Bits matter WAY more than sample rate (44.1, 48, 88.2, 96, 192...) So, my advice for the average Joe who wants to Skype and Podcast/Game stream, save your money and get the Yeti standard. If you are an audio professional or musician, get the Pro. Since it has XLR, it's like having another mic in your studio arsenal, as well as a mobile grab-and-go mic for mobile recording with USB. Blue knocked this one out of the park. (My only wish is that Blue would come out with a large diaphragm version)
Proximity effect is not based on transducer type; it is based on the Polar Pickup Pattern. If you use a Cardioid setting, then you *will* have a proximity effect, as is the nature of uni-directional recording. This can be "fixed" (masked) with internal electronics (or an external EQ).
The XLR Connectors are for use with a pro or semi pro mixing consoles which allows it to be used as an analogue input element in a multi-track microphone set-up. I use the Yeti Pro as a stereo microphone when recording choirs. So the original Yeti will create a slightly better tone than a CD because of the 48Khz sampling rate (in theory). The Yeti Pro has a sample rate of 192Khz (compared to 48 the original has) This technically means that all the filtering happens WAY above our hearing range. What do I mean by filtering? A CD has a sample rate of 44.1Khz. This means that the highest frequency that can be produced is about 20,000 Hz, which is the limit of human hearing... if you're lucky. The problem is that there has to be filtering to round out the wave form, or else the music will sound extremely distorted at the high end. This filtering has to be done properly. Cheap CD players might not do as well as some more expensive ones. Because the original Yeti has a slightly higher sampling rate (48Khz), this moves the filtering higher above human hearing, so there's less chance of distortion. If Blue put good filters inside the mic, (I'm sure they did) there should be no problem at all. I don't even think the mic will go up to 20,000 anyway, so we're in the clear. When you're talking 192Khz sampling rate, (as with the Yeti Pro), IF there is any filtering being done, it would be WAY above human hearing, and that would only be to prevent the dogs from going crazy, if you know what I mean. Also, The Yeti Pro uses a bit depth of 24 bits, instead of 16. That means that the Yeti Pro can reproduce over 16,000,000 discrete levels of sound as apposed to the original Yeti's over 65,000. Of course all this assumes that you are using the USB output. The Yeti Pro also has analog outputs so all these numbers would depend on how your recording software is set up. None of the sampling and filtering would be done inside the mic if you were using the analog outputs. Now that your head is spinning, I'll answer your question. Right off the top, you're probably not going to hear ANY difference between the two mics. The Pro has the same pickups as the original Yeti. The advantage that the Pro has is that it does have the analog outputs so you can use it with a mixer. If you ever plan on using a mixer, the Pro is a must. There is not a way to plug a USB mic into a mixer, at least not yet. Technically, it can be done, but no one has invented such a device. As far as the bit depth and sampling rates, I challenge anyone to do a blindfolded test and hear the difference. The advantage of the higher numbers comes into play for... RECORDING. Here's why. When we record, we tend to bounce tracks, put them through processing, mix them down etc. All this takes a toll on the data being recorded. Someone might say, Craig you idiot, it's digital, there's no signal loss". That is true to a degree, but if I, say, recorded a 16 bit recording really low, then later on boost up the level, I have just in effect reduced the effective bit depth. (Bit depth can be compared to "headroom" in the tape world) If I want to boost a frequency like say 5000 Hz, I am in effect stretching that 16 bit headroom. When this is done a few times during a recording and mixing session, there might be audible noise or dithering. That's why recording engineers like to use 24 bit because instead of 65,000, you have 16 million. That is a much higher resolution that is much harder to damage during processing and so on. But we're talking on a Pro level here. I've recorded songs in 16 bit before and they sound perfectly fine. MUCH better than my old tape recorders. So if you're looking to record multiple tracks and doing processing, bouncing, blending, comping etc, go with the Pro, and you can use a mixer. If you just need a mic to plug into your computer for voice overs, skype, broadcasting, or to sing along with stuff, the original one is fine. If you want to see an interesting comparison between the Yeti and the MXL 990, look up "blue yeti vs mxl 990" and watch the first video that comes up. Hope that helps.
If I understand the question right I would say that the Yeti and Yeti Pro has a few different features. The Yeti (non pro) doesn't have the xlr plug for one... Also there IS a shock mount made for these mics and they run around $50.
Actually, Blue Snowballs are very good mics for what they cost, and mine's held up extremely well for about a year. It still looks and sounds exactly like it did when I got it.
Also, would I be able to record say a commentary with this on the cardioid setting and it not picking up someone walking into the same room and saying something?
Im not ThatSnazzyiPhoneGuy. but, a pop filter is basically just a metal mesh that helps keep down the "boom" in the mic when you pronounce "b,d,t...". you can buy one for about 15 dollars or you can make one if you have some old steel mesh laying around. All it basically does is break up the wind from your mouth that comes out when you talk. hope this helps.
@defender880 I reviewed the Turbine Gold a few years ago. They're alright headphones, but quite overpriced. You can find cheaper (and better) alternatives. Check out the Etymotic HF5 instead.

