Honestly, not a lot of emphasis is placed on chants in American sports, it doesn't change the game day experience in anyway. All the emphasis is on the field action, and the tailgate parties before the game outside of the stadium. With so many teams and huge country, chants are just pretty much whatever the local teams come up with for those games, there is no competition for the best chants, because no one goes to the games for chants, and nobody is talking about chants after the games.

The university took the mascot in honor of a Revolutionary War general named Thomas Sumter, whose nickname was "The Fighting Gamecock", named so for his ferocity in battle. And yes, the word "cock" has the same meaning here as over there. The nickname has caused all sorts of embarassment for visiting fans for years. Or excitement for others when they see a crowd of young coeds yelling out "cocks" at the top of their lungs. However, the clip did not do justice to the Gamecock's entrance. It truly is a masterpiece as 2001 builds slowly to a crescendo accompanied by smoke and fire and the screaming of 85,000 inebriated and enthusiastic fans. Alas, too often this is the peak of the game for us, but it never fails to light a Gamecock's blood on fire. Go Cocks!!!

I think part of what makes college sports so much bigger in the US than they would be in the UK is how compact the UK is. There are, what, 20 teams in the Premier League at any given time, and that's with the relegation system so there are something like 80 total teams playing professional soccer? And Great Britain is pretty small relative to the US; many individual states are larger than the isle of Great Britain. Let's take, as an example, a pretty decent-sized city in the southern U.S.: Mobile, Alabama, down in the southern part of the state. If someone in this city wanted to go to a pro football game, the closest options are the New Orleans Saints, all the way over in Louisiana (not a state that borders Alabama), the Atlanta Falcons, in the northern part of the state to Alabama's east (remember, we're starting in the southwest part of the state), the Jacksonville Jaguars, all the way on the east coast of Florida (though not really very far south of Mobile if at all), and possibly the Tennessee Titans up in Nashville, with Tennessee being the state to Alabama's north. Remember, I'm pretty sure that Alabama is itself one of those states larger than Great Britain. However, the University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, is _the_ premiere college football program. Since Tuscaloosa isn't exactly close to Mobile, either, fans who want to stay even more local have a team right in their city, the University of South Alabama Jaguars. They're not from one of the power conferences but they're still in FBS, so figure they're the equivalent of a Championship team (though typically not a terribly good one--this year on the other hand they'd be on the verge of promotion if that was a thing in college sports). In short, only the major metros get the pro teams, but college teams are everywhere--easily as saturated as your English Football League system. ...Wait, there are *how* many teams at the lower levels of the pyramid? Okay, maybe not _quite_ as saturated.
My favorite football team entrances are usually the ones with animals or vehicles brought onto the field for a lap or two. Chief Osceola on his horse Renegade, this beautiful old car, a bison with its handlers, and even one team with a horse-drawn covered wagon! These are unique and highly exciting to watch, because they're so unusual compared to the regular band playing the entrance song, and then the football players enter onto the field. These extra steps make those particular teams very special, in my opinion.

