CIG should just take the ring they made, and make it absolutely massive - and bristling with guns - and keep the gates in the core systems. There is zero reason to contact ATC if its "all natural"
Their explanation yesterday made sense to me.
So no more gates.
I feel it was more of a "not ANOTHER thing we need to design with insane detail and destructability!"
Bristling with guns I can always get behind.
ATC is really just there to organise what ships go when so there isn’t a massive crash, plus it works for the customs tca thing they’re going to add one day - they should deffo keep them
Right there with you: I was loving the idea that only certain sized ships could enter into some systems. It would add utility to non-large/capital ships if, say, only medium or smaller could fit through into a system with valuable scientific data or mineable resources.
Try defending your base or treasure trove when you can only do it with small ships
i don’t mind the change i feel like it’d be difficult to communicate what size a jump point is visually once ingame
I don't mind them showing things early. It shows us at the time, this is the thought process behind what they're trying to do and even if 5 or 10 years later, they decide to do things differently, it still shows how they evolved over time.
This shows one of the challenges of Star Citizen's Open Development: other games would do much of this behind closed doors and we would see this latest part, as the first time.
But if the lore says these are naturally occurring phenomena that, presumably, have been around since at least the formation of our solar system, with these enormous gas clouds surrounding a pulsating, glowing anomaly at its center, then the Sol jump point surely would've been fairly hard to miss for some of humanities earliest telescopes powerful enough to see it, wouldn't it? Galileo himself in the 17th century might've spotted a weird, tiny pulsating smudge in the sky with his telescope and wondered, "Che diavolo è quello???"
next few months - Oct before Citcon (maybe) There are new Halloween paint schemes in the 4.0 for the Zeus, and 1 other unreleased ship.
They could easily use a structure on established wormholes (however long they last) to keep them anchored/stabilized. More depth if you could destabilize them and isolate systems.
The thing is, they want to allow you to exit the jump (including main routes) via botching it and if you succesfully finish the jump process be automatically spit out in the system not originating from the jump point, but in the vicinity.
Having a gate suggests that is in- and egress point, which defeats the intention.
The way they go is better and also an homage to older CR titles.
If I was in CIG, I would make the reveal of Nyx be through a small WH, so some explorer accidentally ends up someplace amazing.
Maybe it's just me, but i think the new one looks better.
No I think the new one looks great too
I think so too, the gates would detract attention from the event horizon itself.
And the sneak peek on what their graphical goal is, with the background resembling your originating system and target endpoint they for sure are gonna make something visually very great.
Not sure about the on rails gameplay though.
But they can change rules on the transient JPs i guess.
Entrance to pyro looks absolutly SICK!!
The underlying issue is that since we have seen so much over the years, we can't be sure about anything regarding the future. If this takes another 5 years, a decade, who knows how this game will turn out to be by then. It is all noce and fun now - but will it be that way next year? ... none can tell.
To be honest it looks so much better now without the gate ring. It almost looks like the Deep Space Nine Wormhole now.
well cool - hope to see more improvements - The lore has it with the Aurora found the first wormhole - so - commonsense tells me the may focus on that size of wormholes and isn't the Aurora starter pact their main seller still ?
It makes me wonder, Tomato 🍅, that is possible that they MAY limit facilities at certain locations to certain ship sizes. So instead of the jump points creating limitations, it will be the places we go?
Honestly it looks like the intestinal journey of the french fries i just ate.
How did you miss the Doctor Who reference :( That "New Intro" was a well done clone of the Doctor Who intro
My bet for the retcon on rings is due to aliens. Why would aliens, like the vandul, need to utilize our rings to invade human systems, if it’s a natural thing in space then they can just send their fleets in to invade. With that said the rings were hella cool, hope we can still see them at certain locations in the verse
Yet for a naturally occuring wormhole, for you to make a jump you need ATC to approve it.......
It’s frame rate. 5 or 6 ships waiting to jump. Frame rate drops so they had to take out the big hatch.
While it doesn't matter either way to me they could easily keep the gates even if the jump points are natural things. The rings could be there to keep the permanent jump points permanent, giving them some sort of anchor point. Or the gate reduces the energy needed to open the jump point taking some of the load of the transiting ship and an easy reason for a fee to use the jump point (aka a small money sink). There are all sorts of reasonable explanations for the existence of the gates at permanent jump points and the lack of gates at transient jump points.
So disappointed that they have removed the circular structure around the jump point
The only reason they cut the rings is because they are rushing and cutting corners. It's also why you still call ATC to jump. Lol
They already explained this yesterday.
Also the jump points in the Wing Commander movies (Mark Hamill) did not have rings.
I was never a fan of the Jump rings I must prefer the natural phenomenon design and if I’m not mistaken, it was always their plan
They had to remove different sized stable jump points because there are only 2 systems and this jump point is suppose to be a medium and only 5 planned for the 1.0 launch which would kill any large ship gameplay, it may change 15 years from now if they ever get 50+ systems in but until then this is kinda needed.
So its a natural phenomenon the jump point? Then why in the actual fuck would we need to call ATC to jump?
They explained that in spectrum: Control, fairness and scrutiny vs. not law abiding citizens.
You want to organize traffic use, simple as that and you pass through a controlled space within the control of jurisdiction in the region/system.
They also said, this does not apply to transient jump points logically, as there is no permanent authority overwatching it via an installation.
This feels like the Reclaimer claw all over again.
I don't mind them removing the rings but it makes no sense that you need to call ATC if it is a natural phenomena. Made more sense if the rings where there and you got green lit to jump through them via the ATC call. I know it is a game design thing where they just recycle the code they already have to get it out faster but it sucks imo. Make it make sense.
See their spectrum post for calrification on why ATC is a thing. It is a logical necessity.
You’re just behind and need to catch up with everyone else.
I just don't get the narrative explanation. It's naturally occurring, but the first discovered occurrence was created from a leaky quantum drive?
What's the point of having a jump drive if it's naturally occurring? Seems like they can't really commit to an explanation.
Jump points exist, still requires a pulse to open them. Ez as that.
The JD does so reliably, the lore event was an accident leading to the jump drive development.
