I live in Pittsburgh and as soon as I cross into Washington County, I'm surrounded by Hyundais and Kias. It's as if there's a law that you need to own one to live there. (In fact, I wasn't even aware of those brands until I moved to the area about 15 years ago.) I would not believe you if you said that either of those brands were going out of business.
For the first time in my life, at near 70 years of age, I may never own another vehicle. I don't own one now. I'm in decent shape and it has nothing to do with my health. But the unaffordability of vehicles in these times has made it virtually impossible to afford even a used car or truck. Especially when on a limited income. The country is rapidly going down the tubes.
@@MarkSmith-js2pu I thought about that, but where I live, having anything with a rechargeable battery is prohibited as they can catch fire. If I owned a home I would get one. I am in Dubai and almost all taxis are Toyota and Hyundai and drivers almost always say Toyota are probably best but Hyundai are very good also. They are all hybrids !
In 1990, small automaker Hyundai merged with bankrupt Kia. 30 years later, Hyundai-Kia is world's 3rd largest automaker. It doesn't matter whether it's GM or Stellantis. Hyundai is going to turn it around and be #1 in the world. I think GM was picked because it's more American.
Hyundai-Kia is rising fast in USA. Doubled sales in last 20 years to surpass Stellantis and Honda group. Only behind GM, Toyota group, Ford group. Starting to feel protectionist sentiment from American politicians. So by making vehicles with American GM, Americans wouldn't feel as threatening. Hyundai and GM are going to take over the American market. Once GM gets Hyundai's legendary 10-year 100,000-mile warranty, it's over for the Japanese and German automakers. Their 5-year junk warranty can't never compete again.
In the purchasing department we called the "non-binding agreement" a Letter of Intent. Our vendors could wipe their butt's with them if our forecasts didn't materialize. Laughable.
Hyundai is going to take over American auto market through GM. Hyundai needs an American company to do that. Hyundai Motor Group (Hyundai, Kia, Genesis) is world's 3rd largest automaker, only behind Toyota group and VW group. In USA, Hyundai is 4th largest automaker, only behind GM, Toyota group, Ford group. Hyundai surpassed Stellantis and Honda group.
Hyundai-Kia doubled USA sales in only 20 years, claiming 11% market share. The greatest automotive feat of all time in the most competitive market in the world. Nobody can stop this momentum. Hyundai only needs an American front company to totally take over USA.
I think it's time for all of the automakers to rethink their plans, we need reliable inexpensive vehicles that can be serviced easily and cheaply, all of their trashy tech gizmos turn out to be unreliable and too expensive
I drive a 1988 E300 204,000 mi on the clock. Drives like a dream still. Car manufactures need to go back to the drawing board and study Mercedes w124 platform period. Manufacturers are producing hot garbage across all industries buyer beware.
@@glennso47 yeah, and they also used to produce their own vehicles(remember Lanos and Leganza)back in the mid to late eighties, early nineties. Don’t quote me on this because this is all from memory. I didn’t use the google machine, this is from 54 years of useless knowledge so the years may be off…and I’ve slept since then 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣💡🤣🤣
The auto shop that I take my car to (right now)has a 2005 Toyota Highlander with 111k miles and looks almost like new. He also has a Pontiac Vibe (2005)that's in great shape with around 100k miles, both of them are selling for $5995
I brought 1998 Prizm that has 33K miles for 2.4K in 2007 when I got my 3 paycheck in CA. I took it to my friend and has all moving parts including junk yard starter that cost $15.00 ps pump that leak for $50.00 and interior parts like door winter strap that pure off and power lock for $25.00 from junk yard. The car was heavy used for another 120K with no issue and I sold it for 2K 8 years later in CT. I also put a used/new tire that I paid $70.00 for all four.
I used to drive a truck and making electric trucks are senseless, absurd and ridiculous. A loaded semi truck with 200 gallons of fuel can go almost 1000 miles, maybe a little more. No electric truck will go that far on a full charge
The big trains run on 2 stroke supercharged diesel engines, with pistons the size of your dinner plate, & there is no way that could be adapted to the way a person drivers their personal vehicle. Love your videos, & thank you for answering so many of my questions :-)
Wait a moment, GM had the EV-1, & most that had them, liked them... with the good batteries. But, GM scraped that line - sad to say - as most that had them wanted to keep them. There is even a video out... Who Killed The Electric Car? It is really sad.
I have a1999 Honda crv 287 thousand miles bought it 3 years ago done nothing but breaks exhaust and oil changes every 3k still drive once a year from northern Ohio back home to Fort Meyers Beach Florida no problems
Memorandum of understanding is what GM does to alter the standing g contract with the Uaw with the Uaw approval basically. I would think the non binding portion means it’s a proposal but not a commitment
I have a gmc sierra 1500, 2018…and a Hyundai Elantra (17)…..both had and have issues. Hyundai warranty sucks, because the dealer has idiots fixing cars. Put in new keyless entry, 2 years later, battery on car died…went to open door with hidden key, key is wrong key, they didn’t Roscoe new fob key with old one, had to slim Jim into car to pop hood.
My 2002 Corolla with 65K excellent shape no accident with all new parts including suspension can not bring 10K my sister hate this car and she want to get rid of it for $200.00. I disagreed and I keep this car but my family want to get used KIA!
Scotty thumbing you tube Tow Truck driver was having to pick up a brand new jeep wagoneer 44 miles owner had burning smell to haul it back to the dealer.
Scotty, that means when things go "south" they can go there separate ways without the lawyers being involved. Because we all know when layers get involved the lawyers are out to make lots of money.
Hyundai is a larger company and very much like to be in control of things. GM wouldn’t be taking over Hyundai nor forcing them to do anything. It would be Hyundai controlling GM if anything.
