extra special thanks to the Editor MrDemoVE for this episode, as the second half of my personal audio recording was completely missing and he had to manage cutting my audio from the stream VOD instead. absolute legend
Oof, the phasing a worthy sacrifice for content!
I NEED a compilation of Buck struggling to talk to people after this campaign is done.
Laira is supposed to be the socially anxious one thats weak in conversations, but progression skyrockets most of the time whenever she talks to help him
I mean this whole-heartedly: Buck's conversation on religion hit so close to home, I kinda started crying. This was so real, and such excellent RP. Good job, guys
JoCat is so good at creating space for character moments. I’m literally taking notes for the next time I DM a campaign.
It just occurred to me, but imagine being a Divination wizard with the All-or-Nothing Coin, and just using the coin for you Portents every morning.
1:54:40 - "I'm very sorry, but if you'll pardon me, I think I left my excuse to leave outside."
Yes, I have a divination wizard who would love that coin.
I never thought of that. You’d get what you want no matter what
@@JLocke0113 There is an SCP that is a glove that does some cool ass shit. Look that up on The Exploring Series.
La Destructora appearing is like a Yakuza side mission I swear to god.
KIRYU CHAN!
The best kind of character
Majima everywhere!
Or Bazelgeuse.
I'm making a prediction now. La Destructora is the last dragon they'll have to fight. This is comedic build-up coming through.
I get wrestling heel vibes and I'm HERE for it. Bah God, is that La Destructora's music?!
How was La Destuctora’s fight more awkward than Buck meeting his ex?!
Wrong eps., wrong persuasion... bro..
I wonder if the War Forged with cowboy attire that is a gunslinger that praises the builder is a reference to Enoch. I'm kidding, I love the reference to other campaigns, its very nostalgic
I mean… I assume Enoch was the guy that taught the cleric how to use a gun…
idk why but fritz dropping the f bomb with all the anger in her heart goes harder than anything i've seen in a movie
When people don't cuss in videos (cause YT BS or corpo fkry) they lose my interest fast, samey cookie cutter content. When they do cuss it really makes me want to watch more. The best kind is when you least expect it and they drop a bomb or two in a spur of the moment character RP.
1:32:18 Oh, I like the armor skill idea! One D&D (the next version of the game) will probably implement a version of weapon skills (called weapon mastery), but the current playtests haven't introduced anything similar to armor skills.
2:02:27 "I'm asking you to apologize to the child. I'm not that person anymore, I understand what you did. A child doesn't" Such an impactful and memorable moment. In psychology there's the concept of "inner child", so while grown-ups might not be the same person they were as a child, their "child self" is still a part of their subconscious (which still influences them). There's even a kind of psychotherapy called reparenting, where a therapist assumes the role of a surrogate parental figure for the client, in order to treat psychological disturbances caused by bad parenting. By acknowledging and apologizing for what they did, Astrapio reparented Fritz in more ways than one (not only by providing catharsis/relief for a childhood trauma, but by effectively having a parent-child relationship for the first time).
Enoch mention in this session is so cool
Wurd casually asking the monster for a death note was the highlight of this episode for me
Plot twist: JoCat made the whole Elynthi adventure to give a backstory for the Stick of Stickiness
Remind me, didn't the stick get put in another dimension back in Necrohunt? Is there multiple and is No Tail making them?
@@Mightymajin Yes it was, if it's truly a branch from the Life Tree that explains why it's so powerful and how No-Tail can get more
Except in the post from Necrohunt, Joe said it came from that dead world

2:08:33 Laira and Fritz talk
It’s helpful if you forget at what time you were
I have a beautiful image in my head of Buck, Laira and Wurd looking Buck's hammer, while it's sitting on his shoulder because he never mentioned putting it down before.
i bet La Destructora is actually someone powerfull, or work work for someone powerfull, she maybe even be the last Dragon they will meet, just testing them to see if they are good
she manage to not only track them down through long distances, but to get in the city their going to first
My guess is that she is on the payroll for one of the dragons and is meant as a sort of theatrical antagonist.
