I agree, why not offer a base jeep like I bought in 2008 for $20 k in Canada. Yes it wasn't loaded with options but for the money it was way better than the junk they sell now.
The sad part is Jeep’s look nice. If they would just let Americans, Canadians, and/or Japanese workers design and build build them with quality parts they’d be awesome.
No they don’t. Wranglers are bloated behemoths (like most pick em ups today). I had a 2005 (mechanically a p.o.s. So that hasn’t changed - lol) that was tiny compared to the new models. A wrangler is supposed to be a two door off roader not an suv to take the kinderlings to school!
In my opinion, that's true of most Stellantis products. They look great! The ownership experience though? That's questionable at best. I love my 14 Challenger RT, but I probably won't ever buy another Stellantis product unless they have some sort of MASSIVE turnaround in quality control.
Build a 2 door, manual shift, Wrangler with cloth seats, soft top, a decent radio and none of the electronic garbage. Sell it for $30,000 and I’ll come and look at it.
I have a 2008 jeep grand Cherokee. Put a remanufactured engine @ 170,000 miles. Much cheaper then buying any new vehicle. If I get another 150,000. I'm happy
I've got a 90s Jeep with a 4.0L that's a daily driver. If I had to buy a new car I wouldn't touch a Jeep after 2001. It's only because of love of the brand they've strung along this crap for 2 plus decades
Had a XJ from 1996 with a 2.5 litre turbo diesel engine (made for Europe). Drove the car until it was 24 years old with 240.000 km. The car was still in a driveable condition but fuel prices and taxes for such vehicles skyrocket in Germany where I life. So I sold it.
Yup.....93 Grand Cherokee ZJ and 89 YJ....4.0 and 4.2 L ....run awesome, are very easy to repair and parts are available or simply fabricated....my ZJ was Ziebart undercoated back when new and the only rust is in the rockers....next week it gets newly made rock sliders welded in.....almost 400K on it and so far had the trans, transfer case and rear end rebuilt or replaced....it just keeps running and running....and on an icy snowy -40 day will still get me up the alley and into my garage. Oh..and the clock is at 436,000 km.
Jeeps are crazy expensive. Stellantis should make only 3 Jeep models and drop those crappy rebadged Fiats. Offer 3 Jeep models and make sure they're built as well as a Honda or Toyota. Then they'll sell.
If I was Stellantis I'd only make the Wrangler,Cherokee and Grand Cherokee but get rid of that crappy 3.6l engine. The Gladiators look good but don't have s*** for bed space. For the money your better off buying a truck imo.
I had two Jeeps back in the day, a CJ-7 304 V8 and a Cherokee 4.0. The V8 sucked gas, but gas was pretty inexpensive back then. The 4.0 was great. I sure didn't pay $80-$100k for either. Car companies need to make affordable, dependable cars.
Friend of mine bought the Jeep Panda, and his console screen started dying after just one year. Turns out it's a known factory defect with the model and Jeep will not honor the factory warranty to fix them...... Costs several thousand to replace the console by the way.
I have a 2008 Jeep Wrangler & the only saving grace is that it’s old enough that even an amateur like me can work on the piece of trash. Do not buy late model Jeeps! They are garbage
Have a 2015 Cherokee Limited, 147K miles, good power, mileage, only minor issues (except for the sometimes hesitation in 1st and 2nd gear) , good off-road. Good power, surprising high mileage, good mountain car, good highway car. I’ve only had minor problems, brakes last forever ( but, yes, I tend or drive relaxed).
I drove the military Jeep in the RVN and when back stateside in 1973 purchased a used Willy. Have owned Jeeps since, from Wrangler to Cherokee. The brand started tanking a decade ago when my 2015 Jeep dies, it will not be replaced with another.
The Wrangler and Gladiator are the only two current models that aren't compete jokes. And the biggest problem with them, other than Jeep's notorious wiring issues, is that they cost about $15-20,000 more than they should.
Yeah, I have a 22 Gladiator Rubicon. Put a front bumper and winch on, and a nice bed cover. I love the thing. 19k miles, no problems yet 🤞. But yeah, ridiculously expensive
One of my friends works for a steel mill, the mill was going to go out of business so all the employees got together and hired a corporate lawyer and now 3850 people own the steel mill, they bought it for pennies on the dollar and more less bought it for scrap steel price and now it make some of the best steel in the country, produce steel for automobiles, trains, shipping container, and all profit is split between the employees. Every single one of the employees are now millionaires.
Buy a XJ in good shape, do the repairs, then you have one of the best iconic SUV's to grace the planet. With that awesome inline 6 cyl engine. Incredible off road ability, infinite designs and mods to play with. Jeep needs an American owner, bring prices down and make basic bullet proof 4wds like they used too 😊
