I'm a horticulturalist, and garden designer from England. I've never really followed plant youtubers before, as I have varied interests outside of plants, and sometimes it feels a little too much like work - but I accidentally came across your page, and I have to say I find it very entertaining and therapeutic to watch. I find what you have to say and your point of view very interesting, and it's always nice to see the different challenges and surprising similarities on your side of the pond.
I like your taste in houseplants. I think I want all of them. I’m just starting over after losing my previous life in an eviction. I was a regular at The Indoor Gardening Society of New York. And going to Philadelphia for the Flower Show was a yearly ritual I just had to have. I realized today how unhappy the news was making me feel. And I thought about what things make me happy. I think those are things I should put my energy into. Houseplant videos make me happy. This video was particularly satisfying. Thank you for showing me these plants. I’m going to put them on my wish list. Stay safe.
I think turtles on a string aka peperomia prostrata, monstera adansonii, and rhaphidophora tetrasperma are all completely deserving of the hype! They are just so beautiful, especially the turtles! I also think philodendron pink princess, calathea white fusion, and stromanthe triostar completely deserve all the love they get! I think the most underrated plants are calathea warscewiczii and peperomia obtusifolia, their leaves are unreal, I look at and touch them and can't believe how perfect they are.
Check out Peperomia "Ginny" if you think that one you mentioned is unreal. I agree though. I have both Peperomias....and all those Calathea types you mentioned too lol.
Joy Kelley I’ve got some and I’m water propagating some cuttings! They are lovely and totally a dream to watch grow! I’ve got the variegated and the normal types. I do find the variegated ones grow at about half the rate of the normal ones but absolutely worth it! I didn’t realise they were such a popular plant, I saw some pics online and fell head over heels lol
I absolutely agree Syngonium is an underrated plant. It can trail, climb, and being bushy. It comes in a variety of patterns and goes from light green to dark form, striped, splash, confetti, etc. and it is easy even in an apartment without much light ;) Thank you Nick Pileggi for your wonderful plant videos
What I like is that your plants are so different. A lot of people have a big collection of the same plants (philodendron, hoya,...). and all those plant look rather the same and that makes it a bit boring to look at. Your collection is everything but boring because of the variety of species.
Was at Walmart 1 day, when the Easter plants were first coming out. I found a rather large Calathea Musica in a ceramic pot for $14.99. I couldn't believe my eyes. The pattern on the leaves in mesmerizing
I love how excited you got about your variegated syngoneum's growth. I'm a new plant mom and am just as pumped when I see that my care is actually making my babes grow instead of killing them! Lots to learn, but it's fun. Thanks for your vid :)
I got a string of hearts plant last year in august and I am absolutely in love - she is my favourite plant baby next to my spiderplant (more love for spiderplants please hahaha). Mine isn't pink, but that's okay because I like the slight purple tint of the undersides of the leaves a lot more. She is growing super fast, and I already propagated a small amount of cuttings. Can't wait to see her thrive and grow over the years :) ♥
I love the Hindu Ropes. They grow so slowly tho... I’m finally starting to see growth after an entire growing season! They are so interesting and beautiful though!
honestly I think the monstera deliciosa is worth the hype, even the leaves without the fenestration! my coworker gave me a cutting and after like 3 weeks of nothing, roots exploded out of it, and I eventually planted it with no issues at all! I've had it for like 2-3 months or so, and it's already grown two new leaves, both lightly fenestrated!! It's one of my favorite plants in the house, and I have a golden pothos that grows so rapidly I've already gotten 3 huge planters full of new plants out of it, and a few more propagating in jars! I just love how sturdy it is, how fast it grows, and right now my fenestrations are only on the two new leaves, and only on the right side of those leaves, so it looks a little wonky which makes me happy(:
Ah, that Hoya - I have the same one. Watch out - I believe it’s the healthiest, most robust Hoya I’ve ever owned. I grew it from a single cutting someone sent me in the mail into a true monster. I have to repot it every 2 or 3 years, the roots just start bursting through the hanging pot, and the plant becomes so heavy it actually breaks the hangers. I don’t give a dang what kind of plants social media says I should like, but the rosary vine is up there at the top with my favorites. The one I have is one of my oldest plants, they really are easy to care for and will tolerate tons of neglect. I have had others over the years that didn’t make it, I think they were overwatered at the places I bought them from, and already on that slippery slope to death when I brought them home. I don’t remember them ever being expensive, though. Guess when they got popular with Instagram, that drove prices up. My tip for plant care: more plants die of overwatering than under watering. Stick you fingers into the soil...if it feels dry an inch down, then water. If you feel any moisture at all, leave it alone, check back in a day or two. The key is to check frequently, so that the plant doesn’t sit dry for a long time, and get to know your plants, so you will be able to tell if they need water just by the look of the plant or the weight of the pot.