This is gonna be a little long winded but these stadiums are just for the football teams and if they have a track the track and field teams might use it. The facility’s such as locker rooms, indoor practice facility’s, weight rooms, all are superior to Premiere League facility’s. One thing to consider is these university’s don’t rely on one billionaire owner but rather wealthy alumni donors known as boosters who donate tons of money to the programs. I suggest reacting to Oregon football facility’s, Phil Knight the founder of Nike attended Oregon and you can see his influence lol
The wildest chants I’ve experienced, Michigan hockey games at Yost Arena (not too far from Michigan Stadium.) I can’t even share them here, very raunchy(the school has been working on toning it down in fact!) Plus that’s a crowd size you’d appreciate (the old barn only holds 5000 or so.) It’s a great experience! Not sure there are videos of it but, worth looking for.
The " Native American" with the flaming spear represents the Seminole tribe which the players get their name, the Seminoles. The Chief plants the flaming spear to declare the field is Seminole territory. It's not unusual for generations of people to attend the games, former students, parents, grandparents and alumni who meet to attend together. This is a real event, these games. Especially for homecoming week. People return no matter where they live now. Like I said, It's an event that's very close to the hearts of so many people. The players don't get paid but there are scouts at games who will get with them as future NFL members. They have to be very good and show a lot of promise. Some aren't into football as a future, it can just be a school experience. Some go on to other successful careers. I'm always surprised at the ones who turn it down because they have other plans. Our university sports are more like the pro clubs of Europe in terms of traditions and fanbase loyalty. Minus baseball, professional sports in America didn't really start to gain traction until the 1920s and later. On the other hand, sports became popular at the university level around the 1880-90s, when a lot of club football (soccer) teams began to play. So all the weird traditions and chants that goes along with football clubs in Europe are more associated with our university sports. And like the club sports of Europe, the university teams are all more localized, meaning where you may have a team that used to represent a certain area or neighborhood, our university represents our states or general areas. Also where some of your clubs started out by being certain working or religiously affiliate teams, there's a little bit of that in our university support also. As an example, I'm from Indiana and a lot of the farmers in the state root for Purdue over Indiana U. because Purdue is more of an agricultural, technical, and engineering school than IU (which is more about medical, humanities) Then Notre Dame is also in the state and is a Catholic school.

@@Ryan-mx2kr No, it isn't. The Swamp at the University of Florida, the most comparable SEC stadium, also seats 90K. The stadiums in college football are all gigantic by any measure. 90K is bigger than any NFL stadium, and bigger than all but a few stadiums around the world. It's impressive.
I am a long time Oregon Duck fan. I know most of the players on the team, and certainly all of the ones that see any significant time on the field, except perhaps for special teams plays.The stadiums are almost always only used by the college team. There are some exceptions. These huge stadiums are used between 5 and 8 times per year. While a lot of college students go to the games, the far greater percentage are alumni or fans with no other association to the school.
There's 85 players on scholarship in college probably another 25 or so walkons (guys who pay to go to school). About 40 players per team play on a consistent basis. Fans who follow the team would know most of that 40 or so The rest are bodies needed for practice and to provide depth for when players get injured.
Larger college teams usually have 100 or more players on them. College teams usually have larger crowds than pros also. No the players don't get paid but many get free college being on scholarship.

Casual fans only know stars on teams, regular fans know most of that years starters and hardcore fans follow each recruiting class so they know every player. College football recruiting is also very interesting and not similar to most sports. Players aren’t drafted they pick where they go. Also, until recently, players were only paid in a scholarship and luxury facilities. Now they can make money off their celebrity, stars make a solid amount of money in endorsements.

As a college football fan overall, I have been an Ohio State fan for as long as I got into football as a kid! (Name,Image,Likeness) is when the players finally started getting payed, just started recently I believe ‘20-‘21 check into it Yes the chants and the traditions are all different NCAA football games got banned years ago Because the players couldn’t even make money unless they were drafted to the N.F.L. (Obviously not everyone does) they never have gotten paid until N.I.L. Most get paid 6-7 figures. But because they never got paid, college is so much better imo and you can see that play out on the field they’re all college students out their! All wanting to make 8 figures a season for 20 years! Once they get there the competition isn’t as high where as in college you have in most cases 3 some stay 4 or 5 years before the draft with everything on the line! The stadiums are Just for college football, located on/ right next to campus. College Football actually makes up the most stadiums with over 100k capacity. Many of the crowds you saw here were over 100k The players do not get paid. Its debated often, but also keeps the game very true and pure. The players are there to play their hearts out and maybe 1% of players on The Best teams make it to NFL. They do get free College though Many also have easily over 100 year traditions. College has been around for much longer than NFL Football is also physical AF so adrenaline helps a lot, compared to soccer, hence the constant hype A lot of the crowd is college students, but many alumni, and just general fans Every major College team has serious traditions. As a college football fan, I do not know the names of EVERY player on the team I support. (FSU) However I do remember the names of the playmakers and support them onto their NFL careers no matter what team they get drafted to, I want to see them do well. Football is like the #1 earner for these colleges. In fact the profits from the football team pay for the majority of the other sports teams at the college.
You brought up the chants, check out Texas A@M. Those guys not only have the largest stadium in the SEC, only have male yell leaders, have the largest Corps in college, but the also hold Midnight yell practice. Trust me you won't be disappointed
Depending on the program u may know the starters but there can be over 100 kids on a team with walk ons. And A Lot of College stadiums are bigger than pro stadiums and the games better attended. And Michigan is one of the few college stadiums that holds around 107000 people and is the largest stadium in the country.
Also, there are different divisions of colleges. The ones you’re watching our division, one which is the top universities and colleges in the United States. Some players that play for division, one go pro and whatever sport they have a scholarship for. Division two players sometimes go pro, but not as often. Division three is the lowest division in college sports. Division III schools are actually the hardest schools to get into because some of them are private universities or just difficult to get into in general.
I graduated from Ohio State over 20 years ago and I still watch every game. It's a multi billion dollar industry because the fan bases are huge. Once you're in, it's for life.
Nothing is more exciting for an 18-22yo university student than college sport - football, basketball, baseball, track; but for big schools it's football. You shouldn't have copyright claims because these are sung/played at college games but not from a particular artist.

