BTW, VW strictly prohibits the use of any fluid flushing machines on their products! One of the best dealership-level repair shops in Europe - Das Auto Service - has investigated this issue due to a rising number of questions from customers as to why they don;'t use any machines, but only use VAG 1924 and the other one for the multitronics. They got in contact with the manufacturers of most VW transmissions - ZF - and with VW of Austria and asked them why the service manuals have never allowed use of any service stations and why VW does not even have a service station for flushing. The answer from both places was that these machines highly overpressurize the transmissions' internals which may cause stuck armatures of the sift-solenoids, blown off seals and all sorts of other issues. Which is why ALL VW/AUDI transmissions are filled by using gravity fill method with VAG 1924.
I once filled the oil from the filter housing with a small funnel (had a spin on filter though). It took about an hour LOL :) Won't be doing it that way again. Great vid as always.
For easy removal of air filter box, you can also remove the plastic hose that goes into the air filter from the left side. Just pull it out while the filter is secured in place. Then you will have some more place to rotate the filter and the drain pipe. Nice video as always :)
Pretty snug getting down to that filter without the battery removal, but you're right that it would save some time. Thomas, you keep on doing the way you like as everybody has an opinion. And of course, if you don't do their way, well, you're doing it totally wrong :)
Yeah, can't win either way. I like sharing info and that's why I tried it this way (and shared it). More people need to do the same... the flat rate industry is "every man for himself" and is starting to spread into the hourly part of the business.
Yep, I say do whatever it takes to get the job done right and if there is an easier way that saves times, then go for it. Great job on showing the 'other' way to do :)
I like these vids it give me confidence to get this done on my car and not worry so much I differently gotta get this done soon I'm at the 86 k mark no issues yet but don't think previous owner change this on my vw I have to get hold of history report
If it's your first time... take the extra time and remove the battery & battery tray. You will have more room & see a lot more. ua-cam.com/video/lceideHkAe8/v-deo.html
it only works on the ccta sadly! But on the cjaa TDI it wont pass the vacuum pump and charge pipe, but there is a handy little space that you can jam the filter housing to hold it while you replace the filter!
Great info & tip! Thank you! Send me a PM if you want some of my youtube channel stickers or a T-Shirt with my logo on it (bit of a wait time) as a thank you!
The "replace what comes out" method is good for getting close, and in the very least it'll get you back to where you were, but on extended drain intervals or older, poorly maintained cars, there's going to be fluid loss due to evaporation and varnishing within the transmission. The big question here is, is half a liter enough to cause performance issues or damage?
Good points... working for someone, I would not want to find out what the consequences might be. If it were my own car, I'd still do the overfill & drain method. You buy 5L anyways... so dump it all in and drain. =)
Hi. I just seen your video. My filet housing won’t come off and I stripped a little piece of the housing using a 1” socket. It was a tight and snug fit but with it being plastic, it would slip around the housing. Have any tips on trying to remove it? Thank you!
THOMAS .Do you mainly work on the V.A.G. family or do you fix what ever comes your way .Very informative video as per .You nephews must be proud of you but the best bit or at least a perk of your videos is no swearing. Which means I can watch your videos in front of my family Daz UK
Mainly VW & Audi, but we work on other stuff as well... mainly general / preventative maintenance (even the VW's & Audi's). Sometimes naughty words do come out of my mouth, but I try to fix that when editing videos. Thank you for watching!
I believe it should come out without removing the glove box. Remove the cover under the glove box (the one you remove to get at the cabin / pollen filter... you should then have access to the blower motor.
...so if there is any debris below the battery casin or the support, it goes inside the filter housing if you are lucky, or inside the system.... i do not like this method sorry.
That wasn't too bad of an oil spill. That's one reason I like your channel. Tips that help everyone.
GigiBelea was the one who told me about the tip... he provided another in the comments below. What a nice guy!

I haven't tried it myself... because of the extra time involved, but I can see that for some, it's the only option.
A real time saver ! Some people will complain no matter what you do !
I know... that's the sad part about trying to help people!
I've been fortunate with comments. I like it when ideas come my way.
Yeah, good comments are so much more helpful... for both parties!
Give and take. UA-cam can be a beautiful thing! Thanks Thomas!
Yeah... it's just sad that people like to bitch more, than provide constructive criticism. =(

This one is a good one.

It's a 24mm fitting on the filter housing.
1 inch is 25.4mm

Will try it next time, should save up 10 minutes easily
GEMC At least!
whenever i do a dsg service, i check the temperature of box. drain fluid first, then open filter to stop the excess oil from pouring out.
Thanks for the tip!
anytime brother.. ive done it like that for ages always worked. keep the sump plug open at the same time so it drains fully
Thanks for the tip!

Hi Thomas, do you by any chance know if I need to remove the glovebox in order to replace the blower motor on a 2011 Tiguan? Thanks!

great job as always.👌👍

***** Thomas I just notice you have shirts.........How do I aqare one of these.
Tony Mullins Link in the description.
Hei Thommy, how much does your shop charge normally for a DSG fluid flush?
I'd have to ask the boss.
handy timesaver
Sure is!

Inside the oil filter housing? Only if you don't clean around the housing before you remove the filter... is that what you mean?
Thomas EXOVCDS hi, yes, if you don't clean well ...