Calatheas are way too much drama! So high maintenance ! No Floride. Distilled water. Not too much but likes it moist. Not a lot of sun but needs sun. LoL
I used to think the same about my calathea and am waiting for some new growth to cut off the burnt leaves. Mine has had a love better luck after moving it to my bathroom, out of direct light, and keeping a tray of water below it. It’s helped a lot, just in case you change your mind in the future!! :)
I live in a tropical country maybe that's why I don't have a lot of issues with my calathea and stromanthe but yes they can be dramatic. I'm very busy with school and sometimes they tend to dry out a little bit and they will develop some burns other than that they are very beautiful plants, I want own a lot of them lol
I got a Calathea majestica white star by accident at the beginning of March, I ordered a Stromanthe sanguinea magic star but got the more expensive and prettier white star lmao, and I've watered it 3 times since getting it I think, only when the leaves have started to droop and it's still a-okay. Hasn't grown much for what I've noticed but it's been far from any windows (too many plants send help) so it has gotten the bare minimum of light to survive most likely, but it hasn't gotten any worse for wear in my care. I do mist my plants once a day to keep humidity up to control my thrips invasion (supposedly they breed worse in high humidity) so that may have helped, a lot of my plants have been thriving thanks to the daily misting which I think I'm gonna keep up even after I get rid of the pests. Edit: oh yeh I use tap water to water my plants, I always leave the water to sit in containers at least over night so all chlorine evaporates from the water.
I was staring at the calathea orbifolia beside you. I love the challenge of calathea and mine is full and beautiful like yours! I have many calathea and they keep me busy. Thanks for sharing
Thanks Nick!! Love your plants. I'm in Australia and grew up in a tropical state where everything was pretty much green and I never had indoor plants, then I moved to follow a Horticulture job in another state at Botanic Garden. It does however get snow and I've found myself collecting indoor plants because I miss the green soooo much. Love your channel btw.
I really like rubber plants and peperomia! I am waiting for my tieneke in the mail today. And also I have calethea musaica and the variegated string of hearts coming soon. I can't wait for them to arrive. Thanks for your enthusiasm! I am finding I'm totally about the look of plants rather than their "rarity." I'd rather have a beautiful and full common plant than two leaves of a rare plant, I think. 😄
I am so excited to have found your channel! I have been doing a lot of gardening outdoors, but you have totally inspired me to expand my indoor plant game.
I 100% agree on the variagted plants "sometimes they just look a bit sick". I think they only look good when the variegation looks intentional, like the stripy patterned ine you showed. Rather than patchy or whole leaf variegation just looks like a disease or drying up leaves.
i got a monstera minima in the fall and it’s only grown on me since! it’s so pretty and so easy to propagate with the aerial roots, and it’s not so huge like the others of its kind. so gorgeous and very easy to take care of.
Just got our own Obovata yesterday. My wife calls it her "drunken" purchase, even though she does not drink. Just something she bought randomly at like 2 am in the morning.
Up to a month and a half ago my 2 year old calathea musaica was dying, the leaves were curling in on itself and the stems were drooping, but then I repotted it and my dad came over and cut off the dead leaves, and lo and behold now it's it's growing 14 new leaves and makes me weep with joy every time I look at it. I think I also have this monstera you showed last, but I had no idea that it was of that family, I thought it was a creeper of sorts.