To whether college players, any sport, get paid, the answer used to be a solid no. NCAA, the organization that lords over all college sports, made a rule decades ago that college players were not allowed to get any monetary benefits outside of tuition. This changed over the last year or so. Now college athletes are allowed to profit off their name, likeness, and image. This means they can get money from outside groups such as boosters and companies, for advertisements. As of right now, I don't think any school physically hands athletes a "salary", but I could be wrong.
It's the original, 1869-present. The NFL didn't come until 1920. In addition we're a rather large country geographically, 3rd largest in the world. 32 NFL teams isn't enough to go around. NFL teams can also move, except for the Packers, while College teams don't. Many, if not most, have their own stadiums, but there are some that are shared like Miami. The Hurricanes (1926) are much older than the Dolphins (1966), so it started with the Hurricanes sharing their stadum, then the Orange Bowl, with the Dolphins. Now it's the other way around and they both play at Hard Rock Stadium.
NFL rosters have 53 players exactly. College rosters vary around 125 players, (with only 75 who travel to away games) This is because they lose 18 - 30 players each yr to graduation, you have injuries, development of younger players and the use of scoute teams . Offensive & Defensive scout teams are basically quality practice dummies . All week in practice they simulate the schemes/tactics/ plays the next opponent will employ . This gives the starting Offensive & Defensive players more time to focus on what they need to accomplish.

Depending on which video you use, the volume for US team's "chants" seems lowered when I watched other UA-camrs. I've never been to a UK's game and I know that they're loud, but have your chants caused the Richter scale to go off indicating an earthquake, like that of some stadiums have in the US? I'm a Michigan (Go Blue) fan and our stadium is the 3rd largest in seating compacity in the world. There's nothing like a Saturday afternoon tailgating (cooking out, drinking and socializing at one's vehicle) prior to and/or during the game.
You won't know every player every year, but more of just the best ones who have a prospect of going to the NFL. I talk about games/dates and years of our team or individual stars throughout our history more than being able to list every player that has played at my favorite college. Stadiums are usually built just for the individual college. There are about 230 large colleges that have their own individual stadium. Most public and private colleges do, football is a great driver of funding for the university with ticket sales and merch sales, etc. At some schools, the football program is the only net positive thing about the entire school.

These stadiums are on University campuses, and are generally used only for football. Many have larger capacities larger than NFL stadiums. Example, University of Nebraska's stadium holds more people than the city's (Lincoln, Nebraska) actual population. As technically being amateurs, our college football players didn't "wink, wink" use to get paid, other than a meager college athlete stipend. The college game served as proving grounds for the money they'd make in the NFL. Now they have Name, Image, Likeness deals, but still aren't allowed to hire agents or managers to help with financial advice, the structuring of such contracts, etc.