The 2020 Camry's had a fuel pump recall too. The dealer said my Camry missed the recall by a week or two. I learned about the recall when my 2020 started stalling some and wouldn't accelerate on hot days.
@@XAVargasX0206 They're good if you're a mechanic. All the offroaders that I know that love their jeeps are basically mechanics who are frequently upgrading them.
A Rubicon is one of the most capable best vehicles you can buy, don't follow the propaganda, the regular cherokee, the renegade, the compass, yeah crap but not a wrangler rubicon..no get your facts straight on that one!
My Renegade was a good vehicle and I took it up trails I only ever saw side by side and 4 wheelers on. They can do real back country driving. Obviously not Wrangler level. Mine was a Trail Hawk. I do trust Scotty's estimation their longevity though. I got rid of it before 50k miles. It was fun and never gave a me a problem, a little gutless though.
They get a lot of hate, but I always thought the Trailhawk Renegades were pretty cool 😂. At least on paper, I read they’re the best off-road micro/compact vehicle you can get.
@@NothingButSilicone It was pretty unstoppable if you didn't get stupid. I beat up the undercarriage and plastic moldings on the bottom sides good but the skid plates took all the damage and I replaced the plastic moldings making it look good as new. Sold it during the 2022 run on cars when used cars were appreciating assets for the first time in all of history. Bought new in 2018 for $25,350 and sold it in 2022 for $21,500 with 30k on the clock. Made out like a BANDIT! Now I drive a 2010 Crown Victoria and I LOVE IT!
They remodeled /redesigned the "Jeep" so that it doesn't look like a Jeep anymore, and destroyed the reliability, thinking that " fancy" would sell these piles of crap for their high prices. I've owned 8 Jeeps over the years, but no more
I'm a Jeep owner and fan. We bought a YJ in the 80's and bought a JK Unlimited Sahara in 2013 and a JL Unlimited Sahara in 2018. All were brand new from the dealers lot. We paid $13K for the YJ, $31K for JK and $45K for the JL. We still own the two Unlimiteds. I've considered trading in and buying newer Jeeps on several occasions since 2021. Jeeps are simply overpriced. Even though I would like a new Jeep and could afford one. I simply refuse to pay what I consider to be rip-off prices. New JL Unlimited Rubicons that I would be interested are mid $60K on up over $100K. Jeeps prices are absurd, even for an ardent fan of the Wrangler.
I bought a brand new jeep renegade. 3 years later the transmission went despite routine maintenance. With the warranty and an extended warranty that was not cheap the cost of the repair was over 1k.
I bought a 2021 Compass three years ago and I just had my engine replaced at 46,0000 KM. What's even crazier, I bought mine for $32,000 CAN. The same model is currently selling for $52,000.
I own one Jeep: a 2000 Cherokee that I just replaced the intake/exhaust manifold gasket on. It took about four hours... good luck performing that kind of maintenance that quickly on anything Jeep has built in the last 20 years...
We recently rented a Jeep Wrangler 4xe Safari for a month. I was shocked how good the gas mileage was in Hybrid mode. We averaged 20 MPG all month city and hi-way. It was quieter than I expected too. We never plugged it in. We just let the vehicle recharge with braking and non accelerating driving. It was a good vehicle. Not worth 55k but a good vehicle.
Most roads have crowns, that is they are higher in the middle, to shed water. Most highways also have superelevation for curves. The outer edge of the curve is higher than the inner edge to counteract the lateral acceleration of the vehicle as it rounds the curve. So it is hard to find a flat road.
I'm 10 yrs. younger than you , Scotty, and I've owned so MANY different vehicles, I've owned at least one Geo Metro for over 25 yrs. >(great cars, FOR WHAT THEY ARE!), then couldn't buy parts for it, in 2020, so I sold it, and bought a 2006 Toy Cor, for the wifey, and an 2004 Toy Cor for me, did ALL of the maintenance myself, and they're over 200K each, and run : PERFECT!
Bought my first car (2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee Limited X) and I'm pretty happy with it....the newer models LOOK NICE but I've saw enough complaints on Facebook groups to get a previous gen
I wish Suzuki never got conned out of the US market. The Jimny was just too much competition for the Wrangler, now if only the Mahindra Roxor didn't have to jump through legal hoops to make it street legal everywhere
Have you checked prices at Dodge and Ram lately? Now the HEMI is effectively dead and replaced with a POS I6. Stellantis is working to torpedo all of their American brands.
Its my 4th Grand Cherokee Overland. Always loved them. My 23 is amazing, minus the horrible 4XE, which I hate. The lease deal was very sweet with the 7500 back on a 24 months lease, 12K a year. This car is amazing. Its my poor man's Range Rover. I am glad its a lease. Who knows the outcome of them.