Love Philodendrons, but I really am looking to get that Syngonium Podophyllum "Albo variegatum" I love the variegation the leaves have and I have a lot of Syngonium. I really love the Calathea, one of my wish list plants, the pattern in the leaves is what made me fall in love with it. Thanks so much Nick for this video I really enjoyed it and look forward to your next one. Stay safe and healthy, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
Hi Nick! Those are all really beautiful plants! I don't have any of them, but especially love the Syngonium podophyllum "Albo Variegatum" and Calathea musaica. It's nice to know the Calathea musaica is easier to grow as I've shied away from all the plants in the Maranta family. I love seeing your joy when you talk about plants. I recently purchased an 8" Cebu Blue and Marble Queen Pothos at our Walmart for only $16.97 each. I was thrilled since they were both on my wish list. Thank you so much for sharing!
I inherited a giant Boston fern from an aunt who needed to find a home for it since summer was over and where she lives gets cold 🥶.Dad and grama went to visit her and the family and brought back some of the need a home plants. Including a sedum a vinca come and a variegated spider plant ❤.
Again, excellent video. I just received a notice from Pistils that my Hoya Obavata (sp) and two pots are arriving today. Can’t wait. Keep up the great videos and stay safe and healthy!
Great care tip: Let it dry out ENOUGH but not TOO MUCH :D. Sorry, I just found you and I love how you talk about plants and show them and I'm totally subscribed now! PS: TODAY I received my Monstera sp. Peru (in the Netherlands also called 'pinnatum') in the mail, 3 leaves and they are so cool!
I also got a croton Petra about a month ago, and have somehow only lost two leaves! they're super finicky from what I've learned so I'm not giving a glowing rec just yet lol but I love mine!! and I went ahead and snipped off a bit for propagation, so we'll see how that goes!
Your channel is so relatable. I just watched your video on plants you don't like and I couldn't agree more. I feel the same way about this video. I have all, but two of the plants in this video and im in love with them. The only one that I would add is the amydrium medium green form. I just got a cutting and it is just as beautiful as the pictures.
I think i have a similar plant taste as you! I have a scindapsus treubii moonlight and i absolutely love it. I bought it without even knowing what it is called because I just loved how beautiful the leaves are. I also have a syngonium podophyllum pink.
i almost bought a calathea musaica but i was too scared because calathea and i do not get along haha but now i'm thinking that i should have!!!!! what a stunning plant!!!
Hi Nick,my Name is Jeanette from germany, i have a calathea mosaika, and she is 10 so great as yours 🤗bevor one week she becomes a white flower 🌿🤔and she loves spraying with water, thanks for your videos netti from germany 😎,and ofcourse she loves sun and standing in the sun and Wind and becomes waterspray.
When I recently got a plant I didn't even know what a moss pole was I settled for an old fence post. (Hoya imbricata) Then you talked about an extension maybe you should do a video on this.
It's funny that the Peru was on your list. I just found one at Walmart myself for $16.98 and felt so privileged to get it. It was the only one there and had a tag which was wrong calling it a Raindrop Peperomia but on the sticker on the pot it said Peru with another Costa Farms label stuck in the dirt that said Trending Tropicals rare plants. I knew what it was and it's the first time ever a Walmart plant made me smile. I gave my daughter a small cutting to root and where I clipped it is already growing back. Now looking for the varigated version of course.
philodendron brazil, and pothos marble queen. Gorgeous plants, generous with their growth. Would you ever do a video on standard house plants that are surprising gems? Like Syngoniums, spider plants, easter/christmas cactus?
Ugh. So far I can’t find the first three plants you’ve mentioned anywhere! Apparently they ARE popular 😂... I reallllllyyyy need that albo syngonium!!!😍
Hi ! Scindapsus treubii Moonlight is definitely on the top of my list for about a year. Very hard to get my hand on it here in France, not hyped enough I gess ^^ I'd love to get the Syngonium Podophyllum Albo Variegata too, and it's quite rare here as well. I totally agree with you for the C. Musaica "Network", i love mine, it's so easy and rewarding. I love my variegated chain of hearts. It's pale pink, I'll follow your advice and put it closer to the window to get a more vibrant color. See you soon !
Waiting on a calathea white fusion in the mail currently. Definitely the plant I've fallen the most in love with. My other two calatheas (oranata and lancifolia) have actually given me zero issues since I've gotten them, other than an unfortunate bout of spider mites on my calathea ornata that amazingly didn't spread to any other plants.