In college, it’s actually illegal for players to get paid. In any college sport paying the athletes would pretty much be like bribery, because athletes go to colleges on NCAA scholarships. The NCAA is very strict about their rules and no paying their players.
I would say a general american football fan could name all the players on their local nfl team, most players in every other team in the nfl, and nearly all of the star players in college football.... but there are fans who definitely don't fit that mold.
As someone's who's lived on both sides of the pond, I can say that college football in the States is the only thing that really can compare to Premier League football in terms of the fandom, chants, and traditions. Pro sports leagues such as the NFL are way too commercialised over the in the US and seating is a free for all at NFL games. With college/university football, you have designated away seating sections, amazing atmosphere/pageantry, traditions that are over 100 years old, and very passionate fans who are also graduates of their respective universities. @@BritishGuy22 Definitely do try to go to one. However, keep in mind not all college teams/traditions/atmospheres are the same. Some are notably better than others. Most of the universities you saw in your reaction video are some of the better atmospheres in college football. I def. do think you should still check out an NBA, MLB, or NFL game just because those are unique in their own way.
It's not different in England. Same slang term here. However, a gamecock is a real thing. It's a rooster that has been bred specifically for fighting. Not sure how common cockfighting is anymore.
We have a Varsity game each year against your historical rivals that MIGHT attract a couple of thousand of people. Apart from that there might be 100-200 at a Game. Playing sport at university is not the pathway to becoming professional though in the UK

I think part of what makes college sports so much bigger in the US than they would be in the UK is how compact the UK is. There are, what, 20 teams in the Premier League at any given time, and that's with the relegation system so there are something like 80 total teams playing professional soccer? And Great Britain is pretty small relative to the US; many individual states are larger than the isle of Great Britain.
Let's take, as an example, a pretty decent-sized city in the southern U.S.: Mobile, Alabama, down in the southern part of the state. If someone in this city wanted to go to a pro football game, the closest options are the New Orleans Saints, all the way over in Louisiana (not a state that borders Alabama), the Atlanta Falcons, in the northern part of the state to Alabama's east (remember, we're starting in the southwest part of the state), the Jacksonville Jaguars, all the way on the east coast of Florida (though not really very far south of Mobile if at all), and possibly the Tennessee Titans up in Nashville, with Tennessee being the state to Alabama's north. Remember, I'm pretty sure that Alabama is itself one of those states larger than Great Britain.
However, the University of Alabama, located in Tuscaloosa, is _the_ premiere college football program. Since Tuscaloosa isn't exactly close to Mobile, either, fans who want to stay even more local have a team right in their city, the University of South Alabama Jaguars. They're not from one of the power conferences but they're still in FBS, so figure they're the equivalent of a Championship team (though typically not a terribly good one--this year on the other hand they'd be on the verge of promotion if that was a thing in college sports). In short, only the major metros get the pro teams, but college teams are everywhere--easily as saturated as your English Football League system. ...Wait, there are *how* many teams at the lower levels of the pyramid? Okay, maybe not _quite_ as saturated.

My favorite football team entrances are usually the ones with animals or vehicles brought onto the field for a lap or two. Chief Osceola on his horse Renegade, this beautiful old car, a bison with its handlers, and even one team with a horse-drawn covered wagon! These are unique and highly exciting to watch, because they're so unusual compared to the regular band playing the entrance song, and then the football players enter onto the field. These extra steps make those particular teams very special, in my opinion.

This is gonna be a little long winded but these stadiums are just for the football teams and if they have a track the track and field teams might use it. The facility’s such as locker rooms, indoor practice facility’s, weight rooms, all are superior to Premiere League facility’s.
One thing to consider is these university’s don’t rely on one billionaire owner but rather wealthy alumni donors known as boosters who donate tons of money to the programs. The wildest chants I’ve experienced, Michigan hockey games at Yost Arena (not too far from Michigan Stadium.) I can’t even share them here, very raunchy(the school has been working on toning it down in fact!) Plus that’s a crowd size you’d appreciate (the old barn only holds 5000 or so.) It’s a great experience! Not sure there are videos of it but, worth looking for.

