'd take the hemi and 4sp from the 1970 super bee kit and put in this kit, I'm a 4spd guy, so that's what I'd do with it.
U always get my votes on ur good build no need for model shows.i got 2 of the older kits built. .thanks for sharing
A/C on a Hemi -- Not Available.. Bench seat in this one ... Glad to see they made factory "Bright Tips" is what Mopar called them...
Look up Stage V Engineering. They made Hemi heads for a 440.
37: 25 Where did you get the background guitar music? I've particularly enjoyed that piece on your other videos and would like to use it in mine.
The parts you called elephant manifolds(?) Are for a 440 car! Exhaust ports on hemis are all separate. Does the kit come with the hemi manifolds? The guy before my comment is right, no 440 hemis!
A company called Stage V Engineering made Hemi heads for them in the 80s. Not sure if that fits the vintage of this kit or not.
Nice model, love the work put into it. But I still prefer the 1973 charger
What type of glue do you use
But they didn't come with the slant six engine?
im blown away a amt kit and the drive shaft, exhaust and rear axle is not molded in,....Ill buy this one
Has anyone had any experience with spray can automotive touch up paint on a plastic car model? Are there any issues painting over primer as a base coat? Any compatibility issues at all? Thank you.
Lots of folks use Duplicolor from auto parts stores to get factory colors.
As long as you lay a primer (I use their brand primer when I use that paint) it shouldn't melt the plastic.
Thank you for your answer. Have you had any experience with the brand automotivetouchup. (all one word) spray paints? Looks like they offer a good selection of factory colors.
One other question. I hope to do a headliner and would like to incorporate bows made from styrene. What size styrene strips would you recommend to duplicate late 60's-early 70's Mopars? Thank you.
1/25 scale that is.
Must be a base model charger R/T, with column shift and centre armrest 🤣🤣
this is not an accurate '71 426 Hemi Charger kit. the Hemi parts are modeled after the Stage V Hemi conversion for RB engines from the 90's. this is why the kit has the 440 A/C set up, which wasn't available in any 426 Hemi optioned car. the Stage V parts were included in the custom '71 Super Bee kit, and are now part of the R/T kit. with some modifications and kitbashing, you can build an accurate 426 Hemi Charger from this kit however......
0:26 440 is not a hemi hemi heads don't fit a 440 two different blocks
Omg
Stage V Engineering built Hemi heads for 440s in the late 80s. Someone else here pointed out this engine is from a different kit.
Everybody else is going to say it that is not right 426 three deuces with a six-pack hood scoop on a 426 nope round two screwed up again what's new now we're paying $35 for this piece of
I mean…if you had parts from another kit, then this isn’t bad. But yeah, fail on AMT. I know this kit tooling had 3 engines over the years , enough to confuse them…but still
The engine is from a different kit as someone posted elsewhere. A company named Stage V Engineering built Hemi style heads for the 440.
440 Hemi wasn't a real thing
OMG
Which part wasn’t real?
The 440 HEMI isn't a real engine
A company named Stage V Engineering came up with a set of Hemi style heads for 440s back in the late 80s. I don’t know when this kit was originally released but that may be the answer.
440 HEMI? ah no.
OMG
No only 426 hemi engines
@@terrysanders8092 do you comment omg for everything? Lol
@@jonthebuildingmanager2896 lol
@@terrysanders8092 jagoff.
It's a Hemi, who said 440?
We were discussing the decals I show on screen and talk about.
Excellent video by the way 👍 as usual
might pass on this one was gonna get it till i saw the 2 peice chassis just make it all in one peice the chassis i hate that.....i wonder if u can use the dukes chassis for it though
Dodge did not build a 440 HEMI
440 HEMIs are 426s bored and stroked
Just bored. Smallest stroker crank will put it at 472 inches.
Stage V Engineering made Hemi heads…hence Stage V Hemi
Wrong exhaust manifolds, write company for correct ones