I bought a small string of hearts before they were popular and sold it a few years later when it was big and healthy becaue I really never liked it. The flowers are ugly. The tangling/knotting was so annoying. No one likes untangling xmas lights and this was even worse.
bubblegummel I wrapped mine around a trellis that I made and I think it looks so much prettier than just hanging and growing and as it keeps growing I’ll just keep wrapping it around the trellis
Ooof yeah if there are some that would live up to the hype it'd have to be these guys. So colorful and patterned and amazing. That moonlight scindapsis and the string of hearts are gorgeous
where i live in vancouver a lot of home gardeners have these enormous garden sales because houseplants are really popular, and a lot of people will sell huge ones (like 4x as big as yours) for like $30-40, lucky for me cause i love them haha
I'd totally add monstera standleyana (variegata or not it's a beautiful and fun plant) and -philodendron hastatum. My hastatum survived being turned into a stick by cats and then just made the most beautiful comeback. It's a joy at its new baby growth and at it's beautiful mature growth.
I think succulents are totally worth the hype, haha. They're just so beautiful and I absolutely love mine! I have 16 plants in my room and 8 of them are succulents of varying sizes. They're easy to care for and bring me so much joy. I also LOVE my ficus bonsai and "lucky bamboo". They just make my room feel good. I could go on listing pretty much all my plants in my room (like my money trees and snake plants) but then it would just turn into a list of every plant I have. Lol
I like you. You're funny. My tastes, too, have moved towards caudices and cycads and pachypodiums. I got a pachypodium rutenbergianum this weekend and I'm on the hunt for a stephania erecta. I want to see how one full cycle goes with my rutenbergianum before I get more. I feel like moving towards stumpy, less leafy plants is like graduating to "advanced" houseplant hobbiest. That rhaphidora tetrasperma behind you seems to be everywhere on social media. I picked up a cutting cheap at my nursery and it's already growing a new leaf. Very rewarding and quite playful to look at! Also the macodes petola. It's a showstopper - also a fast, easy grower. I've impressed all of colleagues during our Zoom happy hours :)
I want a silver sword and a Peru. But I have recently fallen in love with Rhipsalis. Just purchased 4. Definitely looking to expand my collection of rhipsalis and Orchid cactus.
I am without a doubt first and foremost a Philodendron/arrowhead kinda gal. But also love my Calethea, my hoya linear, my air plants, my Pilea's, my ferns, and my the string of hearts. I guess I am all over the place...what can I say I love plants.
I too turn pink when left out in the sun. A very relatable plant.
This ladies and gentlemen, is the highest form of plant humour. Thank you for your service.
Awh!

Awe💓
I’d love a ‘not worth the hype version’ lol
Check out Legends of Monsteras channel to see Kunzo, a legendary Japanese plant Master!
he did one that is called popular plants that he dislikes :)

I hope everything is going well for you and you can surround yourself with plants :)
If you're not excited about your plants, then they are NOT your favorites. 👏🏿👏🏿👏🏿 periodt --thanks for putting up another honest and informative list.
I think turtles on a string aka peperomia prostrata, monstera adansonii, and rhaphidophora tetrasperma are all completely deserving of the hype! They are just so beautiful, especially the turtles! I second the turtles.
Check out Peperomia "Ginny" if you think that one you mentioned is unreal. I agree though. I have both Peperomias....and all those Calathea types you mentioned too lol.
I just bought a pot of turtles, waiting to get it in the mail. So excited.
I love calthea jungle velvet, despite how dramatic they can be, they still grow. Well for me.
I’m growing vanilla as a house plant, it’s been doing well
I really want to grow a vanilla
Duuude what a good idea
That's just an orchid, right?
“You need to basically fry this plant to get it that pink color” 😂
Love the pink heart plant . So far the only one that intrigues me !! I admit l am not easy to please . I lean towards the LG exotic ones !!!
Joy Kelley I’ve got some and I’m water propagating some cuttings! They are lovely and totally a dream to watch grow! I’ve got the variegated and the normal types. I do find the variegated ones grow at about half the rate of the normal ones but absolutely worth it!