The " Native American" with the flaming spear represents the Seminole tribe which the players get their name, the Seminoles. The Chief plants the flaming spear to declare the field is Seminole territory. It's not unusual for generations of people to attend the games, former students, parents, grandparents and alumni who meet to attend together. This is a real event, these games. Especially for homecoming week. People return no matter where they live now. Like I said, It's an event that's very close to the hearts of so many people.
The players don't get paid but there are scouts at games who will get with them as future NFL members. They have to be very good and show a lot of promise. Some aren't into football as a future, it can just be a school experience. Some go on to other successful careers. I'm always surprised at the ones who turn it down because they have other plans.

Our university sports are more like the pro clubs of Europe in terms of traditions and fanbase loyalty. Minus baseball, professional sports in America didn't really start to gain traction until the 1920s and later. On the other hand, sports became popular at the university level around the 1880-90s, when a lot of club football (soccer) teams began to play. So all the weird traditions and chants that goes along with football clubs in Europe are more associated with our university sports. And like the club sports of Europe, the university teams are all more localized, meaning where you may have a team that used to represent a certain area or neighborhood, our university represents our states or general areas. Also where some of your clubs started out by being certain working or religiously affiliate teams, there's a little bit of that in our university support also. As an example, I'm from Indiana and a lot of the farmers in the state root for Purdue over Indiana U. because Purdue is more of an agricultural, technical, and engineering school than IU (which is more about medical, humanities) Then Notre Dame is also in the state and is a Catholic school.

I am a long time Oregon Duck fan. I know most of the players on the team, and certainly all of the ones that see any significant time on the field, except perhaps for special teams plays.The stadiums are almost always only used by the college team. There are some exceptions. These huge stadiums are used between 5 and 8 times per year. While a lot of college students go to the games, the far greater percentage are alumni or fans with no other association to the school.
There's 85 players on scholarship in college probably another 25 or so walkons (guys who pay to go to school). About 40 players per team play on a consistent basis. Fans who follow the team would know most of that 40 or so
The rest are bodies needed for practice and to provide depth for when players get injured.

Casual fans only know stars on teams, regular fans know most of that years starters and hardcore fans follow each recruiting class so they know every player. College football recruiting is also very interesting and not similar to most sports. Players aren’t drafted they pick where they go. Also, until recently, players were only paid in a scholarship and luxury facilities. Now they can make money off their celebrity, stars make a solid amount of money in endorsements.

NCAA football games got banned years ago Because the players couldn’t even make money unless they were drafted to the N.F.L. (Obviously not everyone does) they never have gotten paid until N.I.L. Most get paid 6-7 figures. But because they never got paid, college is so much better imo and you can see that play out on the field they’re all college students out their! All wanting to make 8 figures a season for 20 years! Once they get there the competition isn’t as high where as in college you have in most cases 3 some stay 4 or 5 years before the draft with everything on the line!
Last one lol the reason so many players is the depth chart 3 to 4 strings usually per position for obvious reasons!

As a college football fan, I do not know the names of EVERY player on the team I support. (FSU) However I do remember the names of the playmakers and support them onto their NFL careers no matter what team they get drafted to, I want to see them do well. Depending on the program u may know the starters but there can be over 100 kids on a team with walk ons. And A Lot of College stadiums are bigger than pro stadiums and the games better attended.
And Michigan is one of the few college stadiums that holds around 107000 people and is the largest stadium in the country.
Also, there are different divisions of colleges. The ones you’re watching our division, one which is the top universities and colleges in the United States. Some players that play for division, one go pro and whatever sport they have a scholarship for. Division two players sometimes go pro, but not as often. Division three is the lowest division in college sports. Division III schools are actually the hardest schools to get into because some of them are private universities or just difficult to get into in general.
I graduated from Ohio State over 20 years ago and I still watch every game. It's a multi billion dollar industry because the fan bases are huge. Once you're in, it's for life.
Nothing is more exciting for an 18-22yo university student than college sport - football, basketball, baseball, track; but for big schools it's football. You shouldn't have copyright claims because these are sung/played at college games but not from a particular artist.