my mothers jeep grand cherokee not too long after she had it the touch screen cracked from the heat. The other is the dash wrinkled from the excess heat. livable things. still.
My last Jeep was an 85 CJ7, auto, 4wd, v6. I bought it new. So new, I drove it out of the show room. 5 years of love for that buggy, until my wife said that she knew I loved it, but with the kids finally out of the house, there was no way she would do a long distance in it. It never saw a mechanic and I never had a major problem with it. 5 years later when word got around that I was about to sell it, the phone jumped for 3 days. I got it stuck one time,, when I hung it up on a snow bank with 2 wheels off the ground. I would never park one these latest “Jeeps” in my garage.
I was mildly interested in the Gladiator until I learned about the transmissions self destructing, and even worse that the "fix" was a software update to reduce engine output. So sad.
A relative just filed notice under the state lemon law on a Jeep bought this year. it is sitting in the shop with no parts available to fix it. This is the sixth time brought in for various repairs. I tried to warn him.
My local CDJR has a plan to sell more Jeeps. Literally ALL of the Wranglers and Gladiators have window stickers stating "RED HOT CLEAR THE LOT". Yup, that'll fix sales!
Here’s a funny one the people in Florida were driving Teslas through saltwater that came in from the Gulf of Mexico. Not realizing that will erupt them to catch fire when the salt and electric don’t mix.
Gotta 4 door wrangler 3 years ago with 96k for $26k with tax 3 years ago. Runs great- you do have to maintain- just put an oil cooler thing at 114k miles. Happy with it so far- got it before fiat took over- now they are $50-80k outrageous!
I own a 2015 Cherokee owned it since 3000 miles now has 133,339 and compressor went out 3,400 dollars at dealership and most other mechanics don't have the stuff for the r-1234yf system best price I got from someone who had the equipment was $3,200
WOW! I hope some company buys the Jeep brand out from Stellantis. Things that make me love my older Jeeps that much more. I admit, I do have an excellent mechanic shop that guides me on maintenance and repair!
I do agree with you Scotty. If the buyers of electric cars think that the ownership is going to be cheaper than a ICE car they are in for a very nasty surprise. It will cost at least as much as a ICE car. How else will the government get the fonds they need?
In 1966 I bought my first new Jeep. A CJ5 with the then new V6 engine, a canvas top, a dual range Warren overdrive, a roll bar, the then than optional passenger seat, and a drawbar for towing things. The total was less than $3,200!!!!!!!!!!!!!! They were REAL jeeps back then.something you could work on yourself! I don’t even remember them having a single sensor anywhere!!!! It’s very hard to believe Jeep can’t make a 66’ style CJ5 today for around $22,000, and then they would sell like hotcakes, and also be 50 times more reliable!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
That's still equivalent to $31,000 today, for a rather basic package, that only seems like a bargain because of the dealership price gouging that has become "normal".
As an owner of a Jeep Wrangler , I can confirm that every Jeep owner has a love/hate relationship with their Jeep, So fun to drive, but why aren't they made with better quality.
I just laugh at every Jeep i see still on the road.. as I pass them in my 00’ Toyota Land Cruiser with 280k miles on its V8 and still runs like a spoiled beast… which is good.
Can they dust off the plans for better cars/trucks like Toyotas, etc., from around twenty four years ago, and crank up their production here in the US? One can dream. 🙏😭
The problem with the renegade wasn't that it wasn't made in america in fact it was actually one of their most popular vehicles i mean you go out on the road today you see them everywhere. The problem was that the transmission was utter garbage and the 2.4 had a reputation for burning oil even though they fixed it on the later models. The 1.3 was also described as "bad" and "underpowered" so people just got sick of all the problems and stopped buying them because jeep refused to fix them. Big surprise
No, Stellantis is not ending the Jeep brand, but it has made some changes to the brand and its production: Production adjustments Stellantis has stopped production of the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, two of its flagship models, as part of a production adjustment. The company cited declining sales and high inventory levels as reasons for the decision.
I had a 1988 jeep Cherokee limited top of the line and there was always something wrong with it, so I will never get one again but its 4 wheel drive system was really good better than my xterra
I had planned on owning a Jeep during my lifetime. As you say, all the Jeep owners say NO NO NO! Don't buy one! I'm sorry I won't get a chance to ever own these formerly fine vehicles.