If you want to record studio quality then no, it really depends on what kind of music you will be recording though. The Yeti's are too sensitive for a loud amp, and the gain settings wouldn't come threw very nicely. Amp microphones are geared pretty damn different from normal voice mic's so i wouldn't substitute them for each others jobs. However, you would be able to record acoustic guitar very nicely with this mic.
I don't wanna be rude or anything the "boom" that comes from the letters "b,d,t,p" is called a plosive or the letters are plosives I'm not sure but you learn something every day
I suggest the regular yeti, it is $93 on amazon and has the same audio quality in the way it sounds but it doesn't record at a super high resolution which can only be heard in a studio set up
do u hav a double bass pedal for drumming? and do u use a porthole for the bass drum? anyhow, i was really suprised how crisp the sound was with just one condenser mic. might think about picking this up. in my band, my drummers dad has a recording studio, but we rehearse in my basement, so i think it might be nice to just record some demos with this mic.
@Shadow47805 A pop filter is the material screen that you see people have in front of their microphones which they speak through. It prevents the pop sounds that you would hear from pronouncing words that cause a high rush of air at the microphone... such as saying the word Problem... the P causes a high pop if you're too close.
I noticed that these high quality mics tend to pick up a slight echo that bounces off of the walls. If someone wanted to avoid this they would have to install sound proof foam in key locations of the room to cut down & ambiance.

my friend uses the samson c03u, and i will be buying it aswell soon, it is a really good mic, it is plug and play the cable you get with it is a usb one.
sounds good but do you know if there is any mic that is better? with a usb cable you mentioned that it was faulting sometimes on your mac and i dont want that and it needs to be a usb mic as i dont want to spend to much on getting a mixer table and all that : / please give some tips

Will this be good for the violin? Now I know that condensers aren't the best thing for bowed instruments and ribbons are recommended, but of course I'm not looking at making the best high end recordings through it, but 1) for decent quality reference of practice sessions and 2) for streaming through Skype as my new teacher is going to be on a different continent. My main is concern is that it's lack at the bass end might lead to the violin overloading the microphone too easily and losing a lot of its undertone resonance. And if not this, what solutions would you recommend, considering that this might be as much as I might be able to spend. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Guys, if you're looking for a SUPER High-quality mic, get the MXL .009 it's a condenser microphone so it does record your instruments... Go check it out, it;s a high quality mic and a bit pricey but overall it's one of the best out there

