Mascots are a big thing in American sports. Florida State University's mascot is the Seminole native American tribe located in Florida. The university is very supportive of the tribe and helps keep it's culture and traditions alive.
o make no mistake... other college sports besides football do not have this level of fandom. if a university has an athletics department, all other sports are subsidized by the money generated from its football team in almost every school in America.
Not to sound political, but the liberals were complaining that having a Native American as a mascot was offensive so they changed it to something else. But the Native Americans said for years that they were never offended and want the team to change their mascot back
That was for the NFL's Washington Redskins, and yes, they actually properly read the room, something extremely rare for goodell and his goons, and there are negotiations to change it back now that Trump won the election. Thankfully, those negotiations are reportedly going well. FSU has never changed its name. It was threatened with a mascot ban in 2004, but ncaa backed down immediately when Seminole Tribe of Florida threatened to file a massive lawsuit.