Scotty is 100% correct about EV's. EV drivetrains are best suited to small, lightweight, and very low drag coefficient vehicles. This is the concept behind the German LOREMO concept vehicle and the Aptera. Both, 2 seat, 3 wheel, homologated motorcycles. Such a vehicle would make a highly practical grocery getter in any sunny and warm climate.
I have a non binding memorandum of understand that I will never buy a GM or Hyundai vehicle. However it is quite binding that I would not have any rolling pile of crap that GM or Hyundai make. Stellntis is also on my list of no buy. I did have a 1998 and 2008 Dodge Truck and they were good trucks but the newer ones are a never buy. Plus RAM is likely going out of business.
GM will drag Hyundai down even further. Remember Daewoo? GM had their hands in Daewoo and look how that ended. GM was also involved in Suzuki and look what happened there. Collaborating with GM is a sure way to fail.
Scotty living here in So Cal I see so many problems with electric cars. Biggest complaints I hear from people who LOVE them (I mean they own 4 Teslas!) is they can't get parts or work done on them . One guy said his wife got in a minor fender bender and at the 6 week point they still say it could be two more months before the car is repaired. Also last week a trailer hauling batteries from the post of Long Beach caught fire. They had to let them burn for almost 3 days because they burn so hot and you can't use water to put them out. Yes it shut down parts of the port and a major connecting bridge as well as several streets around it. Even though we have a lot of charging stations here, there are still way too many problems with these cars. Keep preaching because the media and big business isn't.
I am not a fan of Hyundai either. I still remember hearing one that had the defective 4 cylinder engine that made an unmistakable ticking sound and I swore that thing could blow at any moment! No it was not my vehicle.
Sold a Grand. Marquis had 245000 miles . One water pump and belts. Best car I ever had . Your car should go 200k with regular maintenance. @@melissasmess2773
Yes, nothing good can come from GM collaborating with an Asian car company, except the Toyota Matrix you own, that was also sold as a Pontiac Vibe with a little badge engineering. GM had several Geo models during the 1990's, including the Geo Prizm, a rebadged Toyota Sprinter. GM had a joint factory with Toyota called NUMMI. GM has sold various rebadged Isuzus, Suzukis, Subarus and Daewoos. Eventually, GM bought out Daewoo when the Korean company went bankrupt. When GM owned SAAB, the SAAB 9-2 was just a Subaru WRX with a SAAB grille and branding.
"Potential collaboration projects center on co-development and production of passenger and commercial vehicles, internal combustion engines and clean-energy, electric and hydrogen technologies. The two leading global OEMs also will review opportunities for combined sourcing in battery raw materials, steel and other areas." This is going to be fascinating to see how long this one lasts. Their one with Honda to work on electric cars lasted four years - long enough for Honda to have one electric car (the Prologue) built with GM technology that is for sale now. I am guessing the over/under on this new collaboration is about four years as well.
Kia and Hyundai do really well in Europe and are super reliable. I do wonder though whether this merge'll affect european sales. After all GM got rid of Vauxhall and Chevrolet of europe bc they weren't making them any money.
@scottykilmer 2002 Ford Focus ZX5 2.0Zetec Motor gas cap light keeps coming on which then progresses to a check engine light. I’ve replaced the gas cap 3 times…
Hyundai/Kia got their quality way higher rhen in early 2000s you just need to watch for oil consumption as they burn oil. Scotty didnot really mention in all these years that Camry had a huge problem with valve steam seals and a lot of times with Cat converters.
@scottykilmer There was a container fire in a shipping yard in Montreal. Quebec, Canada this week. The container was full of lithium for car batteries. Perhaps you can use the coverage in your next video!
Would love to see you go over a Hyundai Santa Cruz with the non-turbo 4 cylinder engine and 8 speed transmission...come on someone...get it over there for him...please....lol
Thats what a tentative contract is called till all tenants are finalized. We see that every four years during union negotiations. Hyuandai though. Yikes
By the way, I was thinking electric cars to me is the equivalent to a Casio watch back in the day a proper car such as a Mercedes even a Chevy with a LS motor cars are like a Rolex watch. and the government is trying to force these companies to make Casio watches that you throw away in the garbage the first time something goes wrong with it
This is just a stop gap for the corporate types to keep their salaries going for as long as they can. No one is steering the ship anymore. It's just every man for himself.
When John DeLorean wanted to merge the DeLorean car company with Chrysler, Lee Iacocca remembered what his Dad tolled him. “Never put two losers together”.
Battery electric locomotives are now a thing (maybe still in testing). To make battery electric trains? No! The plan is to mix them in with the diesels to create a Prius like hybrid train.
The two biggest battery companies are Korean companies. One is in bed with Ford and one with GM . There was a lawsuit that I believe ford lost for stolen proprietary information
I'm no genius or legal expert but I get a feeling that after they sign an agreement or jm tries to do business with Hyundai they're going to end up shutting them down
Because GM can’t get low budget poorly designed woeful vehicles from Daewoo anymore. Meanwhile it seems that GM are selling the tooling of their woeful offerings to Vinfast. I guess that GM are also trying to flog the same to Lada.
This has nothing to do with electric vehicles, it has everything to do with manufacturing GM in hyundai's factory overseas. I wouldnt doubt GM looking to get into the trans pacific partnership through Canada, and making money, sorry dividends for its stock holders.
Why don’t they do electric cars like electric buses in the city where the wires are over head. String high voltage wires all over America. It will be beautiful. Each car comes with a wooden stick when the electric pickup slips off. Probably only 3000 or 4000 electocusions a year.
So does this non binding agreement just mean none of them are responsible when their horse crap doesnt stick to the wall when both companies throw their crap at it?