Like, the Pilgrimage is usually not as dangerous as it is now (notice how she got worried when the Pilgrims showed they had been in a struggle?) and as such is just there to be theater.
She took a decent hit from Buck after the enchantment thing went down and didn't even flinch. She's got to be powerful
My guess is that she's the successor to Sacia's dragon. She has an obvious line to what her heart will refer to (Coco) and she might end up putting a show and 'stealing' the hearts near the tree, playing pretend that she's ascending to an evil dragon form and being 'purified' instead.
But her identity? She has the same accent as the Lord of Sacia, but then how is the Lord getting her work done? Might be through a Simulacrum spell. Or a twin sister. Another option is Persimmons, the Warforged. She asked Buck to bring her something shiny, which might end up being her heart if she feels strongly about it. But then the question is where she hid the dog for so long. Last option is what the dragon of Sacia suggested: that it is his niece putting up a performance. She did say she'd find a different way to help...
@@RaichuWizDomI though it was his niece at first but isn’t his niece a centaur? I thought that La Destroctor having a horse or even goat half (If I’m misremembering her being a saytr) sticking out wouldn’t it be pretty obvious?
@@brickphone8069 His niece is, like himself, a satyr, so bottom half would be goat-like. Bipedal, two legs, but goat-like, still, yes. Kind of a shame centaurs fell out of fashion, come to think of it: Chiron needs more love. But that as an aside.
For an ungulate lower body, you can cover the hooves up with the cardboard full plate armour, but any leg motion would give it away. The second you're not standing still, folks would notice the feet don't move the way they're supposed to, at least. But a counter-point to that, and speaking as a hobbyist writer: we've already established Sacia's dragon really likes using illusion magic. And his niece was a fighter first, or a spellblade. When she stuck her sword in the ground, she explicitly said something along the lines of doing things 'in a different way,' which could be interpreted as moving away from pure physical and more towards arcane means of fighting.
That might be how she's tracking them, too: didn't Wurd take the sword she left? Or did he leave it?
Anyway, tl;dr: if it is the niece, there's a foreshadowed reason she might know illusion magic, which would account for it. But there are still plenty of other options to keep it interesting. We don't know what happened to the previous Lord of Sacia, either. Heck, it could be the dragon himself in disguise, testing the pilgrims further like he has already done. We know he keeps a lot of creatures, he has a reason to go around telling the others he's retiring, and he has illusion magic still to pull the bait and switch so he can appear on screen with her at the same time.

PoiBoi (Fritz): Stop making them hot-
Jocat: but this is a Fire Genasi, They have to be :3
another nice session from Jo :3, n so the wait begins once again for the next episode ^^
1:14:43 this is probably the closest our two favorite cowboys will ever get to interacting with each other (if the priest is talking about Enoch that is) and I am super happy with that.
I just like the fact that D&D has a universal idea of The Machine God. Praise the Omnissiah and let the Motive Energy guide you though this life! Ave.
I think he is talking about Enoch, comparing the year of this campaign and Necrohunt, it would be very possible for him to still be alive. Plus, a priest who would teach someone to be a good shot... In a JoCat series... I can't imagine anyone else lol
41:18 This feels like a repeat of "Is most of this party fucking illiterate??" lol
Love how you’re fleshing out this world and making it your own Jo. Can’t wait to see where you go with this.
1:21:09 Can I just say how much I appreciate pausing and reading all of these item descriptions? Beautiful! 😄
My favorite is the mood shirt, Heart of the Sleeveless.
"... like a mood ring, but a shit."
Best typo. Timestamp 1:26:45.
Am I the only one thinking that Noriam is pretty similar to Grilby from Undertale. A fire person, running/working in an inn/bar, wearing a nice vest, and being seemingly mute.