For now, but it won’t last forever.

We have a 2005 Jeep Wrangler Unlimited, still going strong. The straight 6 will never die, simple stupid tech.
Caveman tech.
Hold onto it it can be fixed forever
Never sell it, it's a wonderful car. It's value will increase in the future (not joking).

I have a 2008 jeep grand Cherokee. Put a remanufactured engine @ 170,000 miles. Much cheaper then buying any new vehicle. If I get another 150,000. I'm happy
$65,000 for a Gladiator? My Tacoma does the same thing at $33000! Plus I average 22 MPG!
I've got a 90s Jeep with a 4.0L that's a daily driver. If I had to buy a new car I wouldn't touch a Jeep after 2001. It's only because of love of the brand they've strung along this crap for 2 plus decades
4.0 is best motor jeep ever built
2006 on garbage
2001-2006 we’re still ok
Put just under 180k miles on my 04 bubble body before I let her go. Bought for 7k put 4.5k back in 12yrs.
Miss that yeet machine
Had a Jeep grand Cherokee for 2 weeks……transmission went out. No cap!
Where are the bodies g?
Trannys are kinda sus when these cashmaxers goon to margins for ShaREhOldeRs

Owned the vehicle for about a month.
Also; Transmission went out.
Regrettably I also ain't capping.
Aren’t they those really good Austrian ZF transmissions though?
I call cap. You obviously have an UA-cam account able to post to the community. Please post the service paper saying this.
Cars are 10x more expensive and 10x more unreliable nowadays
Just got a 2018 jeep compass.
Runs fine. No issues yet.
I'm sorry to hear that.
Jeeps are crazy expensive. Stellantis should make only 3 Jeep models and drop those crappy rebadged Fiats. Offer 3 Jeep models and make sure they're built as well as a Honda or Toyota. Then they'll sell.
Yeah I say wrangler, grand cherokee and the gladiator..that's all!
@@fenwayfan1 I'd love to see them re-release the Cherokee KJ. That's a perfect off-roader.
@bettersteps that's the best
My 92 jeep cherokee 390k. Runs just fine.
Friend of mine bought the Jeep Panda, and his console screen started dying after just one year. Turns out it's a known factory defect with the model and Jeep will not honor the factory warranty to fix them...... Costs several thousand to replace the console by the way.
And no prizes for guessing how long the new one lasts 😂
A free piece of crap is still a piece of crap. Truer words were never spoken. 😊

Not true.. latest models much more finer vehicles. Have a 21 turbo wrangler: NEVER had any trouble
56000 miles on it. And 0_60 5.4 Second by the way

Have a 21 wrangler with a diesel bought it new now has 55k miles no problems and 34 mpg highway

GM is terrible at finding a direction to go in. Rudderless leadership.

Jeep used to be quality, back in the day. What has transpired over the decades is simply sad.
I love the Wrangler aesthetic. If they would just engineer a reliable version, I’d happily but one. Won’t be holding my breath however.
I wish Suzuki never got conned out of the US market. The Jimny was just too much competition for the Wrangler, now if only the Mahindra Roxor didn't have to jump through legal hoops to make it street legal everywhere

The other is the dash wrinkled from the excess heat. livable things. still.

Selling the Jeep brand to Toyota would save it.
Hi Scotty, Are you far from the western NC/eastern TN Hurricane disaster? Most of the roads are washed out and will take months to repair.
He’s just west of Nashville in Clarksville.

Scotty you forgot the insurance costs on evs will go sky high.

It's quantity over quality. Quality jobs cut, mistakes pushed off the assembly line and fixed later.
WOW! I hope some company buys the Jeep brand out from Stellantis. Things that make me love my older Jeeps that much more. I admit, I do have an excellent mechanic shop that guides me on maintenance and repair!
I have a 2012 kia soul, gas powered, bought it new, have had no problems at all..............
I was a jeep fanatic but i quit the brand in 2006 and i will never go back
I do agree with you Scotty.
The government won't let them make them that way.
That's still equivalent to $31,000 today, for a rather basic package, that only seems like a bargain because of the dealership price gouging that has become "normal".
@@nicmainville9954haha I was going to say the same thing, 32K for a stock bare bone jeep, that’s still expensive
The best “plan” is for them to build them with much better quality and cut the price 60%.
The prices are out of their minds! That is main reason they aren’t selling!
I am 64 . yes baby 64 . And this guy is golden
Deep learned this lesson in the 90s. Wire they trying to relearn it again
No, Stellantis is not ending the Jeep brand, but it has made some changes to the brand and its production:
Production adjustments
Stellantis has stopped production of the Jeep Wrangler and Grand Cherokee, two of its flagship models, as part of a production adjustment.
I have a 2018 grand Cherokee trailhawk with over 96k miles on it with zero issues and god willing I will put another 96k on it.
Grand Cherokee is a strong brand in itself, like range over even though reliability is crap people still flock to them. Wrangler also
I’ve had 6 Jeeps over the years and I’ll stick to Toyotas 4x4’s now!
