    Been doing that since I was a child. Put rice in the pot, fill the pot with water about a half inch to an inch above the rice. Heat on high until it boils, turn down to simmer for a few minutes, then take off the burner and let it sit until fully cooked. No rice cooker. Just rice and water in a pot.

    Such a beautiful presentation by adorable Martha Stewart.We as Srilankans cook rice almost everyday as it our staple food .We make milk rice on every special occasion by boiling the rice with 2nd extract of coconut milk and salt and adding 1st extract of coconut milk and simmer until done .can be eaten with a spicy fish curry.

      Ah that like nasi lemak in Malaysia also use coconut milk and add pandan leaves to give the rice more fragrant.

    I recently have stopped cooking rice bc I haven’t been cooking it correctly, i have never seen the French method but thank you for showing so many different ways. I think it’s very American to talk about the melting pot of different rice techniques from other countries. I love that this production is showcasing the expansive knowledge and experience of Martha, she’s one of our great Artists in America. 💜💜💜

    In Costa Rica we eat rice two or three times a day, but we add onions and red peppers, and water is the last thing to add, not at the beginning. Sometimes we also add carrots, peas, and corn kernels to have a "garden rice". It is delicious to accompany any kind of meat, beans or even in a soup. By the way, we use rice cookers too, but they make rice in just 15 minutes, I was amazed how long was the cooking time in Martha's rice cooker.

    What was described as the "French method" is actually the traditional way to cook rice in the region of India from where my family hails. We just add one more step (and may be this is just my mother): we spoon off the starch that floats to the surface while the rice is cooking.

    Thought I would see a good tip, but I like my way better. I put 2 cups cold water in a pan, add 1 cup rice (Uncle Ben’s Converted), and salt. Bring to a boil uncovered, reduce to simmer, cover, let go for 20 minutes. Comes out perfect every time, not sticky. Sometimes I put a couple teaspoons of dry boullion (leave out the salt).

    Dear Martha, I just love this series. I have to be gluten free since they altered the gene in wheat. I now read the rice gene is being altered. So many of us eat rice now. Do you have any ideas how this will affect us. Thank you.

    • @mygirldarby
      @mygirldarby 3 роки тому

      I wouldn't put any stock in that stuff. Eat organic wheat and organic grains in general and be happy.

    • @justrosy5
      @justrosy5 3 роки тому +2

      You do realize that your body reads all foods the same way, and that there are genetic alterations to all foods in the current world, right? Nothing we eat is in it's original genetic form. Also, no animal or plant is in it's original genetic form either. No human is, either. Goodness. Just eat and be happy. We all die some day anyway, and usually, it's from either accidents or homicide. Or these days, Covid. Anyway, your body doesn't care what plants have what genes. It digests them all the same. The only reason to avoid gluten is if you have been officially, certified medically diagnosed with Celiac disease. Seriously.

    Every country cook rice their own ways ! We Persian like it fluffy and long and with butter and saffron and red berries on the top , we cook it mixed it with cooked lintels a cooked black eye Susan , or add lots fresh dill and Lima beans to it and cooke it all together . And we cook it 2 ways like spaghetti and other way is we cook rice water and butter all together ( this is the easy way for people who don’t know how to cook fancy rice ) we should teach You Martha how to cook a beautiful rice 🤷🏼‍♀️

    So with the french method, do you drain off the excess water? It looks like it is way too much water for the rice amount. I just cook rice the regular way...the directions on the package, which is almost always water, salt, sometimes butter, and bring to a boil. Add rice and cook with the lid on for 15 minutes.