I’m hyped to see a mecha dragon in the furtuee
Mecha Shiva!
Demon: Say my name
“You’re Heisenberg.”
I was so hoping he would say that lol
Maybe that's why JoCat asked him to be named after a flower, so that he can't be named Heisenberg and thus no one can take any scene with him in it seriously
They have a chain restaurant called “CanonBurger” Im sure he would of allowed Heisenberg
Judging by the fact Fritz doesn't remember their mother at all I assume that they were given away as a baby, and all things considered I really don't see what their father did wrong, he was sure Fritz's life would not be great if Fritz grew up with him, he had a friend that he fully trusted and was willing to take care of Fritz and it's not like Fritz would take any emotional damage from this parting because Fritz wouldn't remember a thing. Fritz's father figure made for a good father and took good care of Fritz, he wasn't cruel or anything, and while he wasn't their biological father I don't see why that should be significant at all. In the end his decision to give them away did indeed lead to them having a good life and I don't know why he should be sorry for that or why he should apologise to their child self. I don't get why it's supposed to be a cowardly action
It is an interest moral question/situation, I think that what he did wasn’t wrong, but neither is Fritz’s anger towards him
A gambler worshipping lady luck is absolutely hilarious
Jo just so you know underground fish is the coolest piece of world building I've ever heard and will promptly be stealing it for future use.
Castle in the Sky, go look up this movie.
Well I've got a fantastic idea for you, my friend. Flying fish!
What? What do you mean those actually exist? Fish can't fly.
I think La Destructora is the Lord of Sacia, but who knows she could be the humanoid blot for all we know
My theory is that as well. Seems a perfect fit.
Well the Lord of Sacia is a dwarf or gnome or something, I don't completely remember but I do remember her being shorter than average height. So unless she's wearing stilts in that costume, unlikely.
Honestly, I thought it before they said it, when it concerns Fritz; Buck has awkward Dad energy and Wurd has chaotic Uncle energy, it's hilarious
51:27 - The quiet little "Yippeeee!" ♥♥♥ "So much serotonin from such a small sound" BIG AGREE omg ♥
Not since Task of Alavast have i seen a kobold so wonderfully played
Yah unexpectables
@@kylienielsen6975 The Blue Blur and the Tale of The Ancient Fan.
The giant tree’s distant silhouette in the desert towns art is a really nice touch.
If Fritz desires, this would be a really cool reason to multiclass...
I can see everyone but Laira multiclassing after this session. Fritz to wizard or bard, Wurd to warlock, and Buck to cleric…
Love this series
Oh boy! Always a good day when a new Heart of Elynthi drops! Let's gooooooooo!
I JUST finished binging this last friday!! Thank god I didn’t wait too long!!
Hey… I’m back… asking again for Jo and TavernCat to publicly release the campaign OSTs… they’re really good… I wanna be able to listen to some of the mellower tracks… maybe use them in my campaigns… release them please.
Buck is the dad that I think a lot of us need
I'm surprised none of the players are familiar with the name "Sergei", I didn't think it was an uncommon name.
Especially given that they're all gamers, artists, and general nerds... Like, if there are any male Russian characters in a bit of media, chances of them being named Ivan, Vladimir, or Sergei is pretty high.
Its always great when good ole no tail is around.
Speculation and spoilers below.
Couple of new developments in this one, but not as much that fits the bigger picture compared to before. We get a subtle bit of storytelling that might come back later: the fire genasi suffered a wound that didn't get healed because of the blot. In a world with healing magic, blot injuries can stick for life. Subtle way to convey that, very nice. Buck had a similar short-term issue with that. We know Torrellan got picked up in relation to a potion seller, and we know from episode 2 that the city of Trevasetta has been imposing new laws regarding 'unsanctioned healing magic'. That's as far as the tin-foil hat stuff goes for this part.