No wonder there's a cast iron skillet hanging beside that planting in his window
You want to see rare and stunningly different ones, watch Kunzo, Japan's plant Master vids on Monstera

I got my string of hearts 3 weeks ago and wow do they grow fast !! She is one of my favorite plants already. 💞💞
Plz tell me some tips! I just bought one from etsy!
Monstera Peru is one of my favorites, purchased it in the fall and it's still a favorite!
Mine as well - moveing mine around several times a day so it gets the best light it can get
Same here!
I love how excited you got about your variegated syngoneum's growth. I'm a new plant mom and am just as pumped when I see that my care is actually making my babes grow instead of killing them! Lots to learn, but it's fun. Thanks for your vid :)

Uhh that string of hearts is just stunning! I’m happy to hear the price is decreasing 🥰
I have learned about sooooo many new plants thanks to you!!! That Moonlight is to die for. And the SOH is in such high demand it's CRAZY!
I was staring at the calathea orbifolia beside you. I love the challenge of calathea and mine is full and beautiful like yours! I have many calathea and they keep me busy. Thanks for sharing

My goodness! I have none of those plants and I want all those plants. Yes honey two snaps
🤣🤣👍🏻
Started my morning with you and am happy I did! I love the variety you have and am stoked to hear your knowledge. Thank you!!!
I find your obvious knowledge and passion about your plants extremely extra endearing.
I love your passion for plants! Sweet video
i got a monstera minima in the fall and it’s only grown on me since! it’s so pretty and so easy to propagate with the aerial roots, and it’s not so huge like the others of its kind. so gorgeous and very easy to take care of.
keons I JUST got a minima and I was wondering if you’d share a little of your experience with it so I know what to expect and how to help it?
Hi Nick. Can you make a video and talk about the best soil mixes for different kinds of plants?
So happy to find your channel! I love how quick and clear you explain things!
Just got our own Obovata yesterday. My wife calls it her "drunken" purchase, even though she does not drink. Just something she bought randomly at like 2 am in the morning.
So helpful, thanks! Also, you low-key look like Ewan McGreggor
“I got GOT by this plant...” I watched this like 4 times. So relatable.
I love variegated and pink plants myself. It's so awesome there is a plant to please every preference!
Well thanks for adding some light to a rather dull week...take care and wash your hands a lot because the world would be dull without you🥰😜🤗
Up to a month and a half ago my 2 year old calathea musaica was dying, the leaves were curling in on itself and the stems were drooping, but then I repotted it and my dad came over and cut off the dead leaves, and lo and behold now it's it's growing 14 new leaves and makes me weep with joy every time I look at it.

I LOVE my Calatheas! I have 4 and am gonna keep growing my collection. Musaica is my favorite. 🥰
Peace lilies!! So hyped but honestly worth it!! I love mine!
Those are such gorgeous plants! Thanks so much for sharing them and also bringing a smile to my face. I really needed it 😃
Love Philodendrons, but I really am looking to get that Syngonium Podophyllum "Albo variegatum" I love the variegation the leaves have and I have a lot of Syngonium. I really love the Calathea, one of my wish list plants, the pattern in the leaves is what made me fall in love with it. Thanks so much Nick for this video I really enjoyed it and look forward to your next one. Stay safe and healthy, sending love and hugs, bye for now.
Not really the scindapsus type usually but the moonlight definitely found a way to my heart what a beautiful velvety glowing blue-grey plant 💙🤍
So glad to chat about my favourite topic, Nick. You're doing such a good job. I need this to help me do my caring job. Thank you xxx
Hi Nick! Those are all really beautiful plants! I don't have any of them, but especially love the Syngonium podophyllum "Albo Variegatum" and Calathea musaica. I love of your plants!!! Thank you for the info!!
Hi Nick-- thank you so much for posting right now. You're content really brightens my day!
I love my fiddle leaf fig! I found it at a box store for $20 a few months back & I’m absolutely in love. 😍
Again, excellent video. I just received a notice from Pistils that my Hoya Obavata (sp) and two pots are arriving today. Can’t wait. Keep up the great videos and stay safe and healthy!
Jean Gaissert my obovata from pistils shipped yesterday 💚
Great care tip: Let it dry out ENOUGH but not TOO MUCH :D.