To whether college players, any sport, get paid, the answer used to be a solid no. NCAA, the organization that lords over all college sports, made a rule decades ago that college players were not allowed to get any monetary benefits outside of tuition. This changed over the last year or so. Now college athletes are allowed to profit off their name, likeness, and image. This means they can get money from outside groups such as boosters and companies, for advertisements. As of right now, I don't think any school physically hands athletes a "salary", but I could be wrong.

It's the original, 1869-present. The NFL didn't come until 1920. In addition we're a rather large country geographically, 3rd largest in the world. 32 NFL teams isn't enough to go around. NFL teams can also move, except for the Packers, while College teams don't.
Many, if not most, have their own stadiums, but there are some that are shared like Miami. The Hurricanes (1926) are much older than the Dolphins (1966), so it started with the Hurricanes sharing their stadum, then the Orange Bowl, with the Dolphins. Now it's the other way around and they both play at Hard Rock Stadium.

College rosters vary around 125 players, (with only 75 who travel to away games) This is because they lose 18 - 30 players each yr to graduation, you have injuries, development of younger players and the use of scoute teams .
Offensive & Defensive scout teams are basically quality practice dummies . All week in practice they simulate the schemes/tactics/ plays the next opponent will employ . This gives the starting Offensive & Defensive players more time to focus on what they need to accomplish.

Depending on which video you use, the volume for US team's "chants" seems lowered when I watched other UA-camrs. I've never been to a UK's game and I know that they're loud, but have your chants caused the Richter scale to go off indicating an earthquake, like that of some stadiums have in the US?
I'm a Michigan (Go Blue) fan and our stadium is the 3rd largest in seating compacity in the world. There's nothing like a Saturday afternoon tailgating (cooking out, drinking and socializing at one's vehicle) prior to and/or during the game.
Home field is about noise when visiting teams have the ball..Teams can't hear each other can cause penalties etc
You won't know every player every year, but more of just the best ones who have a prospect of going to the NFL. I talk about games/dates and years of our team or individual stars throughout our history more than being able to list every player that has played at my favorite college.
Stadiums are usually built just for the individual college. There are about 230 large colleges that have their own individual stadium. Most public and private colleges do, football is a great driver of funding for the university with ticket sales and merch sales, etc. At some schools, the football program is the only net positive thing about the entire school.

College players aren’t paid. They can get NIL (name image likeness) deals for example advertise for a company on a commercial. The stars of the game are celebrities, but there are also a lot of backup players and they aren’t celebrities.

These stadiums are on University campuses, and are generally used only for football. Many have larger capacities larger than NFL stadiums. Example, University of Nebraska's stadium holds more people than the city's (Lincoln, Nebraska) actual population. As technically being amateurs, our college football players didn't "wink, wink" use to get paid, other than a meager college athlete stipend. The college game served as proving grounds for the money they'd make in the NFL. Now they have Name, Image, Likeness deals, but still aren't allowed to hire agents or managers to help with financial advice, the structuring of such contracts, etc.

To answer your question, there are just a handful of stadiums that host both college and NFL teams: Miami, Tampa Bay, Pittsburgh, and Philadelphia. Some other NFL stadiums host neutral site and bowl games.

In college, it’s actually illegal for players to get paid. In any college sport paying the athletes would pretty much be like bribery, because athletes go to colleges on NCAA scholarships. The NCAA is very strict about their rules and no paying their players.

As someone's who's lived on both sides of the pond, I can say that college football in the States is the only thing that really can compare to Premier League football in terms of the fandom, chants, and traditions. Pro sports leagues such as the NFL are way too commercialised over the in the US and seating is a free for all at NFL games. With college/university football, you have designated away seating sections, amazing atmosphere/pageantry, traditions that are over 100 years old, and very passionate fans who are also graduates of their respective universities. @@BritishGuy22 Definitely do try to go to one. However, keep in mind not all college teams/traditions/atmospheres are the same. Some are notably better than others. Most of the universities you saw in your reaction video are some of the better atmospheres in college football. I def. do think you should still check out an NBA, MLB, or NFL game just because those are unique in their own way.

It's not different in England. Same slang term here. However, a gamecock is a real thing. It's a rooster that has been bred specifically for fighting. Not sure how common cockfighting is anymore.