On a smaller scale, my guess is by the time we get to that city, there'll be someone begging Laira to heal them, and the crew will have to make a decision of whether to break the law. Another guess is: Trevasetta has a cure for blot-related injuries, and they wish to monetise it to the fullest. That joke about free healthcare a few episodes ago? That's gonna get a stinger.
The overall recurring thing seems to be that independent business are being targeted for absorption. We had the bridge troll (assuming that was targetted), we had the concerns with Buck's ex-wife, and the outright blackmail/scam in the previous stop, now we get the alchemist, but this one feels like a red herring, possibly someone else working on a cure under the counter, so Trevasetta doesn't find out. If the blot is under Trevasetta's control, it becomes a question of how much they control it. Is the blot of one mind, or are there factions? The big humanoid one can seemingly issue commands, that's concerning on several levels.
I kinda feel for everyone involved in that awkward scene with La Distructora, honestly. If the first hit bounces off a magic shield, why would you assume the second hit won't? That's an honest mistake, you can talk it out from there. There is also the notion that if La Distructora is following them, and if the blot is more intelligent than it appears to be... sooner or later it's going to start taking hostages. It's not unreasonable to think that hostage will be Coco if there isn't some minimal level of caution being applied.
With regards to the religion talk: I do wish more creators actually looked into what goes on in belief in magical systems, nobody ever gets it quite right compared to the literature. Chaotism's a nice and basic one to study; doesn't have the trappings of New Age but follows the same overall principles while keeping the logic nice and practical. The concept of True Will, at the very least, seemed like a very applicable thing to bring up from at least one character in that whole exchange. But such things are not mainstream, and it was a good discussion regardless, so thumbs up for that one. Also thumbs up for using the term 'sigil' for what it actually is, mixing them up with runes or glyphs is a noobie mistake. Nobody ever mistakes them for hypersigils, though, it's weird...
I recently started reading Alloy of Law and Buck's voice is all I hear for the main character. No complaints lol
Fritz is unhinged and if I were her dad I would be fucking terrified during that whole confusing exchange. Especially given how powerful she must be from his perspective.
Any series with a robot cowboy priest is a good series in my books
You have no idea how quickly I clicked this.
41:36 - as someone who doesn't sleep in a bed for similar reasons, I fucking love this whole situation. I especially love Laira's thing where she makes a mattress from the blankets because that's what i do, for the exact same reasons
Joe sure knows how to turn a boring day into great day
Edit: first comment!
I understand why Fritz would be cold towards her biological father (he abandoned her after all), but I don't get why she would be that furious against him: It must have been heart-crushing for him to give away his daughter, and not to anyone but a trustworthy friend so she would have a great and happy life on top of that. And even now, despite his great responsibilities, he still gave her all the time and listening she needed, took every insults and petiness she threw at him, and even accepted a drink. Fritz called him a coward, but to me he seems like one of the most selfless and kind individuals we've seen so far in the story.
Let me put it this way...
I resent my parents for moving every few years chasing job opportunities, especially as I had to lose and make friends again and again and again. Each time we moved it was like a piece of myself kept getting left behind to the point that I hated it.
But I understand WHY they did it. I agree that it was probably the best thing at the time to do, but I'm still furious about it. I didn't get a stable childhood, I felt emotionally abandoned and controlled... And it wasn't due to circumstance, it was because of a choice. A selfish choice that provided SOME mutual benefit (I experienced other cultures, learned as an autistic kid how to socialize, and have a lot of cool memories.)
So, Fritz acknowledges that what Astrapio did was probably the best thing for everyone involved... but it doesn't mean the hurt of being abandoned goes away or that his decision was really so selfless.
It's more that Fritz is upset with Astrapio for being technically right, but not honest.
Ive been looking forward to this
10:14 Thank you Red, I'm glad I'm not the only one.

It really annoys me that they haven't noticed that La Destructora only finds them in places they are easy to find at: outside the first dragon's temple, at the tavern they advertised to the entire city at a wrestling match and at the next town with a dragon. Anyone interested would have been able to find them