Taxis drivers would know what’s reliable and what’s not.
Like the diesel Mercedes in the EU way back when.
It could be worse they could merge with Stellantis.

Sue the GM CEO!
I think it's time for all of the automakers to rethink their plans, we need reliable inexpensive vehicles that can be serviced easily and cheaply, all of their trashy tech gizmos turn out to be unreliable and too expensive

Well, GM and Hyundai might as well. Lots of GM cars are made in Korea.
But they are made by Daewoo which is a separate company from Hyundai.
@@glennso47 yeah, and they also used to produce their own vehicles(remember Lanos and Leganza)back in the mid to late eighties, early nineties. Don’t quote me on this because this is all from memory. The auto shop that I take my car to (right now)has a 2005 Toyota Highlander with 111k miles and looks almost like new. He also has a Pontiac Vibe (2005)that's in great shape with around 100k miles, both of them are selling for $5995
The Vibe is actually a Toyota Matrix, good cars, Scotty and I both own one! I would buy the Highlander, they last much longer than the 4 cylinder.

Wait a moment, GM had the EV-1, & most that had them, liked them... with the good batteries. But, GM scraped that line - sad to say - as most that had them wanted to keep them. There is even a video out... Who Killed The Electric Car? It is really sad.

Poor Hyundai. Everything GM touches dies. Are they going to force Hyundai to make Pickups and SUVs? The only thing that GM can make money on.

They agree to keep prices higher than a kite.

Said the man who lives on a 🐓🐓🐤🐣🐓 🤨
Scotty living here in So Cal I see so many problems with electric cars.
Great videos thanks
Yea! Car monopolies! Can't wait!
I am not a fan of Hyundai either. I still remember hearing one that had the defective 4 cylinder engine that made an unmistakable ticking sound and I swore that thing could blow at any moment! No it was not my vehicle.

GM worked with Toyota decades back. Seems Chevy does this when they look to put out a smaller entry level vehicle.

Nuclear submarines are electric too. They only need a swap out on their charge every five years.
The reactors on subs last about thirty years and can’t be replaced.

Hyundai/Kia got their quality way higher rhen in early 2000s you just need to watch for oil consumption as they burn oil. Scotty didnot really mention in all these years that Camry had a huge problem with valve steam seals and a lot of times with Cat converters.

Great! They can make Chevys that are easy to steal. What a deal.
Why don’t they do electric cars like electric buses in the city where the wires are over head. String high voltage wires all over America. It will be beautiful. Each car comes with a wooden stick when the electric pickup slips off. Probably only 3000 or 4000 electocusions a year.