You get alot of sound from the back with Cardiod on Blue Yeti's from keyboard and mouse even if you lower the gain to 10 windows 10 on mic. Don't know if something is wrong with mine since it captures much behind on cardioid but its like dull but it stills alot sound imo.
if i run it via usb can i use my 2 channel audio interface with 2 dinamic mics to multi track record the 3 mics on different channels in cubase for lets say drums? i cant afford a new 6 or so channel audio interface plus kit mics and i need another condenser cause my curent sucks for vocals.
I just bought one yesterday and brought it home, hooked it up, seems amazing, but and when I record myself singing into Garageband the input that I'm hearing through the headphones sounds great, but when I play the track back, I can barely hear it through the headphones no matter how hi I've turned up the gain. And of course then I get every background noise. Am new to this, and don't know what I'm doing wrong. Also the sampling rate keeps kicking down to the lowest no matter what I select.
I was thinking, since I have an H2N, (not so impressed with the quality, probably because of my earphones or speakers) would a hypercardioid dynamic videoke mic make the quality better for studio?

XLR is meant to go into a preamp to power the mic and/or mixer/compressor etc. No USB mice can come close to the quality of a XLR setup at this point in time.
Ronnie Massari XLR is for direct analog signals without latency. USB is a packet oriented protocol and can have, because of its nature, latency. Because of USB the signal must also be sampled and coded on the mic side, which results in having the quality depended on quality and price of the the analog digital converterer (ADC) in the mic. With XLR you can transport the signal into professional equipment. What you get after that, the sample rate etc. depends on your professional equipment and not on the elecontrics in the mic.
I have the yeti pro... And honestly I believe that the yeti pro would work a Lil better... Do to it be both xlr and USB connected... The USB is of course mostly for when your on-the-go, or if you don't have all of the xlr components I still feel that the pro does slightly beat the original blue yeti
Yup, that wasn't there. Also while quite nice microphone it is somewhat flat sounding. I am not into music or anything but it sounds a bit dull, bass and all is nice but no highs, or is it just me?
Some genius should make a mic that records each capsule to a different track, like stereo but three not two, or even a 6 channel mic that records stereo for each channel...

@TheBrownChiLD 48khz/16 is dvd quality. and 44.1khz/16 is cd quality which is good enough. 192khz/24 bit is a little over board and is kind of over kill.

i find the reason studio mics lack a low is due to using more compression which is what is used alot more of now days, but this sounds good!

Where did you get the idea the bass response of a condenser mic isn't as good as a dynamic?? If anything, it's far superior.

If you want to record studio quality then no, it really depends on what kind of music you will be recording though.
The Yeti's are too sensitive for a loud amp, and the gain settings wouldn't come threw very nicely. Amp microphones are geared pretty damn different from normal voice mic's so i wouldn't substitute them for each others jobs. However, you would be able to record acoustic guitar very nicely with this mic.

I don't wanna be rude or anything the "boom" that comes from the letters "b,d,t,p" is called a plosive or the letters are plosives I'm not sure but you learn something every day
I suggest the regular yeti, it is $93 on amazon and has the same audio quality in the way it sounds but it doesn't record at a super high resolution which can only be heard in a studio set up

do u hav a double bass pedal for drumming? and do u use a porthole for the bass drum? anyhow, i was really suprised how crisp the sound was with just one condenser mic. might think about picking this up. in my band, my drummers dad has a recording studio, but we rehearse in my basement, so i think it might be nice to just record some demos with this mic.
@Shadow47805 A pop filter is the material screen that you see people have in front of their microphones which they speak through. It prevents the pop sounds that you would hear from pronouncing words that cause a high rush of air at the microphone... such as saying the word Problem... the P causes a high pop if you're too close.
I noticed that these high quality mics tend to pick up a slight echo that bounces off of the walls. If someone wanted to avoid this they would have to install sound proof foam in key locations of the room to cut down & ambiance.