Sorry, I just found you and I love how you talk about plants and show them and I'm totally subscribed now!
PS: TODAY I received my Monstera sp. Peru (in the Netherlands also called 'pinnatum') in the mail, 3 leaves and they are so cool!
Thanks for your video! Very enjoyable. You are so personable and knowledgeable.
I love the concept of this video. LETS TALK ABOUT THE THINGS WE LOOOOVE 💕💕💕💕 thanks for that ♥️
I also got a croton Petra about a month ago, and have somehow only lost two leaves! they're super finicky from what I've learned so I'm not giving a glowing rec just yet lol but I love mine!! and I went ahead and snipped off a bit for propagation, so we'll see how that goes!
I would absolutely LOVE to have a Gloriosum in my collection :)
Just got my string of hearts a couple of weeks ago and its grown loads already
I love it
It's such a pretty plant
It's definitely on my wish list! But it's so expensive where I live :(
Why is it people dont seem to like syngoniums? I think they are pretty. It was nice to see you excited about one.
I love my Monstera Siltepecana it’s growing So fast and I’ve only had it a month , many great variations tfs ✌️🌱
Nick, what’s that neon green climber behind your right shoulder? Gorgeous!
Raphidaphora tetrasperma , looks almost like monstera adansonii, but not exactly. Definitely love the way his is climbing up the trellis!
Very beautiful collection and choice you have. I wish they are available in nurseries here. Thanks for sharing these wonderful plants with us
When I recently got a plant I didn't even know what a moss pole was I settled for an old fence post.
Great video Nick! When this virus is over I am going to get a string of hearts they are so beautiful.
I literally just bought (5 minutes) a variegated SOH online, hopefully it will arrive in good shape!
Love the ceropegia woodii variegata , thank you for the video)🤩
That second last one is a total stunner
philodendron brazil, and pothos marble queen. Gorgeous plants, generous with their growth. Would you ever do a video on standard house plants that are surprising gems? Like Syngoniums, spider plants, easter/christmas cactus?
Your video's are making my day 😊 I always learn so much from you. Thank you
Ugh. So far I can’t find the first three plants you’ve mentioned anywhere! Apparently they ARE popular 😂... I reallllllyyyy need that albo syngonium!!!😍
Your liking of plants is what my choice but don't have what you collect beautiful plants keep collecting💯💯💞😍
I’m obsessed with the Fabian aralia. I’ve got one and I come say hi to her at least a couple times a day 💕💕
I like when you say in nature the plants are not perfect
Thank you for this video. I am new to houseplants and this info is hugely helpful to me as I navigate the hype.
where i live in vancouver a lot of home gardeners have these enormous garden sales because houseplants are really popular, and a lot of people will sell huge ones (like 4x as big as yours) for like $30-40, lucky for me cause i love them haha
I've always loved aroids . They're so beautiful !
Nick you were so right about the s. treubii moonlight. Can't find that anywhere now. Sadness.
I think I have a moonlight, she was so sad and dead on direct sunlight and now that I put her on shade she's the happiest
Thank you for the suggestions and care tips🌿
Don't ever leave that treubii unattended or this girl might just snatch it! It's gorgeous. Wowsa.
I'd totally add monstera standleyana (variegata or not it's a beautiful and fun plant) and -philodendron hastatum. My hastatum survived being turned into a stick by cats and then just made the most beautiful comeback. It's a joy at its new baby growth and at it's beautiful mature growth.
Could you do a segment on Norfolk Island pines, Araucaria excelsa? They're so beautiful.
Beautiful plants! I have the scindapsus Moonlight! I’m hoping it grows like yours!!! GORGEOUS!! ❤️😍🌱
Raphidaphora Tetrasperma!! I love that pant!🌱
I like the pop of the pink red and purple colors aswell but my all time Fav are the "blue" teal silver like the Cebu blue, silver sword and moonlight
I'm so happy I've found your channel. Really enjoying your content
I am without a doubt first and foremost a Philodendron/arrowhead kinda gal.
But also love my Calethea, my hoya linear, my air plants, my Pilea's, my ferns, and my the string of hearts. I guess I am all over the place...what can I say I love plants.
You do have different taste in plants, but thats cool cuz I enjoy learning about plants that are new to me. 👍