I just put my yeti with the stand on a book and that has helped a little bit with the sounds it picks up from the stand.

my friend uses the samson c03u, and i will be buying it aswell soon, it is a really good mic, it is plug and play the cable you get with it is a usb one.
sounds good but do you know if there is any mic that is better? with a usb cable you mentioned that it was faulting sometimes on your mac and i dont want that and it needs to be a usb mic as i dont want to spend to much on getting a mixer table and all that : / please give some tips
Does this work with USB AND XLR?! Does the sampling rate differ from the USB port and the XLR port? I know the USB only one has crap sampling rates so... Would I be better with built in USB or the xlr through an icicle?

very nice and clear review man.. i appreciate it.. i already have the Yeti, now got me thinkin about the Yeti Pro.. I really dont need the XLR output, but being a sound recording noob, i dont know how big of a difference in SQ when it comes to 48 kHz/16-bit vs 192 kHz/24-bit.. im lookin to record studio like quality and i was told the Blue Yeti non-Pro is good enough.. is it really? despite the XLR , is the additional 192khz/24bit feature really that much of a difference?
What is so great about using a pre amp? Can't things be processed digitally?
Will this be good for the violin? Now I know that condensers aren't the best thing for bowed instruments and ribbons are recommended, but of course I'm not looking at making the best high end recordings through it, but 1) for decent quality reference of practice sessions and 2) for streaming through Skype as my new teacher is going to be on a different continent. My main is concern is that it's lack at the bass end might lead to the violin overloading the microphone too easily and losing a lot of its undertone resonance. And if not this, what solutions would you recommend, considering that this might be as much as I might be able to spend. Any feedback would be much appreciated.

Depends on your amp quality as well, I've seen people do it but it varies.. better for acoustic in my opinion.

Guys, if you're looking for a SUPER High-quality mic, get the MXL .009 it's a condenser microphone so it does record your instruments... Go check it out, it;s a high quality mic and a bit pricey but overall it's one of the best out there

Hey, what stand are you using and where did you get it? I plan to get this mic along with a stand.
You get alot of sound from the back with Cardiod on Blue Yeti's from keyboard and mouse even if you lower the gain to 10 windows 10 on mic.
Don't know if something is wrong with mine since it captures much behind on cardioid but its like dull but it stills alot sound imo.
so if I want to record a drum kit, with this microphone can I do it? without compromising the bass drum?
@yetifoo Some dummy has been using a dislike bot on my last several videos. UA-cam always catches it and fixes it, but it is still annoying. And rude.

I just bought one yesterday and brought it home, hooked it up, seems amazing, but and when I record myself singing into Garageband the input that I'm hearing through the headphones sounds great, but when I play the track back, I can barely hear it through the headphones no matter how hi I've turned up the gain. And of course then I get every background noise. Am new to this, and don't know what I'm doing wrong. Also the sampling rate keeps kicking down to the lowest no matter what I select.
I was thinking, since I have an H2N, (not so impressed with the quality, probably because of my earphones or speakers) would a hypercardioid dynamic videoke mic make the quality better for studio?

XLR is meant to go into a preamp to power the mic and/or mixer/compressor etc. No USB mice can come close to the quality of a XLR setup at this point in time.

Ronnie Massari If you don't know what XLR is good for, you won't need the Pro version with XLR support. Just use the normal Jeti USB one.

Ronnie Massari XLR is for direct analog signals without latency. USB is a packet oriented protocol and can have, because of its nature, latency. Because of USB the signal must also be sampled and coded on the mic side, which results in having the quality depended on quality and price of the the analog digital converterer (ADC) in the mic.
With XLR you can transport the signal into professional equipment. What you get after that, the sample rate etc. depends on your professional equipment and not on the elecontrics in the mic.

I have the yeti pro... And honestly I believe that the yeti pro would work a Lil better... Do to it be both xlr and USB connected... The USB is of course mostly for when your on-the-go, or if you don't have all of the xlr components I still feel that the pro does slightly beat the original blue yeti

Yup, that wasn't there. Also while quite nice microphone it is somewhat flat sounding. I am not into music or anything but it sounds a bit dull, bass and all is nice but no highs, or is it just me?

@TheBrownChiLD 48khz/16 is dvd quality. and 44.1khz/16 is cd quality which is good enough. 192khz/24 bit is a little over board and is kind of over kill.
